Where in the World is Larry Williams? What does he do?
Zip_ME87 replied to DannyHoke's topic in Other Sports
I believe you are incorrect on 2 counts. As a State institution, it is not the school's prerogative as to whether or not the report is made available to the general public. If you mean, it is their prerogative as to whether they post it on a web page or not, that may be true. However, they do have to make it available. Also, I do not believe they can charge the public for said report. Under the State's open records law, I believe they must provide it upon request. As it is likely in electronic format, providing it should be zero or minimal cost to the institution. Very tired of paying taxes to institutions and individuals who don't feel they need to be transparent and account for their actions. -
I will also single out Pol Hernandez who has had a big upswing in the past few games. Starting the season on the bench, Pol has really come on strong. Keep that going Pol. Love what I'm seeing. Having Skye Harter back has been huge. Hopefully, Skye is getting healthier. As I said above the whole team looks more confident; the belief is building. Keep it going guys. I know you can beat any team out there when you're all working together. I've attended every game and know of what you all are capable. GO ZIPS!!!

I'm super happy for Will Jackson and Diogo Pacheco. Great to see Will get his first collegiate goal for the Zips, the one I believe he said he's been dreaming of since 3rd grade. Hopefully, the first of many to come. Confidence and composure Will. You've got the skills; let the belief set in. Great to see Pacheco healthy enough to get significant minutes and his first goal of the 2019. Well-deserved result of his hard work. Also, hopefully the first of many to come. Also, really happy for Chris Lue Young, who seems to be settling in very well at right back. His last few games have been excellent. Keep up that effort Chris!

I agree. Once our Zips got going, they looked confident and were distributing the ball well with good movement. Our GKs need to get past holding the ball too long or having to double touch when under pressure. Better to quickly get rid of the ball down the field, even if it goes out of bounds, than to risk a turnover like that last night in our penalty area. (Of course it happens to pros, too...2015 MLS Cup Final when Steve Clark allowed an easy goal by Diego Valeri / Portland Timbers.) Fortunately, last night team prevailed, and that ended up not being a costly error. I have confidence in Joe ... he will learn from that and move on.

https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/soccer/d1/men/2019-20D1MSO_PreChampsManual.pdf Page 14 starts the Conference Autobid info. Page 15 has the following: AT-LARGE SELECTION Twenty-four teams will be selected at-large. To be considered for the at-large selection process, a team must have an overall DI won-lost-tied record of .500 or better. I do not see the .500 or better criterion for the conference tourney winners. -

Well said @ZipsVoice although the first time you mentioned the match, you stated "...this Friday vs. BGSU". The match as you stated several additional times is SATURDAY, October 12th at 7 pm at FES, the same day that the 2009 Zips Men's Soccer Team is honored at the morning brunch as the "Team of Distinction". None of us are happy with the way this season has played out thus far, including the team, but that is past. As you said, the focus has to be on the MAC. All Zips Men's Soccer fans who can need to come out to the 3 MAC home games and get behind this team starting this Saturday. No excuses for our team; no excuses for us who support them. They need, appreciate, and respond to that support. Let's Go Zips!!! Let's get this done.

@UAZipster0305 ?? For your observations. I don’t know why anyone wants to cut off discussion. I’m happy to have you and anyone in the conversation. Just because we see flaws doesn’t mean we’re not fans or that we’ve given up. I too believe in this team and that they will finish strong. Focus one game at a time. Go Zips!

The best person with whom I've ever worked in UA Development. The one who actually listens to me rather than give me some b*llsh|t story about how Rob Ianello...yada yada yada... was building a foundation...yada yada yada.

The point I was trying to make is that I see no thinking in UA marketing as to how to use that name recognition from our Soccer Program. Don't tell me that some don't go to blOSU because of Buckeyes football. As far as my point about the new UA President, the Board of Trustees hires the UA President. The UA President then makes recommendations as to other personnel. If UA had an energetic, charismatic, big thinker in that position, he might make the changes in the Athletics Department of which you speak. I'm in agreement with you...nice people, but little/no results...same old story year after year.

I believe that the university doesn't benefit from the exposure as much as it could because no one who is in a position to take advantage of it does. Regardless of what non-soccer folks think, the sport is growing. Ohio has a new, outstanding MLS team in Cincinnati. Hopefully, when the new stadium opens in Columbus, we will see fans who rival those of LAFC, DC United, the Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, and FC Cincy (all places I've personally attended matches.) When I wear Akron gear to these games, someone always recognizes our program. As your signature says "think small be small". The UA Board of Trustees keeps hiring unenergetic, uncharasmatic small thinkers. I only use the lack of marketing around our soccer program as an example. I think I can say the same of the UA Engineering College. UA design teams, such as the racing teams or the Akronauts compete well, but I don't see that much exposure.

Met the new University President tonight. First impression was a big Zero. I felt like I met Rob Ianello for the first time, again, except this guy is in charge of the whole university, not just Football. Ugh! I fear for the Roo, I mean U. I hope I am wrong.

So happy for this team and for Daniel Strachan and Sammy Tojaga to get their first goals for the Zips! Also very happy to see all of the various Zips fans posting here. Love it!

I will be there as always, hoping and cheering for the new start to this season. I believe they will do it. I have never stopped believing in our team's abilities.

I’m surprised to hear from a coach that giving a 50, 60, 70, 80 percent effort on the field is supposed to equate to 100% from the fans. This is D1 Collegiate Soccer not grade school. There are no participation trophies here. College prepares one for life. Professionals don’t put up with less than 100% effort. One of our players apologized to me some time earlier this season. I told him that wasn’t necessary. I know this is hard, but at that time I saw the effort. Some bad calls / no calls from the referees also made winning difficult. I didn’t see that in the Cornell game. We were at home with a friendly crowd and no egregious calls effecting the outcome. I simply saw only about 15 minutes of Akron soccer. Other than that, Cornell dictated the game. Most of the rest of the match looked like the lack of effort seen in that golden goal corner kick. Winning will come when there is a winning effort, not whining.
-
That offers some clue as to who you might be. However, as a coach, I'm surprised that you don't get his reference to the unwise play in front of our own goal mouth. Slow passes in front of our own goal while under pressure that have often led to errant passes, turnovers, and potential scores for the competition. No question about the goal at Marshall. I was there. Great goal. First and only lead this season. But, as Jared has noted, this team has not been able to focus for a full 90 minutes.

Thank you. VCU tends to play the Zips tough and is 3-4-1 entering the Wednesday night match, coming off a 4-3 OT win at St Joseph. Akron is also VCU's 6th road match in a row; VCU is 2-2-1 thus far on their current road swing.
