  1. GVH? Huh? (At the clear risk of a Homer Simpson "Doah!") Who's that?
  2. This seems fair. "Considering the budget," (which I'm sure wasn't much) I'll give it a B-. With, of course, room for improvement. It was obviously not shot in HD, and, IMHO, nowadays, if you don't go HD it's going to look a little amateur-ish. It was pertinent, in that they talked about the VCU game this Thursday and also shared info on AA's very recent knee surgery.
  3. The displeasure w/ TW on ZNO illustrates the power of football. Every other sport pales in comparison. Men's soccer (even with a National Championship) pales in comparison. And yes, even men's basketball. TW utterly destroyed the unprecedented, $65-million, once-in-a-lifetime potential opportunity for momentum the opening of InfoCision Stadium could have given not only Akron football, but the entire university. And now it looks like TW backed into the T-Bow hire. We'll find out more details on Wednesday. I think the uncertainty around TW's decision-making acumen is warranted. However, also illustrating the power of football, I think that if details emerge that TW was, in fact, proactive and instrumental in bringing T-Bow to UA, considering the advancements of other athletic programs under TW's watch, TW might go down as one of the best AD's we've ever had. Ah, the unfathomable power of football.
  4. @ Zips13, Zipmeister was refering to your above post, not to your original thoughts. Just referencing your little typo, "Keener'92 If you think this is way off base, please elaborate..."
  5. Yes, merry Christmas! And a very merry Christmas to you, Mr. Bowden!
  6. Great piece of news to have heading in to VCU. BEST piece of news we could have heading in to VCU Bound to happen eventually. Harney back & Abreu progressing. Were those questions or comments?
  7. And yet another. Ohio.com [Edit]: Actually 2 more, but only one was fatal.
  8. This is true. Listed in another thread were Akron's 3 outstanding coaches in Porter, KD & T-Bow. I'd add Rembielak to that list. What an outstanding lineup of head coaches the Zips have: Caleb Porter - Men's Soccer Keith Dambrot - Men's Basketball Rick Remielak - Baseball Terry Bowden - Football
  9. ABJ article on Ben. Courtesy of Michael Beaven, of course.
  10. Not really sure you can accuse Ohio of playing a cupcake schedule., their current SOS is 49 with an RPI of 8. 6 of 14 OOC games are against teams with an RPI currently less than 100. OU is 4-1 so far against these teams with Robert Morris(82) left to play. Lone loss was at Lville(5) by 5, wins were home against Lamar(35) and on the road at Oakland(74), Marshall(44) and Northern Iowa(7). With that being said, the MAC is going to be a grind like it always is. Things like records and RPIs and SOSs don't mean much when you have two teams that are so familiar with each other and have a personal history. Its going to be a grind and its going to be fun. Just got word today that ESPNU is picking up the Zips v Cats game on 1/14, looking forward to another battle. Thanks for the post. Always welcome in my book. It keeps the forum interesting. +1. Nice post, OU Dude! You guys absolutely should have beaten Louisville. That one was hugely disappointing.
  11. Okay, I'm glad to read this. Over the years I've just been so turned off by the work of George Thomas that I'm really biased against the guy. Now that he's the beat writer I'm trying to recalibrate, give him a second chance and not immediately & .
  12. I suppose if you're an upper-crust celebrity sports entertainer, ala TK, you're allowed this sort of behavior. However, if you're simply a beat reporter, for a mid-sized Ohio newspaper, you'd better get on your horse and know your work. This thread infuriates me. The city of Akron, The University of Akron and we deserve so much better than George Thomas. Lord have mercy.
  13. Prior to reading your response I had just called him T-Bow in another post! I think it's a cool nickname even though it sounds just like Tebow. T-Bow, rhymes with wow. I like it. You're right, Keener. It would rhyme with "wow," and not with, "throw," like I was thinking. Yeah, no Tebow rip off here! T-Bow, I like it!

