Uh oh. Blocked punt. If Pittsburgh State scores here it would take a 4th quarter miracle for WSU to pull off the comeback. -

It's good to see that PW does not keep his playsheet stuffed down the front of his pleated khaki's. -

We will get to see how he handles a little adversity +1. BIG swing. We'll see how his players react. -

TD WSU. Again, I love PW's sideline demeanor. He knows there's a ton of game left & his demeanor is essentially as cool & calm after the TD as it was after each of the two INT's. *ESPN commentator, Dan Hawkins, just noted PW's demeanor: "Just love his demeanor. Very calm, very poised. Classy guy. Very much in control. Knows what the Warriors are all about and obviously has this group marching in-step with his philosophy." (No, my recall isn't that quick. I rewound my dvr.) -

Well, from what I hear that's a good 5-minutes longer than Zipmeister lasts. -

Two badly underthrown interceptions from WSU's QB. I like PW's sideline demeanor. He doesn't berate his players. Very calm & in control. Unflappable. You can tell he's a teacher of the game. Very much a demeanor like Jim Tressel or Mike krzyzewski. -
I don't know how to do the surfthechannel thing, but I do know there are a few guys on here that, at the very least, can burn you a dvd copy of the show(s). I'm sure they'll reply.

Mike Waddell taking it to his in-state big brother
Blue & Gold replied to InTheZone's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Nice! Is Waddell the one responsible for that sweet opening video they used to play before basketball games - the one w/ Zippy drop kicking the Toledo Rocket, the Can't State Golden Flash, the OU Bobcat & Columbus' own Brutus Buckeye? -
Now 10-3. Good game!

Most immobile mobile QB I have ever watched. Please tell me what makes a QB "mobile." I think Vick, Cunningham, Tebow, Edelman...even somebody like Ben. Moving to make positive things happen. I never really seen anything positive happen. Mobile relative to Nicely, I suppose. Of course my grandma is mobile relative to Nicely.

If anyone cares, Mount Union is playing for the D-III National Championship tonight at 7:00 on ESPN2. Go Purple Raiders! And, btw, PW's WSU Warriors play for the D-II National Championship tomorrow morning at 11:00. Also on ESPN2 IIRC.

Interesting post-Pine-Bluff comment from KD (courtesy of Rasor's blog): "I’m really disappointed we didn’t get any pop out of McClanahan and Diggs [off the bench]. Right now, Brett’s dead-faced, for whatever reason. Q isn’t going to play against anyone who he doesn’t think is a great team. That disappointed me, but it was good to see Chauncey put the ball in the basket.” I don't think we have anything to worry about w/ Q. But the part of the quote which interests me is concerning Brett. He's looked awful & KD puts it as Brett is "dead-faced." I don't even know what that means. All I know is that both he, and Nic, look painfully less athletic than anyone else who gets PT & seem to be weighing the whole team down.

I think both Nicely & Moore would look better in a PW spread than in the iCoach pro-set. Especially Moore, I suppose, with his mobility.

No! PW all the way. I want an offensive-minded HC. Secondly, PW is used to working with less/smaller budget. LF is used to a bloated budget & a gluttony of talent @ Columbus State. He'd be shell shocked here. Contrarily, PW would be in heaven.

Well said. Akron isn't going to be a place for a guy who was head coach at OSU for a season to come, regardless of the circumstances. Typically, the MAC/Akron is a good fit for someone who is a long time assistant/short time coordinator to break in. Or, a guy like Winters or Kelly who did their time in lower divisions. Nobody wants to hear it, but the Akron job would have been a step down for Fick. Last season was his chance to audition for a CUSA job. Given the cards he was dealt, he did a pretty good job. At the rate Pitt is going, they might just be CUSA quality if they don't watch out. Pitt is a step up for Fick and a good opportunity. If he proves himself, he could always go back to OSU in a few years when UM has had enough. Since we entered D1, the HC position at Akron has been a springboard to a lower division or out of coaching altogether. Springboard? More like a diving board.

Paul Winters Doesn't Want to Win at Akron
Blue & Gold replied to NanNewWin's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm getting excited and getting my hopes up for PW. He's an offensive mastermind. He's a classy guy (man, did "Classy" Freddie Blassie ruin that word, or what?). He'll recruit the hell out of NEO. He bleeds blue and gold. He'll make both The University of and the City of Akron proud. [edit] Great post, btw, WNN. -
You know, for all the depth we have, it's a bit ironic that we only have one true C and one true PG. We're an entirely different team when either Zeke or AA are on the bench.

+1. Though I tell myself there is probably an X's & O's reason that's above my head as to why Zeke runs out there, it, none-the-less infuriates me to see him put into a position where he is continuously exploited by the quick little guards up top. Just STAY NEAR THE PAINT, Zeke! To my simplistic way of thinking, running Zeke out beyond the 3-point line just isn't the best way to use his God-given strengths. In fact, it really puts him at a distinct disadvantage. For crying out lous, KEEP HIM DOWN LOW, KD! However, since this is so painfully obvious to me (a basketball 101 guy) I figure there just has to be a higher basketball I.Q. reason for it. If i may I would like to comment on the hi low defense Zeke Marshall faces. First I must admit that I agree that Zeke should stay in the post but this is easier said than done. Different teams and the type of offenses they run forces Zeke out and has nothing to do with KD. On pick and rolls you want to force the ball around the outside parameter as oppose to letting the guard to penetrate the defense. On a pick which is designed by opponents to bring a strong defender out (Zeke) of the block allows the guard to penetrate the paint. Problem is in ideal situations you want the big man to switch to stay in the paint but there are two problems with that: # 1 being usually a guard who is very quick and explosive and come off the pick can do major damage to the defense if he is allowed to turn the corner and penetrate the defense. And if Zeke doesn't step up then who else will be in that place at that particular time to do so? Secondly, usually the guy setting the pick is the big man played by Zeke that can fake the pick up top and break for the basket looking for a backdoor pass or alley. If it is not guarded on the side of caution the back door is opened all night long.. So now to my point; in an ideal world Zeke can stay in the paint mainly in a zoned defense but is very unlikely due to the fact the defense and offense changes on both ends almost every time down the floor. So Zeke has no other choice but to play defense as it is handled to him. Fortunately for us APB had a smaller lineup and Zeke could play more conservatively... Awesome post! Thanks for the knowledge!

This guy looks to pass the eyeball test (from his one picture here). If we don't bring in some serious JUCO DT's we're going to get absolutely obliterated straight up the middle next year. The only 2 remaining DT's on our roster are both freshmen!!! Frosh DT Dajour Morris looked good. IMHO he passes the eyeball test. James Price, however, IMHO, didn't pass the eyeball test. He just looked kinda overweight. Who knows, he might hit the weightroom hard this offseason & lose some baby fat. But none-the-less, we need some serious muscle front & center.

My grandfather was a high school football HC & used to say, "You can't plow the field without the horses."
