Exactly @ZipsVoice I don't think any of us said the CSU game was a priority. I expect our Zips to show up, ready to play, whomever the opponent and regardless of who is not available. Disappointed that we didn't see that. Although the CSU game would not have affected RPI in a helpful way, it would have given the Zips the possibility to finish the season/MAC Tourney with a winning record. Now, the best the Zips can do is 8-9-2. Could be the difference in getting a 1st round NCAA Tourney home game vs a road game.

I agree, but it was sad at one point when he was lying on the field, in NIU's penalty area, after what he felt was a missed call, and his teammates had to beg him to get up...I heard repeated, "Come on Eggy, we need you." He finally got up and something clicked...he raised his game and did everything he needed to do, except for the stupid yellow card for frustration. David is so talented. If he could get past the drama, I believe he would be one of the greatest D1 NCAA players ever and likely an outstanding professional as well.

That was unbelievable. Thanks so much Zips. That match will be remembered as one of the greatest Zips Men's Soccer matches ever. So happy to see our team really hang in there in the face of adversity. 3 goals in 8 minutes! WOW!!! Please, let's build on this. BELIEF. These Zips can do this!!! See you in Morgantown Thursday for the regular season finale.

No problem. What you posted is what I found when I went scouring the MAC's website. When it came up, I looked at the menu/header, and it showed "MBB". So, I think it is specific to Basketball and possibly Football. The MAC used to have the soccer tiebreakers posted, but I can no longer find that information. i don't know when they stopped posting it or changed the tiebreakers. They used to follow soccer-specific tie-breaking procedures that aligned somewhat with the pros. At least they made sense for the sport and number of teams involved. I don't understand why the MAC has gone away from being "transparent". One would certainly hope they have these things written down and agreed-to prior to the start of a season so that there is no consternation in deciding when the time comes. Why would that information then not be made available to the fans? I don't get it. The B1G doesn't hide theirs...https://bigten.org/news/2019/9/23/2019-mens-soccer-tournament-tiebreaker-procedures.aspx 2019 B1G Men's Soccer Tournament Tiebreaker Procedures All teams shall be seeded based on the ending Conference standings with 3 points awarded for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. Ties for seeding will be broken as follows: A. Head-to-head results B. Goal difference between goals scored in all Conference games C. Comparison of total goals scored in all Conference games D. Best record by points (3-win, 1-tie, 0-loss) versus teams in descending rank order E. Coin flip.

If I recall correctly, there is a tiebreaker that is W-L vs common opponents. The Zips would lose this one. The only common opponents outside the MAC I see in 2019 are Michigan State and Xavier. Akron is 1-1; WMU is 2-0. edit: I can't remember which tie-breaker comes after head-head. This W-L record v common opponents, goal differential in the MAC, or other. I have searched the MAC website, but I can't find the tie-breaking procedures. (They have likely changed recently.)

MAC Standings Akron, 3-0-1, 10 points, 9 GF, 4 GA: Goal Differential=5 WMU, 2-1-1, 7 points, 7 GF 5 GA: Goal Differential=2 SIUE, 2-1-1, 7 points NIU, 2-2, 6 points BGSU, 1-3, 3 points WVU, 0-0-1, 1 point Akron plays at WVU Thursday, Nov 7th at 7 pm EST SIUE plays WMU at 1 pm Saturday, Nov 9th at 1 pm EST Since SIUE & WMU play head to head, there cannot be a 3-way tie. In the case of a tie with SIUE, Akron wins the MAC regular season on head to head In the case of a tie with WMU, Akron & WMU tied 1-1 head to head; I think the next tiebreaker is goal differential which we currently lead. I can't find the tiebreaking procedures to verify, though.

