just throwing this out there... does anyone think KD's job could be in jeopardy in the future?
"In the future," is an awfully vague time table. I'm assuming you mean at the end of this season? If that was your intent, then the answer to that question would be absolutely not. We're probably due for a down year. It's been quite a while.
Before the season began I admitted that I was already more excited about next year than this one. I do wish Diggs received more PT and I am very excited about Abreu. But other than those two, we are still the same, under-athletic team that we were all disappointed in last season. Next year we see the full fruits of KD's change in recruiting philosophy with the infusion of Chauncey Gilliam & Brian Walsh as well as the additions of (cross your fingers) Demetrius Treadwell & Nick Harney. Additionally, Josh Egner won't be playing like a true freshman next season & we're getting who recruiters call the most athletic player in the state of Illinois in Deji Ibitayo. Finally, the Big Man will be entering his junior year... we're gonna be fine. This year, however, might be a little rough - which, due to KD, we've grown completely unaccustomed to.

Does this superstar have a name?I know of at least 1 DE who would be considered a minimum 3.5* , had lots of interest from the coaches here and still no official visit, has been to campus 2 times and loves itYes he does, should that be disclosed here ?
My guess: Kevin Brewton (sp?) from Garfield.

Didn't our coaches just recently make a recruiting trip down to Colerain? And this guy, who has offers from Cincy, Louisville, Kentucky, Wisky, Indiana, Boston College, Minnesota, NC State & Colorado verbals to... K.e.n.t.?!
-
The key to the city is HUGE. What do you do with something like that? I was expecting it to be a trophy-sized piece intended, naturally, for presentation in a trophy case. Is that thing intended to hang from the rafters of the JAR, or something? (I'm assuming we're keeping it to display.)
-
Glad to hear it was so well done. How was the attendance? I wasn't able to make it - had to coach a kid's basketball team practice.
-
Q's for KD:
-When did he come to the realization that he was going to have to recruit better athletes to compete w/ Can't State & other more athletic teams?
-How are Demetrius Treadwell & Nick Harney coming along in thier studies & quest of eligibility?
-Are Brian Walsh and Chauncey Gilliam able to practice with the team? If so, how are they fitting in? What roles do you see them fulfilling next season?
-How are our two high school senior recruits faring in their senior seasons?
-What's the story behind how you came across Alex Abreu?
-How is Willie enjoying his position as an assistant coach? Do you see coaching in Willie's future?
-Looking ahead, have we started recruiting any high schoolers to replace Zeke in 2 years, or is 2&1/2 years too far down the road?
-(He may not be able to comment on this one, but) Are there any greater Akron-area high school players you and your staff have your eye on? Is City Series senior Darius Carter (Firestone) on the radar? Are you trying to get him to walk-on? How about City Series juniors Antonio Hearn (Kenmore) and Davonte Brunson (East)?

I work out toward Alliance & while most people simply refer to the school as Mount Union, if they want to include "University" in the name I've heard most people say Mount Union University. The University of Mount Union just doesn't sound right, since the school is located in Alliance. However, I was told that waaaaaay back in the day, the little section of town right around the intersection of Union & State Street was known as Mount Union. So, though no one under 80-years-of-age would know this, I guess it makes sense.
On a side note, the smaller colleges - Walsh, Malone & Mount are feeling pressure to change their names from "College" to "University" in order to attract foreign students. Apparently in europe "college" simply means high school, whereas "university" means post-secondary or higher education.
I agree though, that in America is sounds strange. When I hear "university" I think of a UA or Can't State - mega schools where research takes place. When I hear "college" I think of Walsh, Malone & Mount - small, liberal arts schools.

The dance team should simply go ahead and choreograph a number to
by Jackie Q. It's quite obviously one of their primary sources of inspiration. Or, they could probably just copy the choreography straight from Jackie Q's video. -
Ummmm... thank you?

One point about the SEC that nobody has made. This is going to come off as mean, but here it goes. You can be a near retard and get a scholarship to an SEC school if you are a good football player.
That's how Forest Gump hooked up with Bama.
Your best line in a long time!
Agreed. The 'Meister's best line in a LOOOOOOOOOONG time!

I'm starting a new feature on my blog called 20 Questions. Here is our first edition, 20 questions with Nate Linhart.
Nate (of course) was very classy about the whole thing and his responses are great. Take a look: LINK
Good work! Very entertaining read!

