  1. No idea either. All of what I posted is information that I came across through social media. Best wishes to Mani, but I'm looking forward to finding out more about those who are joining the Zips, too.
  2. With the Spring Semester beginning on Monday, I wonder if we will soon thereafter get an update of the Men's Soccer roster. Mani Austmann transferred to UNC Greensboro. ... https://uncgspartans.com/news/2020/1/7/mens-soccer-mani-austmann.aspx GK Ricky Ceballos transferred to High Point ... Gabriel Ramos joining the Zips...
  3. For those who might be interested in supporting young soccer players' development and a trip to see DeAndre Yedlin and NUFC v Liverpool ... https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/watchyedlin2020sweeps ends February 7, 2020, I believe.
  4. Congratulations to Richie Laryea who has been called into Canadian MNT January (2020) camp. https://canadasoccer.com/canada-soccer-s-men-s-national-team-holds-january-camp-p162533
  5. Lest the writer forgets, 4+ years ago Caleb and Darlington won an MLS Cup together in Columbus for the Portland TimberFC. Let's get that MLS Cup for Columbus now!
  6. Thanks @TennZip. By the way, there is a 2020 thread, which seems more appropriate now.
  7. Congratulations Jon Lewis... https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2019/12/30/international-duty-update-lewis-vines-earn-call-usmnt-senior-camp ... The Rapids duo will report on January 5 to Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar. The camp will run through the end of the month and culminate with a friendly against Costa Rica in Southern California on February 1. Lewis, 22, was a late addition to Gregg Berhalter’s first USMNT camp in January 2019. He made his senior debut as he subbed on in a friendly against Panama on January 27, 2019. Since then, he has made five appearances for the senior team and notched two assists. The Plantation, Florida native recently spent time with the US U-23 squad, where he played in both games of the United International Football Festival, which saw the US fall 1-0 to Brazil, the 2016 Olympic champs, and claim a 4-0 victory over host nation United Gran Canaria. ...
  8. Curious ... Michael Obafemi's goal, Chelsea (no Zips), Southampton (no Zips) are related to the Zips in Pro Leagues how???
  9. ...98 games in the Premier League puts DeAndre Yedlin on the verge of joining a select group of Americans to have achieved the century mark in the English Premier League. Only three other field players besides DeAndre have started more than 30 games in a season (Geoff Cameron, Clint Dempsey x2 and Brian McBride x2). ... ... To me it is unreal how undervalued his accomplishments are. Regardless, he’ll continue to be a polarizing figure for his country. He’s a great player and with Reggie Cannon and Sergiño Dest pushing him at the right back position for the national team will be challenged for years to come. For club he’s battled for his career and doing some amazing things in the top flight league in the world. Cheers to DeAndre Yedlin as he hopefully rings in the new year with a century in the Premier League.

  14. This article is 2+ months old now, but I don't think anyone posted it previously. Nice to see 2 Zips, DeAndre Yedlin and Darlington Nagbe, rightfully included in this list. A dream 11 men's college soccer players active professionally DeAndre Yedlin – Akron (2011-12) In those two years, Yedlin appeared in each of the Zips’ 45 matches. The versatile wing back was a difficult matchup given his speed and thorough understanding of multiple positions. Yedlin tallied six assists in both years with Akron, helping the Zips to the third round of the NCAA tournament each time. He was a two-time All-MAC selection. Since turning pro, Yedlin became the first Zip to play for the United States Men’s National Team at the FIFA World Cup. That international attention prompted a move from the MLS to the English Premier League, where he currently plays for Newcastle United. Darlington Nagbe – Akron (2008-10) Nagbe began his career at Akron as a freshman beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. By the end of his junior year, the midfielder was the engine that drove Akron to its first-ever national championship. The Zips were at the pinnacle of college soccer during Nagbe’s tenure, going 62-4-7 in that stretch. Nagbe registered 57 points over his career, was twice named an All-American, in addition to three All-MAC nods, a place on the College Cup All-Tournament Team and the 2010 MAC Hermann Award He’s played the full extent of his professional career in the MLS. After seven seasons with the Portland Timbers, Nagbe was traded to Atlanta United. He’s won two MLS Cup titles, one with each club.

  16. 7 years after signing with the Columbus Crew following his sophomore season with the Zips, Wil Trapp graduated Magna Cum Laude today from The University of Akron (1:13:24 in the video). Congratulations fellow UA Alumnus, CrewSC Captain Trapp!
  17. while I agree with you about the corner kicks being an issue both on defense and offense, I’m also frustrated that we didn’t have someone this season who “had a nose for the goal”. How many open chances were missed? How many scoring opportunities were not taken? I attended every game, home and away, and this was absolutely the most frustrating season I can recall as to going for goal. Our midfield and forwards have to do better. Being one dimensional (Egbo) was easy for teams to shut down. oh how I wish that Jesus Perez would have stuck it out at Akron rather than going to UIC. He could have helped Akron and Akron could have helped him.