  15. No problem! Marla Ridenour is an excellent writer and I'm always happy when she focuses on Akron. Hopefully with our new rockstar HC she'll be writing about the Zips more often. She mentions how it seems as though TB reached out to UA, and not the other way around. Interesting. Troubling? Does Tom Wistrcill get any credit for this hire? Does he deserve any? She says we'll find out more next Wednesday at Terry's introductory presser. If Wistrcill didn't have T-Bow on his short list of potential candidates, I just don't get it. TB's created a buzz that only Jim Tressel could have equalled. I love Paul Winters, I really do. What a sincerely good coach and class individual PW is. But Terry Bowden created more buzz in one hour than PW would have created in two years @ UA. What a wild, strange & twisting story this coaching search has been.
  16. To set myself up to be pleasantly surprised, as opposed to disappointed, I voted for 2 wins. I'm hoping for 3-5, but I'm expecting 2. I just don't think we yet have enough talent on either the OL or DL to win many games. We'll see if TB is able to scrape together some JUCO linemen to help us out next year. Even though he is Terry Bowden (I still can't believe we actually have a celebrity HC!) it's awfully late in the recruiting season. Other schools have been recruiting their guys for a year now.
  17. Does anyone know if I could find a replay of this anywhere online? I'd love to see Akron get a mention on PTI! It was part of the big finish. They said something like....former Auburn coach Terry Bowden hired by Akron. Is is a good move? In the last 24 games Akron is 2-22, yes it was a good move. this guy can win. Well, cool! Thanks!

  19. I love BW & hope he stays. But he rarely "blew up" a play. Most of his tackles were 3,4 & 5 yards downfield. He's excellent at reading plays. But I really believe a big reason his stats were so gaudy was because the rest of the team was so weak. Someone had to make the tackle. It was usually BW. I think he'll kinda disappear on a team with more talent. IMHO, his best bet (for NFL exposure) would be to remain a Zip.
  20. Here's an interesting quote also. "According to the source, Bowden reached out to Akron." Yes. Very interesting. This was mentioned by ZipRoo & LZip in the "Fire Tom W" thread.
  21. I like this quote by Todd Porter: "Landing Bowden is a coup for the Mid-American Conference school and gives Akron a high-profile football coach second only to Ohio State’s Urban Meyer in the state." Linky After three loooooong years it looks as if we've finally seen our first effect of The Info.
  22. From what I read, Bowden "reached out to Akron." The process of bringing Bowden to Akron may have had very little to do with Wistrcill. If I'm wrong and he was the impetus, I stand corrected. But from what we know about TW from his past, I'm not giving him immediate credit for this--without knowing he was somewhat responsible. Rather than vote either way, I say we let the UA insiders--who SHOULD know the facts--determine Tom's fate when the contract expires next year. I read that as well and thought it seemed a bit odd.. Come on, people! You gentlemen read this where...? Right here, man. Read it yourself...Todd Porter does not report crap: http://www.cantonrep.com/news/x1587718435/...-football-coach Quick summary edit: AKRON —The University of Akron may have found a fit better than a native son to breathe life back into its football program. According to a source with knowledge of contract talks, Akron will hire Terry Bowden to be the Zips next football coach. Bowden, who is reviving his coaching career, may need the Zips as much as the Zips need him. Key administrators from the university met with Bowden Wednesday near Cleveland Hopkins Airport and later offered him the job. Bowden, who has been the head coach at Division II University of North Alabama, flew back Thursday morning to inform his players of the move. Akron’s beleaguered football program has needed infused with enthusiasm. The Zips have won just one game in each of the last two years. Bowden is taking over for Rob Ianello, who went 1-11 in each of the last two seasons. According to the source, Bowden reached out to Akron. His hiring is subject to board of trustee approval. And B&G, I'm not sure I liked your "tone." Chill out, we're on the same side. Sorry, no offense. And thanks for the link!
