  1. Let's take a look back:In April, here is a 2 page thread titled Patrick Nicely , ....first when we start training camp -- iCoachIn July, here is a 3 page thread titled The QB battleIn July, before a starter is named, I predict we lose to Columbus by double digits no matter who the starter is.In August, JZ reports from practice that neither QB distinguished themselves from one another.Eight pages of debate when LR8 is named starter. The debate continues into SeptemberI get irritated when I read these generalized BS statements how everybody wanted or said this or that. There are some quality posters on this board, you just have to filter through some that are not. You can do this yourself by getting rid of the posters that do not contribute quality information/discussion to ZN"+1. I honestly don't recall anyone predicting great success from LR8. It was just a general hope for better things and a comforting thought that LR8 couldn't possibly be worse than Nicely. However, LR8 just seems to be a tad better than Nicely. Sadly, with these two it seems to be pick your poison. God bless them both, but we just don't seem to have it at the QB position.
  2. +1. If the Zips can't mildly light up the scoreboard against the Chips, then they can't mildly light it up against anyone. Nevertheless, I don't predict much excitement from the O.
  3. Well said. The man's rant is nonsense. The fact it was printed in the Rep is not surprising. There's nothing to write about down there.
  4. I like how Tom Gaffney begins his post-game ABJ article:"The University of Akron football team avoided a defeat last weekend by not playing. On Saturday, the schedule makers would not allow that to happen again. The Zips were forced into action and showed that a bye week could do little to change their fortunes." I do have to admit that I really like & respect the players for still fighting & not giving up. I know, I know, what are they supposed to do, right? But they still look like they're giving it all they've got. Honestly, I'm ashamed to admit as much, but that's a lot more than what I'd be giving at this point.
  5. Downtown Wooster has a lot of nice restaurants. It's really surprising, actually.Give me some names in Woster. Also...if you are in the Hartville area...give some names ther too :-) Thanks in advance. We go to the Hartville Kitchen once a week. They have the best fish dinner...would not have considered them for fish. Trying to get more fish in my diet so we go often. And my wife loves the sweet potato dish. Great place for families.South Market BistroOlde Joal Brewing Co.I live no more than 30 seconds from the Hartville Kitchen. Nice place. Good food, friendly service, and you're right, excellent fish! But Hartville is dry, so there really aren't that many nicer restaurants in town - mostly fast food. Carlo's Trattoria has excellent stromboli.
  6. Wow, what a mature & gracious post from MES.I'm glad you're working with high school kids! (I've more-than-once typed something out, but then deleted it before hitting "Add Reply!" )

  8. That sounds about right. The side-view seats aren't the problem I have with hockey arenas. It's the endzone seating - which is terribly far removed from the action when it comes to viewing basketball.
  9. Another article from today's (10/20/11) ABJ.
  10. Q has one important thing that all the new guys do not. He has proven performance during big games. I want him out on the floor when the game matters most.KD loves Q. He gives Q the ball in isolation & tells everyone to clear out. I don't think I've ever seen that from KD before.
  11. I agree. I'm crossing my fingers for a national-class basketball arena.
  12. Made my day with #1. You had Doug at #1.
  13. Thank you for the highlights!I'm glad to hear about the focus on OL & DL. The trenches is where the game is won. JUCO's, I'm assuming?
  14. +1.But I'd take anything over simply renovating the JAR.
  15. I like the Stroh Center much more than the JAR. But with only one level, IMHO, it still looks kind of like a glorified high school gym.I think that to really impress the high school kids, two levels is a must. One arena that is slightly larger than the Stroh Center, but which has two levels (3 actually, but it's a technicality & difficult to tell in the pictures) is Rhode Island's Ryan Center. Beautiful facility with 7,657 seats. I'd be thrilled if we could simply duplicate it.Ryan Center website
  16. From the article: The University of Akron rifle team battled Ohio State and Columbus State over the weekend. Since when is that two different schools? Well said.
  17. I love UCF Arena. It looks to be exactly what we need @ UA. 10,000 seats looks/seems appropriate. However, it is a basketball arena (which can also host concerts) but not a true multi-purpose arena - which can accomodate hockey/indoor soccer. I prefer basketball arenas as, IMHO, half of the seats for basketball in a multi-purpose arena aren't very good. They're simply too far from the court.Again, I love UCF Arena. I think it's perfect. Pitt's Peterson Events Center is another great arena, but probably a bit too large for UA, as it seats (IIRC) 12,500.
  18. If this is true, how the heck could we still be 2 TD dogs? How awful are we?
  19. Actually, the Canton Civic Center is probably more of a dump than the JAR (and that's saying something), but at least their seats are chair-backed.
  20. Speaking of which, UA should purchase the former Inventure Place building.
  21. who won??Who'd they play?
  22. Akronites drive to rat-bastard-Cleveland. Clevelanders can drive to Akron.Besides, we've absolutely got to hold our own. When Cleveland built Gund Arena w/ the agreement that the Richfield Colesium would shut down as not to compete - it was officially on. "Cleveland+" is an ABSOLUTE sham and mockery. Akron+ needs a development like this.
  23. +1. Keep it classy, Akron.
  24. +1. He's huge. I wish he were lining up @ LB for the football team.
  25. I haven't read through this thread, so please forgive me if I'm just reiterating what has already been posted. However, this topic comes up occassionally & I usually post - more-or-less - the following: I'm of the belief that D-1A school administrators essentially consider athletics a large part of their advertising campaigns. Accountants don't combine the two, but that's how I'm sure school administrators feel about the athletic programs. Schools - outside of the Ivy League, I suppose - almost always receive more "free" publicity over athletic, rather than academic, accomplishments.
