  1. Speaking of RPI ... Kudos to WVU for taking part in this weekend's tournament at Akron. Great boost to MAC RPI for WVU to be playing Seattle and Georgetown.
  2. Nice Welcome to Newcastle United FC...
  3. No doubt. Free Kick goal, perfectly placed, golden goal, game winner, punch Zips' ticket to College Cup...

  5. Actually, having been there I think it would have been tough to tell by the tv coverage. There were pockets of fans in various locations around the stadium. Even the Zips fans couldn't agree on congregating together behind our team. Some were behind the Stanford bench. Some were up at the top of the center lower sections. Some of us were behind our bench. Plus there were numerous fans in the loges as well as standing along the walk ways. Also some of the Akron & Stanford fans only showed up for our game. Some of the Syracuse and Clemsen fans left after their game. I think the number for the semis looks about right, but absolutely is too low. I can confidently say that there were more Zips fans in Cary in 2009 and at UCSB in 2010 than the were in KC last year. It wasn't cheap getting there, and KC isn't much of a draw in December. It will be interesting to see how the College Cup draws in Houston this year. Although Houston is not one of my favorite destinations, it isn't bad in December and has a major hub airport as well as a good secondary airport. I've heard, but not confirmed, that UCSB is to become a regular College Cup destination. I hope that works out. I don't think most people realize how fortunate we were in December 2010. That was unusually warm weather for SB in December. The weekend before the 2010 College Cup, the weather was cool and raining a lot. The weekend after, they had a lot of mud slides in the area.
  6. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/transfer-zone/2016/08/24/26799752/source-deandre-yedlin-completes-newcastle-transfer He was already living in Newcastle when he played for Sunderland last season. Last season, helped Sunderland avoid relegation. This season, help Newcastle to pop back up to Premiership.
  7. Possession belonged to the Zips, but no one stepped up in the final 3rd. Disappointing. I hope our forwards and attacking mids figure it out quickly.

  11. http://www.soundersfc.com/matchday/golden-scarf In the club's inaugural season in 2009, the club established a tradition before the match starts that puts on display the intense passion of Seattle’s soccer community. To honor that passion, the club recognizes an individual before selected games with the Golden Scarf. “We wanted to start a tradition in light of the fact that the Seahawks have the 12th Man flag, which is phenomenal,” Senior Vice President of Business Operations Gary Wright said. “We wanted to do something to honor members of our community who are either part of the soccer scene or have done remarkable things for society in Seattle.” The club selects a member of the community that is presented with a special gold scarf, which has come to symbolize the game of soccer, which they raise over their heads, signaling to the fans to do the same. Because of the arrangement of the ceremony, the club also has the opportunity to honor a presenter as well.
