  1. @Z.I.P. thanks for all of this great information. I really like that we scheduled GCU. They may just be getting going, but it looks like they have the right things in place. If they're on our away schedule next year, this is a trip I want to make in addition to the Pacific NW trip that I'm hoping we schedule to "pay back" Seattle and Oregon St. Would be most awesome if the Timbers were home that weekend.
  2. I think some questioned this opponent when the Zips' schedule came out. Looks like they're a good draw at their place. A visit there in 2017 could be fun.
  3. Sophomores Vincent and Lundt named DI College Players of the Week KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 30, 2016) – University of Akron sophomore Ben Lundt and University of Louisville sophomore Gabrielle Vincent were named the NSCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s College Players of the Week.
  4. Not sure who to contact either, but got a number of likes and a retweet for this...
  5. I made it a point after the match to not only thank and congratulate Ben for his awesome goal keeping, but to also thank and congratulate Zips GK Coach Ger Coppinger.
  6. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2016/08/adam-najem-college-soccers-best-player-is-already-doing-things/ ...NFL scouts love SEC programs because they more closely replicate the hard-knock rigors of the pro game. The styles are similar and so the risks are fewer. There are a few college programs that routinely produce good professionals, and Akron is essentially the Alabama of men’s college soccer. The coaching and development apparatus are there in a way they simply are not in most other programs. The track record of pros at every level – Yedlin and Kitchen and Trapp and Nagbe and Mattocks and Abdul-Salaam and Bunbury and Zakuani – is not to be ignored. There are no coincidences here....
  7. UCSB defeated tOSU in OT 1-0
  8. Nagbe and Yedlin called up to USMNT for World Cup Qualifying. http://www.ussoccer.com/mens-national-team/latest-roster#tab-1
  9. The Zips got 1. So, not scarce enough for the Hoyas.
  10. It's soccer. That's how it goes sometimes. The Zips do need to do a better job of finishing, but scoring the winning goal with 36 seconds left against a team of Georgetown's caliber is exactly the kind of win that should convince fans this is a team worthy of their attention. As far as today's opponent, our players and coaches all know that Seattle is every bit as good as if not better than the Hoyas. It will be a tough match. Another match worthy of Zips Men's Soccer.
  11. Newcastle United put DeAndre Yedlin’s dope new hairstyle on their match program
  12. Speaking of RPI ... Kudos to WVU for taking part in this weekend's tournament at Akron. Great boost to MAC RPI for WVU to be playing Seattle and Georgetown.
  13. Nice Welcome to Newcastle United FC...
  14. No doubt. Free Kick goal, perfectly placed, golden goal, game winner, punch Zips' ticket to College Cup...

  16. Actually, having been there I think it would have been tough to tell by the tv coverage. There were pockets of fans in various locations around the stadium. Even the Zips fans couldn't agree on congregating together behind our team. Some were behind the Stanford bench. Some were up at the top of the center lower sections. Some of us were behind our bench. Plus there were numerous fans in the loges as well as standing along the walk ways. Also some of the Akron & Stanford fans only showed up for our game. Some of the Syracuse and Clemsen fans left after their game. I think the number for the semis looks about right, but absolutely is too low. I can confidently say that there were more Zips fans in Cary in 2009 and at UCSB in 2010 than the were in KC last year. It wasn't cheap getting there, and KC isn't much of a draw in December. It will be interesting to see how the College Cup draws in Houston this year. Although Houston is not one of my favorite destinations, it isn't bad in December and has a major hub airport as well as a good secondary airport. I've heard, but not confirmed, that UCSB is to become a regular College Cup destination. I hope that works out. I don't think most people realize how fortunate we were in December 2010. That was unusually warm weather for SB in December. The weekend before the 2010 College Cup, the weather was cool and raining a lot. The weekend after, they had a lot of mud slides in the area.
  17. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/transfer-zone/2016/08/24/26799752/source-deandre-yedlin-completes-newcastle-transfer He was already living in Newcastle when he played for Sunderland last season. Last season, helped Sunderland avoid relegation. This season, help Newcastle to pop back up to Premiership.
  18. Possession belonged to the Zips, but no one stepped up in the final 3rd. Disappointing. I hope our forwards and attacking mids figure it out quickly.
