  1. Boo hoo hoo... How about the Zips having a lightning delay, downpour, and swampy field at BGSU, as well as a bus breakdown yesterday (I think, if I understood Micaletto's Instagram story correctly) 20 minutes outside of Akron on their way to East Lansing. Basically had 1 day back in Akron on Sunday and then on the bus again Monday. Who had more rest?
  2. That's what I heard them say. I suspected if that was the case, we would see him late, if needed in a close game, which we did.
  3. Our coaches call him Dee - oh - go, which I found is the Portugal Portuguese pronunciation. Jee - oh -go, I believe is the Brazil Portuguese pronunciation. If you listen to the video that ZipsVoice posted, it sounds like he says Joke. Pacheco told me he likes to be called Pacheco...so, I've never asked him the proper pronunciation of Diogo.
  4. Sometime last season, I believe. I really don't follow the polls. RPI rules in men's soccer. This will be a very nice RPI bump. Way to go Zips.
  5. 7 2nd half fouls called on Zips. 0 on MSU. Definitely homered.
  6. Feels like we're getting homered this half.
  7. 1-0 good guys at HT. Good broadcast with knowledgeable announcers.
  8. Great announcers. Giving Akron its due. They really like Abdi Mohamed at RB. He's getting some good press if any scouts are watching.
  9. Current GauchoDan RPI rankings: Akron 99 Upcoming opponents Michigan St 20 WVU 60 Creighton 12 NIU 22 Notre Dame 5 SIUE 27 W Michigan 72
  10. I was at BG last night. The condition of the pitch was horrible, but the fact is the chances were there to score. None of our players stepped up to do so. I give credit to our defense under horrible conditions and a very slippery field, they never really allowed BG to seriously threaten.
  11. I'd add also, that I can't relate to anyone who is not excited about Akron having so many players in the pros. Yeah, they may have moved on from our pitch, but who will be next? how far will he go? The 2014 World Cup was beyond awesome having a former Akron player in the World Cup. If US Soccer would have had it's stuff together, we could have had Darlington and DeAndre in the 2018 WC. [Still no permanent coach!!! ] An Akron player in the English Premier League; Joao (2018) and Steve Zakuani (2009) being picked #1 overall in MLS Draft... "With the first pick in the 2018 [2009] MLS Super Draft, LAFC [the Seattle Sounders] select, from The University of Akron, defender Joao Moutinho [forward Steve Zakuani]" ... I still get chills (and tears) Portland Timbers (coaches Caleb Porter, Cameron Knowles, Pablo Moreira, players Darlington Nagbe, Ben Zemanski, and Michael Nanchoff) play the Columbus Crew (Wil Trapp) in Columbus for the 2015 MLS Cup and on and on ... GO ZIPS!!!
  12. Good points. Unfortunately, the one and done comes along with being successful. I don't know how you can fix that and continue to be successful. The potential/ability to go pro is what brings top recruits to our program. Without that I'm certain DeAndre and others would not have even considered Akron.
  13. So frustrating to see our team regress. I love and support every one of our players, but some of them I think need an attitude adjustment. I'm not good at confrontation, but I sure wanted to ask a few of them what they thought they were doing last night. Have they not bought into the system? Lackadaisical play, some unnecessarily long (off target) passes when nearer options were there, and not making use of the width of the field at times, among other breakdowns ... not Akron Soccer. And, I don't care where/how any of them previously played soccer, THIS IS AKRON, and our coaches have a system that has been very successful. Perhaps our players should take a long, contemplative look at those banners hanging in First Energy Stadium. They're not just there for decoration. They represent a justifiably proud program that's been extremely productive since 2007 thanks to a lot of hard work by a lot of dedicated players & staff and a successful system. Work hard, Buy into the system... Learn... Ask questions...but don't go out on the field with a half-hearted attitude thinking you know better than the coaches or your teammates who are playing the system and giving their all.

  19. Wow, that was a rough one but worth staying up to watch. Happy for the Zips... especially for Diogo Pacheco. Need to clean up some things, but faced with adversity, these guys continued to grind it out for a good win on the road.
  20. Golden Goal, hat trick Diogo Pacheco!!!
