  1. I agree it was a screw job by the NCAA, but the soccer team should have been good enough to win this game regardless. The first half the team looked clueless out there. At least in the second half they showed more aggression. I'm not much of a soccer fan and one thing I hate about it is how hard it is to score. NU goes up 1-0 and I figured it would probably be over as then all NU has to do is sit back and play Defense.
  2. Time is becoming an issue now. Less then 10 minutes to go according to the clock on the field I saw.
  3. Yes I am! I hope this isn't a repeat of last year's first round loss!
  4. They can't spell Special Teams either. Who's the Special Team's coach, fire Him! (I know its JD so he needs to fire himself). one game we're talking about how great the special teams are (block pat for 2pt safety?) and now they have a bad game and we're calling for the coach's job. we really are pathetic fans.I wasn't saying fire JD as coach of the team, I meant he needs to fire himself as special teams coach. But you are correct, for the most part he has done a good job with the special teams so far this year other than this game. He does need to find a special teams coach though so he can concentrate on the mess of a defense the zips have.

  6. I agree! Lots of poor backups in the NFL so he should have no problem retaining that job for a while. It is a shame he doesn't seem to have the skills to be a starter. I hope someday the Zips can find another qb who will be successfull in the NFL as a starter.I bet the Zips would have won the 2 games against Cincy and BGSU if CF would have been the starter. I miss watching him in a Zips uniform!I also will continue to follow CF and hope for a miracle. I listened to all of last week's Seattle game on Sirius only because Frye was starting!
  7. Well due to injuries to the other 2 qbs he did take all the snaps in practice on Wednesday, however it appears he won't start on Sunday:http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/seah...awknotes09.htmlLooks like he may get some playing time though:http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/seah...ndex.html#33111
  8. Seems like YSU and Can't should switch places. YSU to the MAC and Can't to whatever conference YSU is in. I agree Akron's attendance is disappointing, but the Rubber Bowl is a dump and its distance from campus brings down attendance too.
  9. How come prediction #5 says Akron and Can't will both have winning seasons, but Akron is not included under #1 as one of the teams that will be bowl eligibile? Its been a while since a MAC team cracked the top 25. I'd love to see it and hope some day that team is Akron!
  10. I predict 4-8, same as last year. I think JD will still be coach next year unless he wins less then 4 games or we get blown out in most of the losses.
  11. I like the idea of saying something nice about your opponent. It might be tough to do that for Can't State though! Also what was with the comment that Dayton is the best of the mid-sized Ohio cities? Dayton isn't bad, but I'd put them just above Y-town at the bottom of the list.
  12. How about everyone picks out a bar in the Akron area and we try to gather a whole ton of Zips fans to overpower the buckeye fans. We should be able to take over one bar, right?Sounds like a good idea. Somewhere like BW3's near campus might work. We need a smallish bar or else we will still be overwhelmed by OSU fans.
  13. We had our draft early (last week) due to lots of people being out of town for the next several weeks. I picked up Hixon as my last pick just so I could have a Zip on my team and so I could add "Go Zips!" as I drafted him. I figured I'd keep him for a couple of weeks at most and drop him. Now I am hoping I'll actually get to play him. I used to draft Charlie Frye when he was with the Brown's just so I could have a Zip on my team. I actually used him as a starter once as an emergency, and I believe he did okay, but I'd love to have a Zip who scored on a consistant basis and could be part of my starting lineup.
  14. It's listed on the BTN schedule for noon. BTN has several alternate channels that basically show their whole schedule of games. I'm sure it will be on at the Fairlawn Lizard. That's where we watched the Indiana game last year. This year I get all the BTN channels so I can watch at home. Not the same as the lizard, though.I really wish the Zips game wasn't on at the same time as the OSU game. I don't have BTN and I bet any bar I go to will be lucky to have even one tv with Akron-Wisc on it. Plus I'll have to fight the sea of red to even find a seat to attempt to watch it. I might even skip watching the game and listen to it on radio just to avoid the massive OSU crowds.
