  1. Seattle Sounders trade away their 1st round pick to Portland.
  2. Kitchen goes #3 to DC United officially.
  3. #1 pick is Salgado!!??
  4. Another quick confirmation on Moore. Even has a quote from him. Yes, it is cold up here, but take heart: at least the locker rooms at the Info are heated properly, unlike at the Rubber Bowl. He's already on campus and taking classes. He's also listed as the top JUCO QB in the country.
  5. About an hour until showtime. ESPN will be hosting a live chat to field fans' questions at 11:30. Be sure to stop in and talk to the "experts".
  6. Interestingly, ESPN Rise has a girl by the name of Karina Atkinson heading to the Zips. Perhaps there was a mix-up somewhere? Anyway, this incoming class looks solid. This year is supposed to be a re-building year, but I think the team can surprise the MAC.
  7. No, I don't agree with the question. The reason the SEC is good goes far beyond money to climate, population, culture, etc. Cheating going on in college football is like gambling going on in Casablanca. It goes on in the SEC...It goes on in the Big Ten....It goes on in the PAC 10...etc. It's going on everywhere and has been since the beginning of college athletics. The only difference is whether or not you get caught. The reason the SEC is so good is because of the practice of oversigning. The MAC needs to adapt this tactic until the NCAA closes the loophole.
  8. Zeke was as good as he could be while the refs harassed him.
  9. I was listening to 1350 before the game. Ken Carman was interviewing Ianello and then Wistrcill from the JAR in a countdown-to-tipoff style show. There were some interesting quotes from each of them, but I can't find a re-play of the show.
  10. The game will be played as scheduled.
  11. I wish I could find a better source to confirm this, but According to BigSoccer, Nagbe's agent has let it be known that his client has no intention of playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Whitecaps have the first pick in the draft. I thought he skipped the combine because he knew he was going as the top pick and so had nothing more to gain. Now things are looking fishy. Edit: Ives said that Nagbe doesn't want to go to Vancouver because it would impact his immigration status in the United States. If he eventually wants to play with the US Men's National Team, that would make sense.
  12. Who would he be showcasing? Seems like he's the best player on the team.
  13. Another former Glenville DB from the class of 2010 has had a falling-out with his new head coach. A little birdie told me that this is a situation worth keeping an eye on for Zips fans. His situation means that he can transfer without sitting out a year.
  14. +1 Totally agree. It's disappointing that it basically took the whole OOC schedule for the team to gel, but I think things are coming together very nicely. Everyone's developed well. I wouldn't call it "disappointing" that they took time to gel. I would call it "expected". Or maybe "unexpected" that they did it so quickly. The amount of roster turnover we saw meant it would take time for the new guys to get comfortable.
  15. Yeah. If we can upgrade speed on the lines without sacrificing too much size, we could dominate the line of scrimmage.
  16. http://sounders.sportspressnw.com/2011/01/...ron-experiment/ We can save college soccer. Turn it into what college basketball is for the NBA. But to do so involves converting the other college coaches to playing a style similar to ours. That's why us winning the College Cup is gaining more attention than usual in the soccer world: we proved that you can win while playing "attractive" soccer instead of "direct" soccer and still develop professional prospects.
  17. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology Right now, we're a 14 seed playing Notre Dame in Chicago.
  18. I ran into this article today again, more than a year later. Re-reading it, this quotes stood out. It seems obvious now, and it was to some of us from the beginning. He was supposed to be one of the best recruiters in the country, but now his recruiting classes are about average for a MAC school. The learning curve almost did lead to a dead end, but he pulled a win out of his @$$ at the last second to save the slightest bit of face.
  19. That landscaping exists because they ran into sandstone while digging in the northwest corner. It would be difficult to cut through the bedrock to put something else there. Pouring concrete over it would result in a situation like the Rubber Bowl where water gets in there and eats away at the base. I think platforms could be put up over top of them to provide more room to stand.
  20. The Zips will have the major advantage inside. OU is the top 3-shooting team in the MAC. Those two factors lead me to believe that we'll see lots of threes chucked up by the Bobcats. Perimeter defense is a key to this game. On offense, the Zips need to feed the ball inside and tear them apart. Guards need to drive to the hoop. Attack the rim very aggressively and rebound your own shots.
  21. We have 19 known recruits so far for 2011. There are 6 scholarships left to give. Aside from a Kicker, what positions do you think we need to fill or add depth to? Our roster is so depleted.
  22. That blasted Paterno!! The next time I see him, I'm going to spray oil on the grips of his walker! Heard the next kicker prospect on the list is from Cincinnati...guess we'll see what happens next. It's hard to predict. Apparently it's very difficult to find a kicker for the college level. Nevermind that it seems like every team in the country from the BCS all the way down to D-III can find one that is more consistent than ours were.
  23. Sports Illustrated's mock draft
  24. The Pro style requires both size and speed to execute. The Spread only requires speed, or at least takes the emphasis off of size. It's easier to recruit for a spread, because you can be as effective against defenses with less physical talent. It also allows players who do possess the size/speed to play in a Pro to shine even more. Right now we don't even have the size or speed to run a spread, much less a pro offense. So Ianello had better be as good of a recruiter as all his recruiting awards make him out to be, because it takes much more talent than is neccessary to be successful on offense in the MAC if you're running a Pro Style.
