    @ZipsVoice I don't disagree with you. I'm also happy to have all of our underclassmen players returning for 2019. As I've said, I think they will all benefit from at least another year in our system before turning pro. My point has always been and remains that we shouldn't look at it negatively when our underclassmen have the opportunity, and take it, to turn pro early. That is a reflection of the quality of our program and its players as well as a great recruiting tool. I can't understand not being excited about that even if we have to learn new names and faces from year-to-year as long as the results continue. Various numbers have been put out there for the 2018 season because I think a couple of our players may have left the team during the season. However, as I recall, the 2018 Fall Season began with 19 of 32 players being new (not with the 2017 Zips) and no doubt ended with a National Runner Up trophy...confirmation of the quality of our coaches and the players they recruit. Regardless of player turnover, and bumps along the way, our coaches and players work extremely hard and can compete with any other D-I program. Soccer continues to grow in the USA and Ohio...FC Cincinnati and a resurgence of the Crew, the team that built the first soccer-specific stadium in the USA and was one of the original MLS teams, is evidence of that. We currently have the best soccer team in NEO playing on our campus. I hope other UA alumni, friends, fans, etc., whether soccer fans or not, let others know what we have right here...see future professionals of all levels (USL, MLS, EPL, National teams [USA, Afghanistan, Thailand], other leagues in various parts of the world [e.g., Costa Rica, Europe, Thailand]) right here in Akron at a very reasonable price.

    Ohio roots touching multiple layers of Crew SC organization ...So whether it’s the Gahanna Boy (Trapp), the Zips’ Zen Master (Porter), the Wizard of Westerville (Bezbatchenko), and of course, The Edwards Family and The Haslam Family operating from Columbus and Cleveland, respectively (alliterations only run so far), Crew SC’s Ohio roots run vertically as the Black & Gold rise in pursuit of MLS Cup in the years to come. ...

Pass, move, pass, move — chase, chase, chase — thank you very much. The midfielders looked calm and controlled. The attackers oozed confidence, grace, and creativity. Their soccer made the heart sing. In his seven years at the University of Akron, Porter won an NCAA national championship and made northeast Ohio one of the stopping points for elite talent in America. The college game is… different from the professional level, no doubt. But regardless of the level, the Zips left a mark on anyone who watched them play. ...

Prior to his time in MLS, Porter, who holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “Pro” license, served as head coach of the University of Akron from 2006-2012. During that span, Porter compiled a record of 123-18-17, guiding Akron to one NCAA College Cup (2009), seven consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season Championships (2006-2012) and four MAC Tournament titles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012). Porter earned several honors during his tenure as Head Coach of the Zips, including National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Coach of the Year (2009), NSCAA All-Ohio Coach of the Year (2008, 2009, 2011) and MAC Coach of the Year (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). While head coach of the Zips, Porter also worked as the head coach of the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team from 2011-2012. Prior to that, he spent three years as an assistant coach on the U.S. U-18 National Team from 2009-2011, also while working for the Zips. ...
