DeAndre Yedlin on fire

Sounders releasing Johannson. -
I am so proud of our Zips and how they handled so much adversity. I couldn't be happier for them. These Zips are a special group. I know someone posted the article about Jake Kretzer's heart issue in another thread, but I missed this article on March 13th on Ohio.com. I apologize if it was posted elsewhere, but I hadn't realized what Jake has had to deal with over this season. GO ZIPS!

DeAndre Yedlin on fire

The U20 WC takes place in July 2013. I've forgotten the cut off birth date, but I'm almost certain DeAndre is eligible. He should have been in the qualifying, IMHO. However, I think it's better that he's been with the Sounders. He's certainly making great contributions. Perhaps he'll be noticed by Jurgen Klinsman. -

74 yards x 110 yards according to this article. If I remember correctly, that's approximately 4 yards narrower than our Cub Cadet Field. -

If you're also going to the Tigres match on March 12th at the "Clink", you might run into Caleb in the stands. The announcers stated during last night's Timbers match that he had attended the Sounders-Impact match on March 2nd (one week prior to playing the Impact). -
Pre-Season: Spring 2013

Yes. One thing about that dome at Krenzler Field is that the sound carries well across the field. Quite easy to make out Jared giving direction. -

I agree with your takeaways. Robbie and Aodhan were both there, but not dressed. I talked with Robbie following the match. He said he would be ready in April. I remember reading (on twitter, I think) that he had surgery during winter break. I said "hi" to Aodhan, but didn't get to ask him how he was doing as he was talking with others. -
My point was that if you really want the recruiting class information released, you should go to the folks who can do so. Griping about it on Bigsoccer won't help you get what you want. I've already e-mailed one of the folks I listed (a few days before I saw your post on ZN.o). Perhaps if more people did so, we would see something. Krenzler Field does have an inflatable dome which I believe will be on the field for Friday's match. See you there.

Porterland vs Columbus, in Columbus

As far as tailgates, joining up with "Team Nanchoff" might be the way to go, if possible. Weren't there several hundred Michael Nanchoff supporters tailgating and sitting in the stands when Vancouver came through last season? -
Whether or not we know who's been recruited, we should start getting a feel for how our team looks under the new coach this Friday at CSU. Perhaps instead of posting on BigSoccer, you might try contacting the AD, the SID (aka Associate Director for Athletics Communications), or the new Head Coach. E-mail addresses are available on GoZips.com.

I heard that, too, from Caleb at the end of the match, but then... Darlington Nagbe, Diego Valeri inspire Portland Timbers comeback Porter fires up Nagbe; Ryan Johnson praises Valeri's play ... "Sometimes with Darlington you have to give him a kick in the ass,” Porter said after his Portland Timbers rallied from a two-goal deficit to draw the New York Red Bulls 3-3 on Sunday at JELD-WEN Field, “in a positive way, you know, pump him up." And with the Timbers facing a 3-1 halftime deficit, Porter had just such a talk with the young midfielder/forward – who he coached at the University of Akron before Nagbe became the Timbers’ first pick of the 2011 SuperDraft. Nagbe responded by kick starting the Timbers rally with a 56th-minute goal, then teaming up with new his new attacking partners to inspire the equalizer just seven minutes from full time. “He’s been telling me the same thing since I was 17,” Nagbe said of his coach’s motivational tactics. “He’s a great coach, a great guy and he knows how to motivate every single player, which is what I think is great about him.” ... “Part of it is just telling Darlington, instead of a midfielder, he needed to play more like a striker and get at their right back and go after him,” Porter said of Nagbe’s matchup with Kosuke Kimura. “We knew that was perhaps a matchup we could win. The light bulb went on. And he was a handful in that second half. I felt he was a big part of us turning the game around.” ... Timbers Army: -

Just to set the record straight, the 2009 Zips Mens Soccer team went 23-0-0 to start that season (matching an NCAA record). As far as last night's game, I'm disappointed and hurt for the players. No matter what I'm feeling as a fan, I know that they're hurting more. The key as you say is to remain focused on winning the MAC. See you at the JAR Tuesday. GO ZIPS!

Kudos to Jake who was awesome last night. I hope he had lots of friends/family from Waverly in attendance, given the proximity. If I remember correctly, he also had an outstanding performance in the OT vs Middle Tennessee that was a key to victory.

I thought this deserved its own thread which we can use now and in the summer. U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team Qualifies for 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup with 4-2 Victory Against Canada After falling behind 1-0, the U.S. exploded for three goals in a 17-minute span to close out the first half. Luis Gil opened the scoring, and ussoccer.com Man of the Match Wil Trapp added one just before halftime. U.S. Soccer Development Academy product Jose Villarreal scored a pair of goals to increase his tournament total to three. ... The U.S. kept its foot on the pedal and added a third goal in first half stoppage time. Gil delivered a corner kick that goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau punched to the top of the area where Trapp lurked for a rebound. He ripped a full volley from 20 yards that deflected off Mauro Eustaquio and caromed past the helpless ‘keeper. I was afraid they might take the goal away from Wil, changing it to an own goal given that it deflected off a Canadian player, but they have not changed the scoring as of this time. Lineups: USA: 1-Cody Cropper; 2-Boyd Okwuonu, 4-Caleb Stanko (capt.), 5-Shane O’Neill, 3-Juan Pablo Ocegueda; 8-Benji Joya, 6-Wil Trapp; 9-Mario Rodriguez (19-Brandon Allen, 90+2), 10-Luis Gil (17-Danny Garcia, 77), 20-Daniel Cuevas; 7-Jose Villarreal (16-Dillon Serna, 84) It was great to see Dillon get into the action, too. He had a nice shot off the cross bar near the end of the 2nd half (before the stoppage time).

The US U20 MNT qualified for U20 World Cup this summer by defeating Canada 4-2. Wil Trapp scored the USA's 3rd goal in the stoppage time just before the half and played the full 90 minutes. Dillon Serna came on in the 84th minute and had a shot off the cross bar. Of course, it was sweet to hear Akron mentioned several times as well as see our former Zips in action. -
Effect of OU's loss ... the MAC (and Zips) lose credibility. I'm no OU fan, but that beat down by Belmont is not good for the MAC or the Zips. I'll never understand how Zips fans can complain about conference strength/credibility and then be so happy about a loss like this.

DeAndre Yedlin in the starting lineup for the Sounders with Adam Johansson out with an injury. #Homegrown 1st Sounders homegrown player Yedlin gets massive opportunity by starting tonight v Veracruz Sounders FC lineup: GK Michael Gspurning, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Zach Scott, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Leo Gonzalez, M Mario Martinez, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Brad Evans, M Steve Zakuani, F Mauro Rosales, F Eddie Johnson EDIT: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/soccer/2013...endly-at-6-p-m/ One of the interesting names on there is DeAndre Yedlin, starting in place of Adam Johansson (knee). I asked coach Sigi Schmid about Yedlin’s progress yesterday. “He’s doing all right,” Schmid said. “We’ve talked about a lot of things early on that I wanted him to get better at, and he’s put some of those things into his game. He’s got to use his quickness and his speed, because he has quickness and great speed, and that has to be the hallmark of his defending. When he does that and he does that consistently – he did that a couple of times last night – then I think he’ll make his way.” -
