  1. regardless of who is carrying the rock, coach I needs to eliminate the damned shotgun draw/too slow to develop inside running scheme. That never had a chance of working. Line up and smash it down their throats.word from the coach's mouth is that they are scrapping the spread offense.Hopefully DeVoe gets a chance with the new staff. He and JD used to butt heads.
  2. I just turned on the feed from 1350. As bad as it can sometimes be, I remember the headaches I went through with last years Buffalo game trying to get their video feed. I won't bother with that again.the feed isnt bad actually its the commentators who are horribe. i think im going to mute it an liten to the radio feed also.lol yeah this makes me realize how lucky we are to have Steve French.
  3. I'll be uninstalling it as soon as the game is complete.
  4. posting these here but can a mod merge the threads?

  6. 38-24 in favor of the good guys at the half. That lead is mostly due to the 14-0 run we had when the score was knotted up at 4's. Been a pretty average game for us otherwise. Ronnie Steward is getting some PT though. First I've seen of him. Looks quick and comfortable with the ball. I was also pleased to see an appearance by Rob Ianello during a timeout.
  7. Agreed, he would look good in a Red Devils uni ;)Sincerely,-MUFC Fan since I was a wee lad
  8. Thanks, Zach! I'm glad someone else is taking an interest in the upcoming futbol classes.I've mentioned Eriq Zavaleta, class of 2010, often. No verbal for him, could he be a 2011? Looking even FURTHER down the road, did you see the US Development Academy Friendlies over Thanksgiving weekend? That center back from Amherst, OH looks absolutely incredible. Andrew Souders --- he doesn't turn 16 till Feb 2010. First US Youth player from Brad Friedel's Premier Academy, apparently has gone over to Crew Academy, and is now in his first semester at Bradenton Residency.Check out the new (post-U-17 World Cup) Bradenton roster.http://www.socceramerica.com/index.cfm?fus...p;art_aid=34123heh, funny that you mention that soccer academy. It is actually built in my hometown of Lorain, OH but the kids are sent to neighboring Amherst for schooling. I hope to hear about kids from there considering Akron.
  9. +1 you need to post more often. Our soccer team is making a name for themselves and our school. We have something to be proud of and should be able to properly support the team the way they deserve.
  10. wow. For once I'd like to see people have some balls and give people awards who deserve them.
  11. Do they have penalty kicks in the pros? If so, he better hire someone to teach that aspect of the game. Nothing seems more important.PKs are only used in the MLS during the playoffs. Regular season ties count as one point in the standings (3 points for a win). This is typical world-wide for "group" play. If an MLS playoff series (one home, one away, the winner with the higher aggregate score) ends in a tie after the overtime period, then PKs decide the outcome. In general, whenever there is a single elimination tournament (the so-called "knock out stage" in the World Cup, Champions League etc), the specter of PKs deciding the champion lingers. As far as Caleb hiring someone for PKs, it should be noted that the Zips under his watch have been VERY successful (Bush etc.). And they just went 5 for 5 against UNC on Friday. Sure the 2 of 5 showing yesterday was well below acceptable, but don't forget UVa's staff had the advantage of watching and evaluating the Zips in this regard against UNC. It sucks that it happened at the most critical time, but these things happen in soccer. This was my first thought as well. But when two of the shots are not even on goal, it's hard to blame the failure on UVA possibly knowing our tendencies from Friday night. Holding them to 3of5 should have easily given us the win. Was it nerves? pressure? fatigue? We'll never know. One or a combination of all three, definitely. PKs are like shooting free throws. You need to perfect your technique. They aren't used nearly as often as free throws, though, so when the time comes and the pressure is immense it is very easy to mess your technique up. That was the case with Gavin. His approach yesterday was different than it normally would and he leaned back too much and it sailed on him. Kofi's shot was inches away from a near perfect shot. The best place for a PK is in the side netting. Nearly impossible for the keeper to reach. If you look at Ben Zemanski's PKs they were nearly textbook. Only thing that could have made them better is if they were higher but trying to place them higher runs you the risk of missing the goal completely.Back on-topic. I really think CP will be back next year. Now if he comes back next year and wins it then I can see him exploring his options. Once you've won the cup there's not much more you can do except set records, some of which are unobtainable.
