For an excellent example of inflated player heights go to that site and compare the picture to the heights listed.

I think you are overestimating the value of the Tressel name and parental/coach. The kids are very sophisticated these days.
Based on way too many years experience with college age kids, I can attest that you are over estimating the degree of sophistication possessed by them these days (unless you equate driving and texting with sophistication).

I just need to through in a side note. @Cykron and l are both season ticket holders for the Cyclones. I can't believe that both teams managed to fumble into the end zone trying to score a winning TD in the closing minutes, and then take the lead late in the 4th quarter in another game only to see the game slip away. For the Clones, it was a 60 sec drive (no time outs) with a 62 yard FG as time ran out!
Please post more about football in Iowa; I can't get enough of it.
Also, if you have any Iowa track and field news to share, that would be great.
Heard they are supposed to be especially good this year in the hammer through.

I’ve mention that name before in a previous post. Would like to bring him on but not sure what UC is paying him right now. Has Ohio roots but could be looking at bigger d1 schools since UC is a top 6 contender right now. Would love seeing a Tressel as a hc here at Akron even if it’s a stepping stone job.
Tressel's salary in 2020 was $667,385, the same he made as Dantonio's highest-paid assistant while serving as defensive coordinator in 2019.

I asked Guthrie about the potential for conference expansion with MTSU and WKU. He saw no reason for it. Neither school brought a big metropolitan market that could increase the eyes watching MAC FB or BB. Additionally two more slices of the TV revenue would have to be given up thereby lessening what each existing school got with little chance of negotiating a fatter deal because of these two. I do not know for sure, but I bed Charles shared his opinion with Miller, who values Charles insight.
All that being said I have a sentimental interest in seeing WKU as an opponent. I remember regularly playing them when we were in the OVC. We played MTSU regularly too, but I never liked them.
What you and Charles do behind closed doors should be of no concern to others. Go Zips.

Attendance at Akron games could be significantly increased if a ticket not only got the holder into the game but also entered the holder into a cash lottery. The standard prize could be some nominal amount - say $5,000. But if the Zips win a game as an underdog the standard amount would be increased by a factor positively related to the point spread. (e.g., win as a 3 point dog - prize goes to $15,000; win as a 6 point dog - prize goes to $30,000). Of course, to win the ticket holder must be in attendance. Some of our most highly attended games could be when we are huge underdogs. And don't tell me this is illegal; haven't we given away scholarships to students in attendance in the past?

I can't warn you because I don't know what a flop out is, but it sounds ominous.
does it have anything to do with the fact that dre "liked" me making fun of his poor grammar?

GP1, you treaded where I wanted to go, but was afraid to be accused of, well, you know...
i believe the next HC will be a minority, but not because he is a minority, but it will be an added feature, if you will. I thing AD Charles and CFO Marcus will pursue this avenue, as there are no minorities (other than women) at the helm of any of the Zips 14 or 15 programs. I don’t believe it will be a priority, but I think it will be a “tie-breaker” if you will...
If you want the maximize the feature of the next coach hire a one-armed, Asian, female.

You went to Notre Dame?
Nope, but the freshman team at the school I was at when Gerry was hired by Akron could have given the Fighting Irish varsity a run for their money.

If I recall, who hired him afterwards?
In 1987, Akron became the first school in the nation to move up from Division I-AA to Division I-A, under the guidance of head coach Gerry Faust. The Zips begin spring practice tomorrow in preparation for their 119th season overall in Fall 2019.

#CFB150 #MACtion #OurWay pic.twitter.com/4J5o5XVWtsThere was some other Guy name Paul Brown who left coaching HC and lead some school in Columbus their 1st national championship
Don't remind me. I was at a national college football powerhouse at the time Gerry was named the new Zip's coach and the verbal beating I took from people who knew my connection to Akron was unmerciful.

Tyrrell is a fantastic HS coach. As a Hoban alumni, I am very impressed with what he has been able to accomplish there.
However, I don't agree with putting a HS coach directly into a Div 1 HC job. He would probably be a fantastic coordinator, an NCAA D2 coach, or an FCS coach for a couple of years. Once he shows what he can do at the collegiate level, be the first in line to hire him for the HC job.
I recall some guy (think his first name was Gerry) who was a fantastic HS coach in Cincinnati and was hired as HC at Notre Dame where he was a miserable failure.
Turns out a lot of success at the HS level may have been due to the fact that he could recruit players while most of his counterparts could not.

In some ways they were not alike (e,g., one had an abrasive personality while the other said "you know" enough that he might as well have had an abrasive personality).
In other ways they were alike (e.g. an abysmal win/LOSS performance.

Well, the pee wees, mighty mights, etc. are taught the basics. Maybe this team needs to go back to the basics. A gap responsibility? I get that. It's a relatively small area of which to be responsible/defend so why haven't the linemen been able to manage it? Once the ball is moved down field, disengage and go after it! Don't stand around watching the play unfold is what I'm saying when I say "follow the ball." "Everybody does it now"? Then it should be familiar, easy to read, and defend. Perhaps the Zips need to do things differently. I say, "what do I know" because there are men reading my posts who believe women know nothing about football. I'm just saving them from saying it.
It would be fun to watch 300 (or so) pound linemen racing down field to catch up with a running back or wide receiver. However, it may not last past the first quarter as most of them will be gassed, and cleaning the vomit from the field could require official timeouts.

Zippyroo, I'm talking about the players that have had to stand on the sidelines since game 1 and watch this team be massacred or self-destruct week after week; 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. on the so called depth chart. The ones that maybe get to go out in special teams; you know, the placeholders the coaches really don't care about. Red shirt? Who cares! On game day, they all wear blue and gold!
You know how in basketball the guys sitting on the end of the bench don't tend to get in the game much. Well, my sister had a nephew who rode the pines at the end of the bench for the University of Texas. My sister suggested to him (on more than one occasion) that he move closer to the coach to increase the odds that he pick up some playing time. Thankfully he ignored her advice because he realized (like almost everyone who plays a sport) that playing time is earned in practice, not by how close your game day seat on the bench is to the coach. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the guys who aren't getting into the Zip football games should stand closer to the coach.

Bigger question. Why haven't we scheduled Evergreen State?
Perhaps the Akron schedule makers are afraid of the Geoducks. Although they did not play last season due to COVID, in 2019/20 they recorded a 3 and 23 record. Plus. their current roster includes two big men, both measuring in at 6'5". If we do decide to schedule them in the future PLEASE make sure it is a home game because anyone who enjoys fantastic scenery will never come back to Akron after they have been to the Olympia area.

What is a joke? Not sure I understand, what is being stated? Is this about the money that was given to players as loans when NCAA stipends where late?
Not about NCAA stipends. It is Arth not understanding that to increase the odds of a football team's success, especially at the G5 level, it is important to lure athletes who are not well-suited for college.

Nebraska won a boat load of games running the triple option with Turner Gill, Mike Rosier and Roger Craig in the backfield and a bunch of human bulldozers on the line. I don't believe they had given up on football at the time.