That was the best game Ohio played since the Georgetown game... and that wasn't a coincidence. Everyone sees the talent this team, but as people have pointed out, they have been mediocre at best so far this season. Why? I think part of it is motivation. They simply don't get up for every game.
They get up for Akron. One played flat-out said, "I hate Akron." While I've never gotten anyone on the Zip side to be that blunt, they feel the same way . There's some bad blood here, and Ohio is going to be jacked for Akron each and every time they play. The Zips have to be ready for that.
It was "chippy" out there. It's good OU got up for the game; at least one team did. I wish we had played with some of the passion OU obviously brought to the court last night! Bobcats outplayed the Zips in every facet of the game.

I was supposed to take a group of 10 middle school kids I work with to the game. Due to the weather I called off the trip, but I still went to the game myself. I am SOOOOO glad I chose to not bring the kids. What a truly AWFUL game to watch.

Great find!
From the last paragraph: The Lackawanna Conference landed four players on the Big 33 team – Abington Heights tight end Morgan Craig, Delaware Valley offensive lineman Brandon Clemons, Dunmore offensive lineman Paul Gaughan and Riverside running back Nick Rossi.
Gaughan has verbally committed to Boston College and Rossi has done the same with Akron.
Hopefully Nick can convince him to don the beautiful blue & gold as opposed to the fugly brown & orange. Come enjoy the Info, Julian!
Btw, the scout profile lists Campenni @ 6-0, 260 but the article lists him at a more formidable 6-1, 285.

Another former Glenville DB from the class of 2010 has had a falling-out with his new head coach.
A little birdie told me that this is a situation worth keeping an eye on for Zips fans. His situation means that he can transfer without sitting out a year.
This would be fantastic. Last year Rivals had him as a 5* recruit listed at 5'11" 185 w/ a 4.4 40.

Selected for the Big 33 Game
I always enjoy getting a summer preview of a future Zips star in this game (usually televised on STO, but I think it was on NFL Network last year). I think the last Zips RB to play in this game was Brandon Payne?
This is a very good development. I'm still dissappointed in Georgio Bowers' transfer, but maybe Nick Rossi will come in here next year and earn the starting job? We're awfully thin @ the RB position right now. (Or H-back, whatever. I still don't know what that is.)

Leave the purple at home just like the red/grey. Find some Zips gear! ........ a lot of purple in the crowd. .Since Jackson HS is obviously in no way a competitor of UA, I see no problem whatsoever in having them proudly wearing their school colors to UA games.
Note to all Jackson Polar Bears fans: You will have no problem at all attending Zips games in your school colors. Be proud of your state championship basketball team, and feel free to come to the JAR and watch Josh Egner develop from a Jackson HS champion player to a UA champion player. We love your enthusiasm and noise level.
I agree with Dave on this one. I, for one, enjoy seeing all the different schools' varsity jackets & colors being worn around the JAR (and the Info too - for the first two games! Lol.) To me it shows that UA can, and does, unite the greater-Akron area. We can all come together and be proud of our Zips!

(I think he might be able to dunk the ball, but is holding back his full athleticism to reveal it at a later time).
No one has ever accused me of that.
-
Some Can't fans are talking smack in their responses to Rasor's blog.
-
Well that should do it for DB's - at least I hope so. We've got 5 DB's in this class, with an additional two "Athletes," one coming in @ 5-9 154 and the other @ 5-7 160.
We need some big uglies.
-
- Yellow shirts are ugly. They just are. Simply not looking forward to seeing those.
Uhhh... what are you talking about? Can't's uni's?
-
Well, it's Wednesday afternoon of Can't State week and there is very little discussion of the impending matchup with the boys from the Portage County Correctional Institute.
This is one reason I don't like beginning conference play w/ the Fellons. I don't know their team yet & thus don't really know what to expect from Saturday's game.
Thanks for the summary! Well done, again.

Looks like we are beginning to take advantage of the coaching changes happening around the country.
Rodnell Pierce, who originally went to Ball State in 2010 as a greyshirt, is coming to Akron. He played safety for Glenville in high school. I believe that as a greyshirt he will have four years to play and the opportunity to gain a fifth year if his academics are good enough. He is a 3* safety according to ESPN recruiting.
Thanks for keeping tabs on recruiting, Zach!
Will Rodnell be eligible to play immediately, or must he sit for a year?

I captured this off of a Johnstown High School Wrestling Slideshow on youtube. Looks like a three star recruit to me.
That's the BEST recruiting joke in Zipsnation history!!
On a serious note, I am encouraged that he's a wrestler (hopefully a good one).
I agree. It's great that he's wrestling. It'll improve his balance, leverage & body control. Not to mention conditioning.

[Edit: in response to the verbal by Justin March]
Great news! Thanks, Zach.
The picture Rivals has of March says a lot. Though a bit undersized, he sure looks like a LB! I would NOT want to run into him in a dark alley!
