Also, a new bar opening at the old Whiskey Dick's in the next month or two.
Any name or idea of what style of bar?

They are two fine neighboring institutions of higher learning.
You should have flushed the money you gave to Can't down the toilet.
I cannot think of a single program Can't has that is as good as what UofA offers. I cannot think of a single program at Can't that comes close to our Polymer Science School. UofA has a much better engineering school. UofA has a much better business school. My brother is a doctor and he says the best nurses around are UofA graduates. UofA has the nationally known Ray C. Bliss Institute. UofA yearly produces the highest percentage of first time bar sitters that pass the exam on the first try. I will give it to Can't that they have a first rate fashion museum
.
Let me say again. The only thing Can't is known for is the unfortunate matter that happened in the 1970s. That's pathetic. I have no respect for the president of Can't. I have no respect for the students at Can't. I have no respect for the sports programs at Can't. I have no respect for the faculty at Can't. I have no respect for the janitors who clean the buildings at Can't. They could bulldoze the whole place as far as I'm concerned. If Portage County went back to being a swamp, nobody would miss it.
A friend of mine went to law school @ UA. Upon graduation he received the highest score in the state of Ohio when he took the bar exam. He is very intelligent, highly motivated and, needless to say, now makes a very good living.
I also have an acquaintance who went to Can't, studied journalism, and is now a pizza delivery person - I'd say pizza delivery "boy" but he's almost 40!!!

Any joy in beating Ohio State would be greatly overwhelmed by the humiliation of being beaten by that joke of a program for 5 straight years. I can handle and live with losing to Ohio State. I cannot handle the thought of being dominated by the Flushes.
Very good point.

Like I say all the time, we compete against that school down south for students, athletes, faculty, and media attention. I'm a Zips fan. When OSWho fails, and it affects their ability to recruit against us for students, athletes, and faculty, and diminishes their media attention, that's a good thing for the Zips. And I want as many good things to happen for the Zips as possible.
+1.

Serious question -- Will this exodous hurt the Zips program with regard to graduation rates? Does the NCAA nail UA because kids aren't graduating...even though they are turning pro?
Good question. I remember Bob Huggins comment/gripe about how his graduation rate at Cincy was deceptively low because most of his players would leave after 4 years (but before completing their degree work) to play in Europe.
It'd be rather ironic to have a team stocked w/ academic all-americans yet have a low graduation rate. (Not an irony Huggy Bear ever had to endure. Lol.)

By now I figured Zach would have found something else out about this guy (I wasn't able to find anything). Any 411 out there, Zach?!

Chipotle rumored for downtown!
Hopefully on the south side.
Also, a new hookah bar is opening up in the Kaiser Building across from Canal Park. I believe it's called the Karma Kafe.
Lux is moving into 22 Exchange.
And the link also mentions the new Nervous Dog Coffeehouse that is going in next to Brubaker's Pub.
Our downtown is starting to rock!

Even though Can't's our rival, Can't's an Akron metropolitan school. I'd root for Can't against Ohio State any day. It's hard to pick which I'd prefer here.
My thoughts, to a tee. bobbyake, I like your style.
But I must admit, I ALWAYS have butterflies before the Can't games - either basketball or football. I didn't have butterflies before the Columbus State game a few years ago. But you could probably chalk that up to low expectations.

Good find & thanks for the link, kentzip.
Dajour Morris sounds like another very good get! Way to go, iCoach!

Frank Clark is a great target. We're still in the running for a handful of very impressive prospects! Go iCoach!!!
Here's a nice update on Nick Rossi. Sounds like we've got another (bigger) Brian Wagner in this guy.

Marla's take on Hazell.

