  3. If anyone wants an actual Zips connection, watch around the 11:23 mark to see Abdi Mohammed and Marco Micaletto among the Crew2 winning the inagural MLSNEXTPRO Cup. Another great piece starts around the 40 minute mark highlighting the beautiful game around the world and in Cleveland.
  4. Agreed. Referee Nicholas Balcer should absolutely be reprimanded / suspended.

  9. https://pittsburghsoccernow.com/2022/11/20/pitt-dominates-akron-3-0-to-return-to-the-sweet-16/ ...The Panthers also played a disciplined performance against the Zips, who continuously lost their cool and earned a number of yellow cards. An assistant coach and Zips head coach Jared Embick earned a red card as well after the game. 10 Zips players also received yellow cards throughout the match. Noel said that the Panthers prepared well for the match and played in control, whereas Akron played in the complete opposite manner. “As soon as the ref blows the whistle, it’s just a matter of getting back behind the ball and just stick to the next action,” Noel said. “Just be ready for the next one. I really felt like our group was ready and controlled the game compared to Akron, who were more aggressive and more stressed and making a lot of fouls. We just tried to stay calm and resilient and it worked out.”...
  10. Sometimes it’s difficult to recover mentality after such a p poor call early in the game. I’d say the NCAA should look into suspending that ref for that call (basically not understanding the game), but apparently they have a shortage of knowledgeable referees.

  12. Article from July 2014 http://americansoccernow.com/articles/deandre-yedlin-s-rapid-rise-through-the-u-s-ranks Yedlin was timed in the 40-yard dash at Akron and “was running about a 4.2 or 4.3,” said Jared Embick, who replaced Porter as Akron’s head coach. “People talk about NFL guys running 4.2, 4.3. DeAndre has that kind of pace. But it’s not just that he’s fast, he’s strong, he runs strong, and that makes him able to run through contact, fight off tackles.” Like most elite youth players, Yedlin was an attacking player for most of his club soccer days. Porter spotted him when he was assisting at a U.S. Under-18 national team camp and afterward sent Embick to recruit him. After Yedlin committed to Akron he was converted to right back to best utilize his pace and strength. As I recall, from talking with DeAndre's grandparents, it was the Zips then Head Coach Caleb Porter who suggested DeAndre make the switch to right back. ... some US Youth national team scout. lol
  13. …Yedlin’s fiancée, Crystal Rodriguez, is taking Seneca to “abuela’s house” in New York, where she will stay for a week while Rodriguez travels to Qatar to watch the first few U.S. games. DeAndre has been Facetiming with the baby whenever he can. His grandfather, Ira Yedlin, and uncle, Dylan Yedlin, are also traveling to Qatar. Yedlin’s maternal grandparents were hugely influential in his upbringing, as his father was in prison and his mother was young when she had him. Now, it is Yedlin helping the younger generation. …
  14. My guess is @ZippyRulz was referring to the match in Akron. 🤨
  15. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/canada-top-japan-in-final-pre-world-cup-friendly When it appeared that both Qatar-bound teams would be splitting the points, Toronto FC's Richie Laryea earned a penalty deep into stoppage time that Cavallini converted from the spot to give Les Rouges the late win.
