  1. I remember reading an article around 2007-2008 timeframe on A&M's coach, forget who it was. His strategy was schedule easy, rack up Ws as they didn't use to be a winning program.. people will wonder if they're actually good or not, but it beats before when everyone knew they weren't. Then eventually move on to better recruits and opponents when you're seen as a winning program. Don't think he ever made it to step two, but it was interesting hearing it candidly like that from a coach. Wonder if KD will ever make it to step 2 at Duquesne

Then lets just talk about the recruits who came to OU right after their first NCAA Tournament "run" in 2010, since that covers the Groce era.  That experienced NCAA tournament group, along with their new recruits, did't even make it past the Quarterfinals in the MAC the following year, while Akron went all the way to the Title Game, and won.  In addition, when that core group of OU stars were Seniors, they got absolutely spanked by the Zips in the title game, playing without a point guard.

I'm addressing one thing here.  Your flawed assertion that winning in an NCAA tournament game is the overwhelming difference-maker in recruiting.

Skip they went to the damn Sweet Sixteen the year after that.

What I think really bothers me the most is the number of people who seem like they don't care how many games we win.  The problem with that philosophy is that you're far more likely to be a team that can have success in the MAC tournament, and the NCAA tournament if you are a team that has won a lot of games.

I think you're misunderstanding those of us that poke fun at the 21 game thing. Winning a lot of games is good. I want to win a lot of games against good teams, too.

If, at some point in the next year or so, we move on from Bowden, then maybe Getsy could get a look as our HC. Just a thought. Something that would make more sense, at least to me, would be to fire Milwee and bring Getsy in as OC and Assoc. Head Coach under Bowden. I know it can't happen this coming season obviously with him just getting hired at Miss St.

My point was I think Getsy probably made more as a GB WR coach than we could pay for an OC, and definitely more as a Miss State OC, so Getsy as an OC here was most likely never a possibility.

Thats the guy I was hoping would find his way back to Akron at some point.Oh well. Read somewhere a year ago that he was with the Packers in some 'quality control' gig I believe. Think he was at IUP for a while also. Western PA guy? Think you might see a noticeable improvement in QB play if you could bring a gut like him in here. He liked Akron enough to come here from Pitt with JD if I am not mistaken. Correct me if I am wrong.

I think that was the case. Thing is - Miss St. OC pays better than Green Bay WR coach, if I had to guess, while UA OC would not. So our only hope of bringing him back here would have been HC for the money to make sense for him.
