  2. Brad Ruhaak is scheduled to be the student speaker at the UA Fall 2016 Graduation ceremony that includes the College of Engineering. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2 p.m. College of Applied Science and Technology College of Engineering College of Health Professions Wayne College Student speaker: Bradley Ruhaak, Williams Honors Scholar, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  3. It certainly was a match for those (probably all, if not most of us) who love to see a lot of scoring. The Impact's defending on set pieces certainly was the most atrocious that I've ever seen. I read somewhere that it was noted this is the 2nd year in the row that a Cascadia Cup team (Seattle, [Portland, Vancouver]) travels to a Trillium Cup team (Toronto, [Colimbus]) for the MLS Cup Final.
  4. It was very entertaining, and I too, was disappointed that Evan didn't have a stellar game like he had had several times in the season for the exact same glimmer of hope. Also, the MLS Cup Final would be much more interesting to me with at least 1 former Zip player involved.
  5. Check the Browns attendance these days. The majority of the significantly less than capacity crowd show up for the other team not the gameday experience. Edit: Also, I'm not the one beating a dead horse. I was mocking those stating that those things would put their butts in the seats even with a lousy game/opponent. Fans show up to the K.ent game because of the game not the arena or the sideshows.
  6. I guess I'm a relic at my age ... I still like to go to a game for the game, and when I'm there I like to be sociable and talk with my friends during times out and half time.
  7. The game stinks because the opponent sucks and I get splinters in my butt on the bleaches, but the lighting, sound system, and half time entertainment are awesome so I'll be there. Really?
  8. I'm with you skip-zip. I prefer having something for a Zips player in my collection. I got the LeBron bobblehead that went with the KD bobblehead and gave it to a kid who politely asked for it after the game. Who knows, he may have gone off and sold it, but I like to think that it meant something to him...much more than it would have to me. I'm ecstatic that LeBron is the guy who brought the first championship in 52 years to Cleveland, but I don't collect LeBron memorabilia. I have the Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis bobbleheads, but not the LeBron. I have the Charlie Frye (missed the Jason Taylor, I guess) and also the DeAndre Yedlin bobbleheads. Hoping they will do a series of Mens soccer player bobbleheads...Darlington Nagbe, Scott Caldwell, Chad Barson, etc., and perhaps a Caleb Porter. I even bought a Teal Bunbury (Sporting KC) bobblehead for a reasonable price on eBay.
  9. MAC schools scheduling NAIA and DIII schools ensures the MAC is even less than average.
  10. And the question of why the MAC only gets 1 ticket to the dance will come up eventually yet again this season. Bookmark the answer herein.
  11. 8 matches in slightly under 8 months (between 24 March 2017 and 10 October 2017). Thank goodness for January camp.
  12. I'm with you a-zip. It will likely go to Arena, but I don't understand it. Been there; done that. In fact Gulati was the one who got rid of Arena. So, I don't understand going back to him. Caleb is a winning coach developed by a winning coach (Jerry Yeagley). I would love to see him with this opportunity where he could pick the players he wants from the best that the US player pool has to offer. I'm certain Darlington would be in the mix, and I would think DeAndre would still be there too. Perhaps Kitchen; perhaps Trapp. I would trust, though, that Caleb would utilize the players that put USMNT in the best position to win and they would be in positions that make sense.
  13. Will be interesting to see which former Zips are invited to January camp and what this may mean, if anything, for our previous head coach.
  14. For anyone still following the Mens Tournament, there is another Akron connection besides Phil Fives at Indiana... http://www.siuecougars.com/sports/m-soccer/coaches/berger_billy?view=bio SIUE - Director of Operations Billy Berger begins his fourth year with SIUE men's soccer program in 2016, and his second as the full-time Director of Operations. Berger previously spent two seasons on staff as a graduate assistant. Berger is directly involved in all off-field activities for the program including practice planning, travel, and video operations. Prior to coming to SIUE, Berger worked as the team manager for the Akron men's soccer program from 2009-2012. He assisted the Zips' coaching staff with training, equipment management, game day preparation and video analysis. During Berger's time with Akron, the Zips won the NCAA Championship in 2010 and finished as the NCAA Runner-Up in 2009. He graduated from Akron in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He earned a master's in Kinesiology from SIUE in 2016. A native of Columbia Station, Ohio, Berger spent the 2012 season as an Assistant Varsity Coach at Columbia High School. He was named the Assistant Coach of the Year in Lorain County.
  15. Giving up 4 goals in 13 minutes after leading 4-1...MAJOR collapse.
  16. If you noticed, the writer said it was a small gripe. I would, however, prefer that it counted up. Soccer play by play is always in terms of what minute (total game) in which something happened. It's been done occasionally. They still stopped the clock at certain times per college rules. The sub rule is the biggest problem with developing players for the next level. College players who are not 90+ minutes fit can easily get overly inflated stats. I would continue to allow more subs in college than pros, but once a player is subbed out, they should not be allowed to re-enter. With the "bloated rosters", there are plenty of players available who could actually get more playing time.

  18. Lest we not forget defeating IU November 28, 2010 in Akron in the round of 16 of that NCAA National Championship Season. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2010-11/schedule or August 18, 2009 during the regular season at Akron as part of the 23 wins leading to the College Cup. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2009-10/schedule
  19. http://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/if-usmnt-fires-jurgen-klinsmann-here-are-the-top-candidates-to-replace-him/ ... 2. Caleb Porter ... Porter motivates his players and relates to them well, and he knows how to make proper changes mid-game to boost his team, especially in the attack. He guided the University of Akron to the national championship in 2010 and then took the Portland Timbers to the top of MLS in 2015. He's still coaching Portland and knows the game and the MLS-based players very well. He would be a darkhorse but he would be my pick. ... Mine, too.
  20. “Playing on this campus and having one of the best fields in the country is absolutely an advantage for us, and we have the best fans in the country as well,” Najem said. “Having the opportunity for us seniors to play at least one more game on our field just means the world to me. Hopefully we can get that result and move onto the next round.”
  21. Nevertheless, it is an NCAA Tournament match and deserves respect as such. Zips Mens Soccer's reputation, including sizable crowds, certainly helped to get Akron a home match this season. The UA Athletic Department owes it to this team to do everything possible to promote and encourage as large an attendance as possible. Zips Mens Basketball v American University is just another in a long tradition of cupcakes at the JAR .
  22. Great job by our team that suffered numerous key injuries and losses this season. So happy for them that they dug deep and found their way to do as needed to win the MAC again and keep the NCAA Tourney appearance streak going. ?
