Ugh. Quite a few of the players I was expeciting to make immediate impacts this year (this game, ideally) didn't get starting nods - (Chisholm, Griggs, A.J. Price, Suel, Tyler Williams). Hmm. Oh, well. We'll see. Go Zips! [edit]: Quite a few from last year's recruiting class on the 2-deep.

Amen. TP never took UA athletics seriously and told ABJ readers that neither should they. This happened for years on end. UA is still fighting this negative perception in the community.

They might be more difficult to read, but they look SWEEEEEEEET!!!

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
Blue & Gold replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Right here is one (THE?) reason that when I read the threads about moving the the Big East, I generally have the "careful what you wish for," thought. I'd rather stay in the MAC and dominate this conference every year. We'd have consistent, perhaps annual, Top 25 rankings, even if no real chance at winning the national championship. But that's fine w/ me. My grand vision for Akron football is lower-eschelon Top 25. And we'd be packing the Info & everyone would know who/where Akron is (even though I guess LBJ's already accomplished this one). Become the Boise State of the MAC. Boise State translated their success into moving to a better conference. Akron needs to get to C-USA if your "grand vision" is to happen. I don't have anything against C-USA, except for greater travel time/expense. But we don't need C-USA for lower-tier Top 25 rankings. We just need to win out in the MAC. -

Very well written and informative. I hope they keep these coming all season.

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?

Actually, the vast majority of BCS schools don't really "compete" w/ the couple handfuls of annual National Championship contenders, you know, the same schools that always start the season ranked in the Top 15 in the preseason polls. It's not just non-BCS schools that have an uphill battle, it's 90% of all D-1 schools in general, most BCS schools included. -
Here's an amazing stat from GoZips.com, "The Zips have lost just once during the regular run of play in their last 51 matches." So that means that, besides losing to Virginia on penalty kicks during the National Championship game two years ago, the only regulation loss was to CSU over the last 51 games? Wow, that is just incredible! Linky

4-0 @ the half! Keep pumpin' 'em, Zips! It's a Cleveland beatdown! The announcer is doing a very nice job. The camera work is just okay. I thoroughly enjoy the wide-angle view from the pressbox. However, the field-level zoom view is infuriating. The angle gives no view of what's happening on the field and actually caused us to miss Mattocks' first goal. Just leave it on wide-angle, fellas!

No depth chart as of yet. I do know that Dylan has been moved to WR.

I still thinks it's an abomination that WZIP doesn't broadcast @ least the football & men's b-ball games. Probably should broadcast men's soccer as well, since we are the #1 program in the entire nation.

Of the above 3 mentioned schools, Michigan is the only one we're not rivals with. Remember, anytime you see a Columbus State shirt around the Akron area, with a healthier Akron, that would/could/should be a Zips t-shirt. Most from the Akron area identify themselves more with either Cleveland or Columbus. This is a reality which is "off-the-charts" unhealthy & detrimental for an area's psyche & self-image. It's an uphill battle, but we've gotta make people from the Akron area proud to be from the Akron area. OSU would squash us like a cockroach if they could. So would Cleveland. Akronites unite! Fight the power.

Oooooh! Would there be a stripe on that helmet? Can't tell from the rendering. (I prefer helmets without stripes.)

Does anyone know whether the live streams include play-by-play? Perhaps synched w/ Frenchi on 1350? Perhaps no audio? I don't care either way, I'm just happy to be able to watch!

Your asking for it. You don't remember all the uniform threads? Seems like most people on this board would rather go back to the old action A uniforms. To me those are gawdawful. I agree with you, I dig the Boise stuff. More important, the kids dig it. Uniform thread Another uniform thread Yet another thread about uniforms One more for good measure Now try not to repeat anything already stating in the above links. Since I started 2 of those (2 years apart), I will "defend" myself= since uniforms for so many schools change yearly if not WEEKLY...1 post per year seems like it is not enough. So, we were due for one!!! I hate most everything about what Boise does. Personally I like classic or a mix of modern and classic. But uniforms are big business, and no doubt some schools think it can propel them to new heights. Oregon MIGHT be proof of that...though it was just part of it. They definitely became "hip", but they also got better coaching and BIG TIME $$ from that Nike dude. You'll get no complaints from me! I'm actually like a chick in this regard - I love uniform discussions! Someone on here came up with some great uniform graphics a year back. They were great. I wish we'd go to the gold helmet, white jersey, white pants look for our away uniforms.

In the hands of the right artist, a white helmet with a blue and gold design might look really good. Personally, I think a change in the kangaroo head is needed in order to freshen things up. There is one change I would make to our branding, but I'm not going to say it here because it might cause a firestorm (Hint: It involves what we call ourselves). I've never been a big fan of the Roo-A logo, or Roo logo, for that matter. From any distance at all it just looks like a blue blob. But it has grown on me. But I LOVE the name Zips. I'm old-school, but I love nicknames that are unique & convey a region's history with the name. Zips does that. I don't like generic names like Bulldogs, Lions, etc. Actually, I consider Buckeyes to also be a great nickname (no one really knows what a buckeye is either).

Love them! As long as we stick with GOLD and DO NOT go to YELLOW I am fine with whatever they do. (I am, though a big fan of the gold helmet. I would hope any change would try to retain a mostly gold helmet.) No yellow!!! Blue & GOLD. Go Zips!

Most excellent! It's also great to see that 1350 will be broadcasting 9 men's futbol games (as well as 1 ladies' match).

I hope we get another exhibition game in before this game. Malone? Walsh? Mount? Anything would be nice.

Another good reason why some top HS basketball talent might consider coming to UA. How many college players get a chance to go up against LeBron for a week? I was thinking the same. LBJ's honestly changed national perception of Akron for the better (did Akron even have a national perception?). All of a sudden, it's cool to be from Akron. Over the years, as I've travelled, I've had to say I was from "Akron, Ohio," - and I would get some polite nods non-verbally communicating, "Okay, yeah, I think I've heard of Akron." But now, a simple "Akron," will suffice & people's eyes light up (well, men; not women) & almost always followed with a question about LeBron. The country is just simply fascinated with LBJ. When I have small talk w/ strangers, LBJ & his love of Akron, without fail, is one of the first topics brought up (by them, not me - but I'm always happy to indulge their curiosity). I don't think there is a person alive who doesn't know who LBJ is & the fact he's one of the biggest Akron homers to have ever lived is just absolutely priceless for this city's perception & renown.

I've been up to Summit Mall twice over the past two weeks to get one of these t-shirts but they've been sold out both times. They're going to call me when they get more in. I'm really hoping to have one before Saturday's Cleveland State soccer match. I've definitely got to have one before the Cleveland State basketball game & the MAC Tourney @ Quicken Loans Arena. It's the perfect shirt to stick it to Cleveland the let them know that they don't own us (well, most of us). We are AKRON.