  15. Wow, it sure would be nice to win there after that prediction.Much is made of their $16.67 per ticket season ticket package. UA's tickets are much cheaper, but then again we don't guarantee we will win any of our games.
  16. Seriously? This is a weak move by the athletic department, or the MAC office, whoever is in charge of the schedule here.It just tells people that we're second-rate. Why the hell should we base our schedule around another, unrelated school's game time? I don't care who you root for, this is weak.I could careless about the OSU game, but most people in this state are Buckeye fans and this is a very big game for them. I'm sure people would skip the Zips game rather then miss even the pre-game for the Buckeyes.
  17. Congrats! I hope this doesn't make him too big for Akron, but good luck regardless! Just make sure he doesn't go to
  18. I think the fans are just getting tired of not winning it all and get frustrated with the program. Who knew that when I was a freshman we would be in the NCAA tournament and 22 years later and counting we still haven't made it back! At that time Akron was the up and coming program and Can't was nothing. Now we have to hear about Can't winning it all and winning 20+ games 10 years in a row. It makes me Still I'm not giving up on KD just yet. Next year will be a bit of a rebuilding year, but the future is still bright. And even though they beat us 3 times I still think Being a Zips fan is like being a Cleveland sports fan - maybe next year will be our year (same rant every year).
  19. Everyone is making good points.Back to the original question - RPI...worth anything???It is if you are a bubble team from a major conference (as mentioned OSU is one) as your RPI is higher by default, so the selection committe uses that as a reason to include major conference bubble teams.RPI is also used to exclude mid-majors.RPI is never used for as a reason for an at large bid for a mid-major, at least not on its own. If your SOS is low and you have a good RPI too bad you are out if you are a mid-major.The quality win argument (wins over top RPI teams) is only used as a reason to include or exclude mid-majors. It doesn't seem to matter for major conferences as long as their RPI is good. What I don't get is the Strength of Schedule rating being so important. RPI takes SOS into account, Miami of Ohio is a prime example of that. So why is worry about SOS when its already part of the RPI equation? Oh thats right - it gives the committee another reason to exclude mid-majors.Oh well at least
  20. It will be even tougher for Akron to win next year at VCU especially since we loose 6 seniors. One thing that might be in our favor (and something VCU doesn't want) is the coach for VCU may be gone after this year. That's the problem with a great coach at the mid-major level, most of the time they move on.I couldn't tell if it was goal tending on Wood's shot or not; being at the game I didn't get a replay. I did find it surprising his shot was blocked as I don't think he has ever had a shot blocked when he was that close to the rim. I did think he was hammered on the one play and didn't get a call, but that's life in college basketball, no team can whine that one or two bad calls to cost them the game. Over the course of a game I'm sure their are usually bad calls both ways.I give prop's to VCU's defense, but Akron didn't help themselves by missing several wide open shots either. I think the key in the second half was VCU kept up their defensive intensity and Akron slacked up a bit after a good first half. Akron also missed a lot of bunnies inside all game long, probably due to the VCU shot blocker making the Akron players tenative about taking shots.
  21. According to this Miami (85) is still ahead of us on rpi and we have beat them twice. Shows you what a great measure rpi is. Of course if the NCAA selection committee actually used rpi without considering all the other factors ($$$$$), Akron would play the rpi game too. All it takes is a couple of games at high rpi teams and win or loose you get a better SOS and therefore a better rpi.
  22. Destruction? I believe Miami will win, but its hard to believe they can destroy anyone with their slow paced offense.
  23. Wow cut loose Bardo and McNees? They are only freshmen (redshirt ones, but still freshmen). I don't think Goddard is on a scholorship and Quade is a senior so the only one that warrants getting cut loose is Conyers.I think without Wood we are just a middle of the pack team. Even with him we are probably only 4th or 5th best as I consider Can't, WMU, Ohio, and maybe Miami all better than Akron.
  24. In the OU, Can't, and this game I have been very disappointed in our defense too. Akron gives up way to many layups and dunks.
  25. I'm beginning to think teams have figured out how to play Akron. Pressure our guards, force turnovers, and don't allow us to get open for 3 point shots.