  12. thank you for the history, Z.I.P.Clearly my youth has gotten the better of me. All I'm saying is I've grown up playing and being around soccer and for as long as I can remember, if you couldn't settle the game through overtime you went to PKs.RfR44, you have been an ass on this forum many times before and just like always you will never be wrong so I am going to let you be omniscient yet again. I never said I agree with the rules but I can't say I disagree with them either.I know in HS when we played our overtimes were not golden goal. But even then a winner was determined through PKs.
  13. You may be the only person in the world who thinks that.Penalty Kicks for a national title is just plain stupid...add on the whole mess on what's considered a tie and what's not bullcrap and it's no wonder this is the same NCAA that is responsible for the joke that is the BCS.I doubt I'm the only one. You have to understand that these guys run for 5-6 miles per 90 minutes. So even in extra time their bodies are being pushed. I understand they are in top shape but weather and general fatigue all play a part. People cramp up after 60 minutes sometimes. You can't just expect these guys to play for 150 or sometimes two minutes. Like I said earlier you might think PKs suck but after 150 minutes of hard back and forth play imagine how you would feel about a sloppy, cheap goal.Players wouldn't be THAT tired, it's called playing your heart out til the end. Besides there are plenty of players on each bench, and it would be far from sloppy. Someone mentioned removing a player from the field each overtime, that is the perfect solution as well. These guys are college athletes, i can easily expect them to play another 40-50 minutes like that, the better team would still win, period. Also, you are right. There are probably 2 of you that think that. You act like it's just a player's will that allows them to play forever. It's called physical limitations. How much do your baseball players run in an average game? Soccer is a different game than any other sport. Having depth isn't really that important except for injuries. Yes sure at the level of National Championship play both teams do have incredible depth but it is asinine to ask a player to come off the bench cold and play at the same level of play as everyone else. You guys all bitch about soccer being boring, yet PKs are about pitting your best players against their best players and seeing if they can score. These are direct shots on goal. That's action. Quit your bitching. If we had won 3-2 90% of you wouldn't be saying shit about the system. These rules have been in place forever. Deal with them.

  15. How many were there? I was late =/There weren't many signatures on the banner =[
  16. I have to work early but my current intentions are to be there.I'll be in a charcoal jacket and jeans and weather permitting, with my camera.
  17. The issue with playing until someone scores is a difficult one but I think PKs is the way to go. You have to understand the kind of shape these guys have to be in just to play for 110 minutes. If you think losing the game on PKs is bad imagine Virginia playing a long ball in and one of our defenders cramping up while trying to run after it and the UVa player chips it over Meves' head for the win after 200 minutes?I know most don't like to see us play 110 scoreless minutes and still get the loss but I know we wouldn't be feeling that way if we were on the other side of the "win".That being said, if the team is in fact going to be there at 10:30 I will try and head over with my camera. I am back at UA for the week.
  18. there is also a lot of talk about how we would not do as well against a tougher schedule and blah blah blah. Only the ones who have soccer knowledge are giving us due props. We did not concede a goal the entire tournament. Yes we didn't score this weekend but we outplayed both ACC teams we faced. I'd love to see us switch conferences. I wonder what it would take?
  19. he can move along the line all he wants but he can't come off the line until the ball is touched.
  20. oh my god. Blair Gavin. You can't hang your head after this loss.Welcome to Northeastern Ohio.
  21. Gavin is trying to will us to victory with his effort.
  22. first goal wins. I don't like UVa much. I've seen at least 4 tackles from behind where they were trying to go through the player instead of just going for the ball.Teal just had a great look on a Speas cross. Should have been the go ahead goal.
  23. 17 minutes left in the first half. Zips look pretty good. UVa has had some chances. As have we. Looks like both squads will have to earn their chances. Meves looks in top form today. The young announcer is a ridiculous homer for Virginia. I think he even said "we" in reference to them.