I would like to hear others' opinions, but Oh, what I wouldn't give for a Morgan Hackworth or a Robby Dambrot --- that type of player who, when given his opportunity, works super hard to make a difference. What I saw at CSU last night had the feel of..."Hey we're Akron. We don't have to do anything but show up. CSU will just tremble and crumble before us." We had 3 starters out last night - Tojaga, Egbo, and Ritaccio - but did we see anyone who replaced them go out of his way to prove he deserves to be on the field? Some people have said to me that the message that seems to be sent to local players is "Don't come to Akron. You want play." That's garbage. This is D1 NCAA Soccer, and the upper echelon of it. You come to Akron, you better expect to work hard, or you won't see the field. You have to compete for your playing time. A player may have been the greatest at his high school or for his club, but when he comes to Akron, he had better be prepared to prove he belongs on the field representing the great history that goes with our jersey. What I saw last night looked like few in our jersey cared to be there. Sad.

17 Rowdies took the bus trip to Pitt this season. Those 17 Rowdies were louder than all of the Pitt fans in attendance, and made it feel like we were the home team. Nina and her group have been doing a great job. I hope they and many more Rowdies will car pool to Cleveland tomorrow and turn Krenzler into our home field ... Cleveland's 2nd First Energy Stadium.

I get it. Thanks all.

I understand what you're saying, and I don't think these were aimed at me, but this is a discussion forum, and I personally like the discussion and reading others' opinions whether or not I agree with them. No one is forced to read anyone else's posts. We all do so by choice. I haven't used it, but I believe members can use an option on this board to mute those whose posts they no longer wish to read. Of course, you can just not read them, too.

Where in the World is Larry Williams? What does he do?
Zip_ME87 replied to DannyHoke's topic in Other Sports
You’re right. We’ll give it some time. We have no choice anyway However, I see many similarities to 2010/11. RI was supposedly “building a foundation”, etc.; it quickly became quite obvious that he knew little about being a D1 head coach. I see many early, similar indicators. Ugh. Also, Larry has been at UA since 2015. Go back and read what his priorities were supposed to be concerning Football and Men’s Basketball. Little, if any, progress has been made in 4 years. In fact, Men’s Basketball has no doubt gone backward, not just on the court, but in number of season ticket holders and drama/bad publicity. -

semantics my friend. Fees for copying and mailing yes. I believe I said there should be no cost for providing an electronic file. also It is a public record which can be requested by any one. “It is not the school's prerogative as to whether or not the report is made available to the general public. If you mean, it is their prerogative as to whether they post it on a web page or not, that may be true. However, they do have to make it available.” By that I meant provide it upon request. -

Larry Williams has little if anything to do with the success of volleyball, swimming, or the upswing of Women's Soccer. The coaches of those programs were already in place when Larry arrived. Williams’ tenure has also produced six new head coaches, including Tom Arth (football), John Groce (men’s basketball), Melissa Jackson (women’s basketball), Chris Sabo (baseball), Christy Mitchell (women’s lacrosse), and Meaggan Pettipiece (softball). Source: GoZips.com, https://gozips.com/staff.aspx?staff=1 We're all waiting for this great step forward in football, the sport which Larry played and about which he should know the most and have the most connections. To date, we've not seen an inkling that it will happen any time soon. I will also say that I've seen student athletes cut from our teams for less transgressions than that which our Men's Basketball coach allegedly allowed to transpire earlier this year and which is back in the news. Larry is a nice guy, but this is business. He has not made any progress with the 2 teams on which the UA Athletics Department is most reliant for revenue generation. In fact, both have gone significantly backward and look to be worsening. When contracts expire, and results aren't there, it's time to look for new leadership. -
I hear you @72Roo However, Arth like RI1.0 may not be capable. As soon as contracts expire, those who squandered $650k+ to create this mess and who continue to make colossal hiring mistakes need to go. UA cannot afford to keep paying for these blunders. Students, who have no choice but to pay for this, and dedicated Akron Football alumni, fans, supporters do not deserve this nor does the university or community as a whole. This failure is a drag on the university and all of its great programs, academic and athletic.
