Like it or not with title 9 at D1 your football program is critical for all the other sports.

Would love to hear your explanation for the critical nature of football for other sports at D1 programs.

Seems like a lot of ADs spend time creating obscure women's sports like rowing in order to comply with title 9 because they have football.

Your last sentence may in fact be correct, but that's irrelevant.

I have a relative who is well connected in Ohio high school football. The problem is no high school coaches don't take Arth or anyone on his staff seriously as D1 coaches. It will never matter if he can coach or not as long as there is no talent. Recruiting is more important than coaching. He'll never be successful at Akron.

I don't wish ill on Arth. He just needs to go. He'll be fine. It's shocking that Akron has missed so badly on two coaches in roughly 15 years.

If they could get someone to donate a dollar for every "ya know" in that presser it would be enough to buy him out.

Incredible!!! In ya know many ya know sentences ya know ya know separates every ya know other ya know word.

Folks really believed a coach that went 9-13 at Chattanooga could turn this program around #Privilege

About equally sad, if he was 9-13 since arriving in Akron, he would have already received a contract extension.

All I can see is 'Alanon' on those blue unis but my eyes have seen better days. Gold on white is rough. White uni looks OK ... if you haven't gotten enough of script 'Akron.'

I see the AL and the ron, but between them is a little guys face looking at Al.

I think it would be better to fill the info.  Maybe AD could book a rock celebrity to be an honorary captain and link to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

Left to their own devices, following your advice, the UofA marketing folks would spare no expense and book entire rock bands, including: Slightly Stoopid, Rock Bottom, Limp Bizkit, Diarrhea Planet, and The Airborne Toxic Event.

I actually don't mind the Script Akron on the basketball uniform, and while I don't love the font of the numbers and the huge trim stripes, I'm cool with that new navy jersey. I'm a big fan of the black jerseys we got last year, though they would look a lot better on a navy base.

However, on the football helmets, I hate it. Hard to read and doesn't look like anything. I miss the big fat Z decals or the Fear the Roo logo w/ the numbers that they wore a few times. Sexy as hell.

Couldn't agree more with your last point.

Every time I saw that Fear the Roo logo w/ the numbers I was aroused.

Would be cool if FBS pulled off some sort of relegation system like European professional soccer, but the odds of that are probably worse than mine are for winning the Powerball jackpot tomorrow.

    This would NOT be cool.

If this were to happen, it would be unsafe to walk outside because there would be no way to avoid getting hit by the crap from all the flying pigs.

I don't get it! The Zips are playing teams that beat the snot out of them for the money the program gets? What about losing their fan base, chasing away top recruits that won't want to play for a losing program, demoralizing players and disillusioning ones that never get into a game not matter how badly the team is losing, risking injuries in these lopsided games... ? Please explain the logic to me.

    Life is full of trade-offs.

All 3 of you have me pegged wrong and have assumed I have a grandson on the team. Yes, I'm a grandma and have bleacher butt from all the football games I watched. I'm new here because I just recently found this chat. Things aren't always as they seem.

So, what is the name of the lineman whose performance you found to be inadequate?

As I sit here, a beleaguered, defeated Zips fan, once again feeling aggravated and deeply embarrassed, I present a common-sense list of schools we should NOT be scheduling at our program's present state.  There will, naturally, be year-to-year exceptions to the schools heretofore listed, but this list can function as a simple rule-of-thumb that any normally-functioning adult will understand without explanation.

To our adult decision makers, this comprises only 20 (less than 30% of P5) schools we have no business scheduling right now.  Not difficult.

This leaves over 70% of P5 schools from which to choose:

Please explain the similarities.  I do not see it so I need an explanation so that I can understand your point.  Akron does not have near the number of 4 star players.  The only similarity that I see is that both teams have a former NFL player as a head coach.

All of their newcomers have two legs; all of the Zip's newcomers have two legs.

All of their newcomers are male; all of the Zip's newcomers are male.

All of their newcomers have cell phones; all of the Zip's newcomers have cell phones.

    etc.

I don’t think Akron could compete with Jackson State. They have G5 talent at the FCS level. Thankfully they don’t have them scheduled.

Article on Coach Prime and the talent he has at Jackson State.. His defense is made up of power 5 transfers. Within the next year or two they’ll be competing with power 5s

The similarities of the newcomers to Jackson State and the Zips is uncanny.

All things considered, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the size of out last 2 home crowds.

Are you saying the attendees tended to be large people, or that there were lots of people in attendance?

What were both the official paid attendance and butts-in-seats number for the Zip's s home games so far?

I realize way too many teams (including the Zips) routinely achieve the 15,000 average attendance required to maintain D1status with smoke and mirrors, but I worry Akron doesn't have anyone with the magical skills needed to continue this charade much longer.

They had an entire InfoCision Stadium worth of empty seat Saturday. Might be a good opportunity to get some good tickets at a cheap price on the secondary market.

Yes, but that was against lowly Tulsa.

Now you're talking the Zips coming to town.

The scalpers are going to have a hay day as folks scramble to get their hands on tickets to watch the Battle of Ohio in person.

    Zips by 14.

    Difficult game to handicap.

Zips are terrible. Bryant is a bad FCS program.

Zips pull away late and win 31-16.

I don't care how bad the rest of the MAC appears to be, I still don't see a second win on the horizon. Mathison is the only Arth recruit that is proven to be worth the price of admission. Offense or defense. That's not enough. Hope I'm wrong.