Well, the Zips will look to get back on track tonight under the bright lights of Las Vegas. Their first opponent comes in the Trojans of UALR out of the Sun Belt Conference. UALR is a fairly decent team coming in with a 6-5 record and wins over Tulsa and Louisiana Tech (although in fairness they were blown out by Oral Roberts and Missouri State on the road). The Trojans look a lot like last years Zips team with only one player averaging double figures scoring, but going 10 and 11 deep in their rotation. Senior Guard Soloman Bozeman leads them in scoring at just under 13 per game. He looks to have a bit of McNees in him as he likes to bomb away from 3 where he takes nearly 50% of his shots (although he hits them at a very respectable 40% clip). Size is an issue for the Trojans as they only have two players over 6'7" (Derrick Bails and Gus Leeper both clock in at 6'9", but neither plays more than 12 minutes a night). This leads to a fairly predictable rebounding issue for the Trojans who rank 205th in the country in average rebounding and only have two players grabbing more than 4 boards per night. If the Zips stay patient pounding the ball into the post with Zeke, Nikola and McKnight they SHOULD have no problem handling the Trojans. This is a game that the Zips ought to be able to win, but with the Jekyl and Hyde nature of this team right now, nothing is for certain.
Thanks for the preview! Well done!

Well obviously spring games should be open to the public. Spring practices... for all the reasons GP1 mentioned, absolutely not.
I remember going into my sophomore year, we were having a spring practice out at the Rubber Bowl and Owens had a bunch of recruits and their parents out there watching practice. We were in Inside Drill, which always gets heated, when a linebacker and an offensive lineman got into it, ripped each other's helmets off, and started swinging right in front of where all these people where standing. Two seconds later the entire offense and defense was running over there and throwin down. I was hurt at the time and not practicing, so I was standing over away from the action taking it all in. Parents were running away in horror, mothers were screaming, and the kids were split: half were laughing and seemed to be enjoying the show, while the other half looked petrified. It was quite a scene.
The fight got broken up eventually, Owens went over and made some jokes and smoothed things over with the moms in that politician sort of way he had, and practice resumed. At the end of practice, shortly after the recruits and fam were ushered out of the bowl, Owens absolutely ran the team's asses off. I don't think I ever saw him so pissed off in 5 years. I was glad I was on crutches.
THAT's why you don't open spring practice to the public. There are a lot of things that happen in spring practice that goes into making a football team that's not for public eyes. And then there are also legitimate spying concerns. If OSU opens all their practices to the public, they are idiots. Spring games are fine and are just for show. You only run your basics in the spring game that everyone knows you have in the playbook anyways and the film doesn't even get evaluated by the coaches, so the guys aren't that fired up and you rarely see fights breaking out, swearing, vommiting, verbal dress downs and abuse from coaches, and all that fun stuff.
Priceless!!!
Thank you, ITZ!

Can't beating usf wasnt that impressive. Both of usfs big men didnt even travel to Can't so they were just playing the backup frontcourt.
I'd give my left nut to beat any Big East basketball program, under any circumstances.
Also noticed that Hunter Yurachek's new school beat LSU last night? Nice win for the Chanticliers.
In all fairness it should be pointed out that the Captain has three testicles and losing his left one would make him more closely resemble a normal human being.
It should also be noted that the Captain is volunteering only to relinquish his left nut, which, in most men, hangs lower than the right. So to secure a win over a Big East opponent, our fearless Captain is really only willing to give up the "low hanging fruit," so to speak.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Tom Wistrcill and his family in the AD Suite during the last football game this year, and I also witnessed his passion during the College Cup. He is definitely a genuine, nice guy.
He's definitely started off on a bad foot for football, but let's hope (like always), things can turn around.
I also wanted to give a shout out to Dr. Proenza. He had commencements on Saturday, but made it out Sunday to the Cup. After the game, when the players ran to the Rowdies, Porter and Proenza followed. After congratulating with Porter, someone from the Rowdies started a "Louis P!" chant, and upon acknowledgment, Dr. P stopped us, pointed at Caleb, and said something like "This is for him." He literally looked mad. I thought it was awesome, he was so happy for Porter, and so proud. I got a really good picture of the two walking back to the team, with Dr. P's arm around Porter's shoulders. Should sell it to the University or something.
POST IT!

Steve French would agree. I wasn't able to attend Monday night's game, but I listened online, and Frenchy mentioned on two separate occassions - after Abreu had been substituted for - that "the Zips are back to their old ways of running offense." He was referring to the low-scoring, pass-pass-pass-pass-pass around the perimeter & finally launch up a contested 3.
Abreu for team MVP?
