  1. That tells me that Wistrcill isn't very creative. What could have been done is that you let his mother's death become public, then you give him the final game off so he can be with his family, naming someone as the acting head coach to coach the team in his absence. Behind the scenes, he is told that he is fired. But as a PR move you wait until after the final game to announce his firing.
  2. What a show-cause means is that anybody who hires him just has to present a compelling argument to the NCAA on why they need to hire that person. If Can't could hire Senderoff with a show-cause, then we can hire Tressel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show-cause_penalty I smell a loophole. We need to hire Tressel before the NCAA sanctions him. But even if they do before we can get to him, we can keep him and eat some sanctions. I'm still of the opinion that a sanctioned Tressel is better for the program than any other coaching candidate we could come up with.
  3. It depends. Brookhart and Ianello were considered "up-and-comers". Hiring somebody like that is a major risk and it had better be a slam dunk.

  5. I think that may be the reason for all this. It's time for both sides to move on.
  6. Take this for what it's worth. This guy also called Ianello a "great coach", so he may not be very smart. Early names for akron job, luke fickell, pat narduzzi, eric wolford, carl pelini, and mike stoops. Interesting that this is essentially the exact same list of finalists we heard last time, minus Paul Winters. Will Wistrcill ignore the list once again and hire some random jackass out of the blue once more? As for the poll, I'm not asking who you want but who you believe would leave the program in the best shape at the end of their time here.
  7. You base your opinion on what? Fickell is tainted goods.
  8. If we hire Fickell I'm done with Zips football foever. And all of you will be too, because the program will be run so far into the ground it will pop out of the Indian Ocean as a ball of molten slag.
  9. CB Jahmal Pardner commits to Pittsburgh.
  10. UMass, the soon-to-be newest punching bag in the MAC, just fired their head coach after he lost three games in a row to end the season. They will be looking to make a splash with whoever they hire to lead them into the MAC era.
  11. I think both schools have to make a bid to host. I would have to think that Akron can put together a more enticing bid to the NCAA than Charlotte.
  12. WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to recover from multiple heart attacks.
  13. Nevermind. It takes waaay more of a powerful jinx for something like that to happen. You're off the hook, hippo.
  14. Way to jinx us.
  15. MATTOCKS!
  16. I was surprised to see a 3-to-1 margin in favor of firing Wistrcill way back then. I wonder if the ratio has changed for the better or worse since then.
  17. This is a team that lack leadership. The McClanahan, Nikola, Diggs, and Abreu need to step it up big-time in that department. Or let the young guys like Harney take over. There's not much team focus.
  18. Is anybody actually a fan of these things? They're popping up all over the place, like the little offspring of Tallmadge Circle and the the oval on Triplett by the Rubber Bowl.
  19. The early games are just getting started. Let's hope for some good results.
  20. Here's a fun stat: The last time Buffalo scored 50 points in a game was against Mansfield University back when they were a D-III school.
  21. I work in Marlington & there are 3 D-1 players on this years' team - 2 seniors, 1 junior. One senior is going to Michigan State, 1 is going to Tennessee and the junior has already committed to Michigan. Word on the street was none of them liked Fickell & Co. very much. Thought they were too pushy to get commitments and downright arrogant/mean-spirited when the kids were looking @ other schools. Just a rumor, but I'm sure there's some fire here. I'm willing to believe that. Kids and parents would overlook any recruiting "flaws" if it meant a chance to play for Tressel. But now that he's gone, things like this come under more scrutiny by the prospects. A similar effect happened with Ianello when he came here.
  22. I doubt that Wistrcill has the authority to fire or hire anyone right now. Just a hunch.
  23. No to Fickell. His recruiting ability has been destroyed thanks to this season.
  24. Let's make a list of our top 5 candidates. Here's mine: 1. Jim Tressel - Indianapolis Colts replay booth guy 2. Paul Winters - head coach at Wayne State 3. Mark Farley - head coach at Northern Iowa 4. K.C. Keeler - head coach at Delaware 5. Andy Coen - head coach at Lehigh I have no interest whatsoever in hiring a fourth-straight BCS assistant.
