  1. I will be there. How can you get advanced tickets? EDIT: I guess that's to be announced: http://www.thecrew.com/news/2014/05/crews-fourth-round-lamar-hunt-us-open-cup-opponent-set
  2. VOTE: http://www.mlssoccer.com/all-star/2014/vote 7 Zips on the ballot, if I didn't overlook any. Kofi Sarkodie DeAndre Yedlin Perry Kitchen Wil Trapp Teal Bunbury Darren Mattocks Darlington Nagbe
  3. Eric Stevenson, NYRB. However, he has yet to play in a first team match.
  4. Bisbee and the Mrs. are extremely happy and proud. They texted me the news on the 22nd while I was driving home from a 2-week roadtrip. So proud of and pleased for DeAndre and the Zips Mens Soccer Program as all of you have posted.
  5. Thanks. I missed that allong the way. http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2013/07/05/state-budget-amendment-clears-way-for-sin-tax-extension/
  6. Apart from the college vs pro sports, the difference in summit county is a sales tax that hits everyone vs a sin tax that hits only those who drink or smoke. It's easy for those who don't drink or smoke to vote for a tax on alcohol & cigarettes.
  7. I agree that both yellows were warranted, but Parkhurst's pass put Wil in a bad situation on that 2nd yellow. I'm not impressed with Josh Williams at RB, Oduro is lazy and makes bad decisions in my opinion, and Higuain is often in the wrong position. Hopefully, as the Crew continues to play this style, they will work out the issues. I'd imagine Wil has to be somewhat frustrated.
  8. Sorry, but all I can think when I read this is "No shit, Sherlock"... Statistics show Trapp will be tough to replace Crew midfielder to miss Wednesday’s match against Houston due to red-card suspension http://www.thecrew.com/news/2014/05/statistics-show-trapp-will-be-tough-replace
  9. Richie's awesome goal got noticed by Top Drawer Soccer. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2014/04/akron-freshman-hits-stunning-goal-in-spring-game/
  10. Perhaps because Maryland Football actually draws a crowd, albeit small for the B1G. 38,878 average in 2013 according to this article http://www.pressboxonline.com/2013/11/26/terps-home-football-attendance-is-low-for-big-ten Historically, Maryland has drawn crowds greater than 50k. Maybe they're expecting that to happen regularly as a member of the B1G. http://www.umterps.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=208133544
  11. Dillon Serna scored his first MLS goal in the Rapids' 4-1 loss to the Sounders. Dillon scored in the 62nd minute (approximately 6:44 on the video highlights). http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-04-26-seattle-sounders-fc-vs-colorado-rapids/recap
  12. Sacramento Republic FC set a new USL PRO regular-season attendance record, but the Harrisburg City Islanders claimed all three points as they took a 2-1 victory at Hughes Stadium in front of 20,231 fans on Saturday night. Robbie Derschang and Morgan Langley both scored for the Islanders, who took their first win of the season. http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/804761.html
  13. @fknbuflobo, I found this a week or so ago and forgot to mention it at the Spring match vs Louisville. It answers your question about why the Crew didn't sign Eric Stevenson as a homegrown. http://www.soccerwire.com/news/pro/akron-senior-eric-stevenson-overcomes-chronic-injuries-to-play-in-mls-combine/ "After the season, he was in talks with the Crew to sign a Homegrown Player contract, but the league deemed that Stevenson had not trained enough hours with the first team the past two years. ... His lack of training hours in Columbus stemmed from playing for the Seattle Sounders FC Under-23s in the Premier Development League in summer 2013."
  14. Is anyone planning to go to the Spring match at Xavier this Saturday? I was considering it, but leaning toward attending the NY Red Bulls vs Crew match in Columbus instead. I wish the match at Xavier was at 1 or 2 pm so that I could do both and get home at a decent time. A 7:30 pm match in Cincy is not really conducive to my traveling there and getting home at 2 - 2:30 am. I think it's unfair to our players as well, but that's just my opinion.
  15. TDS has Zips at #10 http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/early-look:-top-10-division-i-mens-teams_aid32876
  16. Watch Aodhan Quinn and Orlando City SC vs FC Dallas reserves at 8:00 pm ET tonight here:
  17. Speaking of Ezana Kahsay... From Africa to Akron: Ezana Kahsay's Soccer Story http://buffalo.twcnews.com/content/sports/715923/from-africa-to-akron--ezana-kahsay-s-soccer-story/?ap=1&MP4
  18. Interesting. I agree with MES102 that the AD needs to be taking better care of Jodi. IMHO it took way too long for her contract to be extended as I think it was recently. They should be reworking that again after winning the MAC Tourney.
  19. I noticed Najem wearing the armband as you said. He didn't seem too vocal for being a captain. I didn't realize Souders was wearing an armband as well.
  20. Aero design team breaks record, finishes 1st in international competition http://www.uakron.edu/im/online-newsroom/news_details.dot?newsId=ec16fc25-a28e-436f-87be-2c38b1f88a9f#.U1Z1xiS3KIA GO Zips!
  21. I agree TennZip. I'm also hoping Seremba will be fully healed and match fit in the Fall.
  22. I'll be disappointed but not surprised if Mac Rhoades steals another of our coaches.
  23. All good points, and you and others are welcome to your opinion. However, your use of "heart-warming" made my stomach turn enough that I had to share the other opinion which I know I don't hold alone. As I said, Ken Lolla did good things at Akron, but how he left was not good. Albeit, in the end his departure was very much our gain. Perhaps I should have shaken his hand Saturday and thanked him for that. My best memory of Ken Lolla is witnessing my Akron Zips, led by Caleb Porter, holding the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer National Championship trophy and celebrating on the pitch at Harder Stadium with him and his preferred program watching from the sideline. It could be done at Akron. Ken Lolla just couldn't do it. Edit: By the way, it's not an irrational grudge. I'd consider it a grudge if I went out of my way to say something disrepectful to Ken. Until reading your post, I never gave him a thought. I really didn't intend to argue with you either. I just got ill when I read "heart-warming" and had to respond. Peace.
  24. @fknbuflobo Good summary. However, I personally take exception with the "admiration" for Ken Lolla. I didn't even consider acknowledging him. Albeit he did a great job at Akron, I'll never forget that he left for another NCAA Divison I program stating it couldn't be done at Akron. In actuality, thanks to his leaving, it (a National Championship) has been done at Akron. THANKS Caleb Porter who left for the professional ranks not another NCAA program.
