  2. Might as well continue the Moon Area Boys Soccer in the PIAA (PA state) championship run "thread" since @TennZippointed out to me (offline) the exciting win that the team had yesterday. I suggest reading the entire article linked below, but I picked out key sentences. https://www.timesonline.com/story/sports/high-school/soccer/2022/11/09/moon-boys-overcome-first-half-deficit-advance-to-piaa-quarterfinal-with-3-2-win-over-palmyra/69628720007/ ... For the first time in the 2022 soccer season, the Moon Tigers boys team were trailing a game. ... ...Two quick goals for Palmyra put the Tigers on the backburner in a rare display at Tiger Stadium. However, as the old saying goes, a two-goal lead is the worst in soccer. The Tigers proved that on Tuesday night, making a major comeback in the second half. In the span of seven minutes, Moon scored three goals to lift the Tigers over Palmyra and advance to the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Tournament with a 3-2 win. ... ... Aedan Costa scored two goals, while senior Davi Jansson added one of his own. ... ... Costa kicked off the comeback with a tap-in past Palmyra goalkeeper Julian Meley, with Dominic Corrado recording the assist. ... ... Jansson, Moon’s leading goal-scorer this year, added the second goal off an assist from Ryan Kopay. Costa scored the game-winning goal with 13 minutes left, picking up a rebound after Meley muffed the ball and Costa position himself toward the far post. Kopay took the initial shot. ...
  3. As usual, RPI and the Tournament Committee are what matter. I have confidence that Captain Sammy Tojaga who has played for a National Championship (on an unseeded Zips team) along with Captain Will Jackson, Johnny Fitzgerald, and Joey Paulus, who have been here one less year than Sammy and have only tasted one NCAA Tournament game, will rally our team for a victory this Saturday and a seed in the 2022 Tournament.
  4. I completely agree. I would love for us to join the Big East for Mens Soccer. Great programs, excellent schools, and the geography makes sense. I’ve attended Zips Mens Soccer matches at Xavier, Butler, Creighton, St John’s, and Georgetown. I’d love to travel to see our games at the other schools as well.
  5. Are you certain about that if we’re only moving the Mens Soccer team?
  6. 1st step achieved.
  7. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpi Akron is #13 in the NCAA RPI ranking Through Games Nov. 06 2022 (Gaucho Dan's realtime RPI ranking seems to be tracking well with the NCAA RPI rankings) I agree that the Zips must win the MAC Tournament Championship game next Saturday to maintain an RPI ranking in the top 16 and get a first round bye.
  8. Oh well. 😉 The tweet says WPIAL, but I understand the confusion. PA seems to run their boys state soccer championships a little different than Ohio, and it didn't occur to me that someone might misinterpret my post. Happy for Ryan Kopay to make it this far...hopefully, he and his team keep going. Thanks to @TennZipfor posting the PIAA tournament bracket. When I looked for it on their site before he posted, it was still blank.
  9. https://gozips.com/news/2022/11/5/mens-soccer-no-12-akron-battles-western-michigan-with-mac-title-on-the-line ...KAUZLARIC AND KINGSFORD TO BE HONORED ON SENIOR NIGHT The Zips' contest versus Western Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 6, will mark the final regular season home games in the careers of senior Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) and Ryan Kingsford. Kauzlaric has appeared in 23 career games at Akron, including 16 starts, owning a goal and two assists on the strength of 20 shots, including four on net A two-year member of the Akron squad, Kingsford, a 2021 First-Team All-MAC performer, has played in 35 career games as a Zip recording 11 goals and nine assists on the heels of registering a pair of game-winning goals on the strength of 49 shots, of which 21 fell on frame.... With this said, is Sammy Tojaga returning for another season (did not play in 2021)? I would love to have Sammy with the Zips for another season.
  10. Final by the way…
  11. Borneo / Bartels has a nice ring to it. Soon to be Zips…
  12. Sorry for any confusion that was just the WPIAL (Western PA) championship, not state. Moving on to state, I believe.
  13. Congratulations to Zips Mens Soccer recruit Ryan Kopay (Moon Boys Soccer #7) on his championship game-winning goal today.
  14. Richie Laryea 👍🏼
