I had to share this tweet thread between Zips Men’s Soccer alum Zarek Valentin and his former “boss”, the TimbersFC owner. ???

If the MAC drops men's soccer, there are other conferences nearby that I believe would be happy to have a team of the Zips' calibre. Men's Soccer is one of just a few Zips' teams that would add immediate, significant value to another D1 conference. -

Panel approves soccer rules changes to align with international competition I don't understand why they didn't address 2 rules changes that could have made college soccer more relevant. 1. Clock should count up to 90 minutes 2. Limit the number of substitutions (maybe 6) and no re-entry. -

Blueprint Soccer XI - Jared Embick - Episode 14
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I'm still listening to this podcast as I post this, but HUGE THANKS to Zips Men's Soccer alum Clint Caso and our current Head Coach Jared Embick for an awesome conversation. -
https://enriquepaez.net/life-on-the-pitch/ ...I spent three wonderful years in Florida, where football, physical and mental training became the priorities in my life. In the process, not only would I create lifelong interpersonal bonds, but would also be recruited and offered a spot to play for The University of Akron. I was filled with pride and thrilled to join an elite group of players in one of the best football schools in the United States. The four years I spent in Akron were without a doubt the highest point of my playing career. Apart from our incredible success on the pitch—4-time conference champions, 2 appearances in the NCAA Tournament national final, and 1 NCAA national championship—I was also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a topic that fascinated me. My leadership skills continued to develop throughout my playing career, and as a result, I became captain of every team of which I was a part. I knew already then that when my career as a player came to an end, I would become a professional football coach. In January of 2011, a month after graduating and winning a National Championship with the University of Akron, I headed back to Mexico in search of professional playing opportunities. Keen to be near family, I started playing with a 3rd Division team in Mexico City called Proyecto Tecamachalco. During my first year I was invited to try out for 1st Division team Atlante F.C. Unfortunately, my dream of playing at the highest professional level would never materialize. Nevertheless, I had already planned for this moment and was eager to start the next chapter in my career; becoming a coach. My first step would be to pursue a master’s degree in Sports Science at Akron with a specific focus on coaching. Simultaneously, I would be a part of the coaching staff for the university team and provide academic support for student-athletes. I remember this time as a period of extreme growth and development as I absorbed information from some of the best coaches in the country like Caleb Porter and Jared Embick. Porter is currently the head coach of MLS club Columbus Crew, while Embick has taken the reigns at the University of Akron and has led the team to three Final Four appearances and more than 100 wins. ...

@fknbuflobo I have to add another very significant match for Jake Fenlason. In the 2015 College Cup semi-final, Jake kept Stanford scoreless, with 6 massive saves that allowed the Zips to take the game to Penalty Kicks, where the good guys had several opportunities to advance. During the run of play, the Zips shut out a potent Stanford attack that included USMNT player (first cap November 2014) and future Seattle Sounder, Jordan Morris. Jake was HUGE vs Stanford in Kansas City as well as the Elite 8 match you mentioned vs Creighton in Akron. ?⚽??

Ok @fknbuflobo "I am not going to mention the NCAA Tournament FK game-winner vs. Creighton in 2015, because I am fairly confident someone will add that. Hint." Thanks @ZipsMSoc!!! Adam Najem ??? " None reading this will ever forget Scott Caldwell scoring the lone goal in the 2010 title match vs. Louisville, making Zips National Champions. For that, Scotty should never be permitted to buy his own beer in Summit County. " Thanks @MACSports Scott Caldwell ??? ?

Their keeper with the most minutes had a goals against average (GAA) of 2.14. The other 2 with minutes had GAAs of 1.98 and 8.00. Midfielders or defenders may be better options. https://gobearcats.com/documents/2019/11/1/2019_msoc_combined_season_stats.pdf
