  1. Awesome article!!
  2. We already have verbals from 3 running backs. Wonder why we're going after another?
  3. Got this off of Ball State's athletics website: MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State senior guard Randy Davis (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. This is the third time in his career that Davis has been honored by the MAC and the first this season. Davis led the Cardinals to back-to-back road wins last week with victories at Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. His all-around play was a catalyst for the Cardinals as he averaged 9.0 points, 8.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as Ball State improved to 4-1 in MAC play. Davis, the national leader in NCAA Division I in assist/turnover ratio at 3.79, dished out 16 assists in the two games while only committing three turnovers for a 5.33 ratio. He dished out a team-high 10 assists in the Cardinals' 21-point victory at Central Michigan while also scoring seven points and grabbing seven rebounds. He followed that performance up with 11 points and six assists at Northern Illinois. On the year, he leads the team with 106 assists and chipping in 8.5 points per game. While my biggest concern for tonight's game is the Zeke -vs- Jarrod Jones matchup (hoping Big Zeke can neutralize Jones as well as he does Can't's Justin Green) it sounds like Rico's gonna have more than his hands full matching up with Randy Davis.
  4. Green High School Malone College Walsh University
  5. I'm not a UA alumnus. Just a lifelong area resident.
  6. He was 1st-Team D-1 All-Ohio.
  7. I think of Joe Akron as any Summit County resident (or greater Akron area resident - I live in Stark) who is a sports fan, especially a college sports fan, but who has never been interested in the hometown U.
  8. Here is George Thomas' article on the Zips-Can't game. I didn't see it on Ohio.com yesterday, though the article states it was published on the 22nd.
  9. Sweeeeeet! You say, "recruiting weekend." So the men's b-ball game had something to do with it?
  10. No article from the Beacon Journal's George Thomas?
  11. And here's a very good article by the Canton Repository's Todd Porter. Linky. It's good to see the Rep send a reporter to cover the game. He also includes some postgame quotes that Marla did not, so that is nice. There's also a nice, 21-picture photo gallery from the game. So they sent a photographer as well. However, there aren't any real exciting pictures, as they're mostly of Michael Porinni, Josh Egner & Mark Henniger (all Stark County products). But none-the-less, a coverage job really well done by the Repository!
  12. Another excellent article from Marla Ridenhour. She fleshes out much of what has been pointed out here. M. Ridenhour for the ABJ
  13. I watched the game on tv tonight, but I DVR'd it and am watching it again already.
  14. Q's got enough thunder to not care if someone steals some! And I think you're right about Harney starting... but not until next year.
  15. Awesome. I hope all the students had a blast and will come back!
  16. Nice!! Then I don't know what I saw.
  17. Watching on the tube, I also noted that we made our run and pulled away with Big Zeke on the bench. Treadwell is also much, much more of a hard arse than good ol' Zeke, which may be what we really need against a bunch of thugs like Can't.
  18. Where did they put the students tonight?
  19. There's no way there were that many there. They showed clips on tv and the lower bowl was full while the upper bowl was sparsely populated.
  20. If you're watching STO following the Zips game, check out what Loyala has done to their Gentile Arena. They converted it from a 4,500- seat "gym" to what you now see. If UA could do that to the JAR I'd be willing to listen - even though I still don't like the location of the JAR.
  21. It's good to see he was a decent baller. He's probably relatively light on his feet.
  22. What an absolutely huge dude. I just hope he has some of his big brother's athleticism.
  23. The notion that we'd draw thousands for college hockey (we barely draw 3,000 for most basketball games) is just crazy, in my opinion. I've got to agree with that. It is a huge undertaking, maintaining an ice hockey arena. Let's build a world-class basketball arena, where we maintain a true home court advantage. Don't think NBA. Exceedingly few college teams draw like NBA teams. Even Columbus State complained about how quiet Value City Arena is compared to their old basketball arena. As painful as it is to say this, we're never going to draw like Columbus State. Also, to envision a Cavs game isn't realistic either. Even the worst NBA franchises draw much better than almost all college teams. Even Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium seats only 9,314 - though they can cram 10,000 in there for standing room only. We need a 10,000-seat (tops) arena where spectators are right on top of the action. This is Oregon's new basketball arena, the Matthew Knight Arena. It seats 12,541, which is about 2,500-seats larger than we'd build. Also, we couldn't afford half of the bells & whistles this place has. But it's a beautiful basketball arena that we should hope to emulate. If we build a 8-10,000-seat hockey arena for Zips basketball, a crowd of 6,000 would be spread thin, far removed from the court & boy would it be quiet in there. (One reason the Cavs always have something blaring over their speakers.)
  24. For college hockey, something just a little nicer than Can't's antiquated ice arena would be perfect. It'd be nice to have an ice arena on campus for the students and community anyway (broomball for the area youth groups!). Somthing similar to Miami-O's beautiful new Goggin Ice Arena would be great! But even though Miami-O has a national championship caliber hockey team, the Goggin holds less than 4,000. But, whatever. Anything but the JAR.
  25. Actually the article states that the team met with TW concerning the mere possibility of the team moving from club to scholarship rank. From the wording of the blurb, it sounds as though the team approached TW and not the other way around.
