Wow. As a part of his new contract, Coach Porter has received a 59% raise. He now makes $270k. That has to be one of the very top college soccer coaching contracts in the country.
-
New Can't coach is Darrel Hazel. Your program needs to move away from your Asst HC. I know him very well. He is not the person he comes across as. I have no axe to grind, but thetruth will set me free. The one from Georgetown?
-
Your link is a pay site. What are you saying here? I'm saying that a day after one of our recruits verbally committed, his scholarship offer was pulled.
-
Dayton is D-I for football, but they do not offer scholarships. They play in the Pioneer League. Duquesne plays in the NEC for football, which is moving towards allowing around 40 scholarships.
-
Let's see... WR coach, assistant HC, no playcalling or coordinator experience but is a great recruiter... I think we've seen what happens in this scenario.
-
You probably didn't follow this, but the Syracuse coach released far more players when he first arrived than was necessary to have a full recruiting class. By the start of his second season, he was down to around 50 scholarship players (Yes, the start of that second season, which began at the Info. We lost to a team that had less than an FCS teams worth of scholarships.). Why did he do it even after passing the max recruit limit for open scholarships? Because he wanted to weed out players who weren't performing to his expectations. This could be what Ianello's idea is here. Does anybody know if any more players left the team after the season ended? Or why we're even kicking players off the team who haven't even stepped on campus yet?
-
what did he get exonerated from? Whatever he did to get suspended. Not my words, but the AD's.
-
Sure, Brett McKnight got suspended (and exonerated) this season. Sure we have players break the rules occasionally. Every team has something like that over the course of the season. But it's getting to the point at a certain school where you're almost surprised if a felony isn't committed by mid-December. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...pended_aft.html

Until the Generation Adidas list comes out for underclassmen, we won't know who is staying and who is going.

Zach, I'm not sure you know exactly what you're talking about. I believe that Hartwick competes in Division I [Men's] soccer, but is D-III for everything else. Perhaps I don't understand what you mean by "The NCAA doesn't not allow split-divisional institutions any more." Perhaps you should check your facts, especially ones close to home [MAC], before making"old guy" comments to anyone. Certain schools are grandfathered in from before the divisions were set up. Hartwick is one of them.
-
Yes, it has sunk in. No, I do not better understand the implications. To demonstrate what a pioneer Akron is consider that we were competing in Division 1 soccer in the 1960s, years before you claim the division was created! All other Akron U (yes I said it) sports were in Division 2 at that time. I would be interested in knowing your definition of "very few." In the 1960s, there was the University Division and the College Division. Akron soccer competed in the University Division, other sports were in the College Division. The NCAA doesn not allow split-divisional institutions any more. D-I was created in 1973, along with D-II and D-III. D-I was created mostly from the University Division, and so kept the records. For an old guy, you sure don't know much about history.

Gallego, Trapp and Yedlin will all start as freshman. They wouldn't have come if they weren't. Nobody is guaranteed playing time. If they want to start as freshmen, they will have to earn it by beating out current players.

Maryland LB verbals to the Zips
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I guess the coaches listened to you guys. Seems that the recruiting staff pulled his offer after he committed to us. -
LB Jawan Poole appears to have decommitted from the Zips. Using the Google news preview of a Rivals article (under the sub-domain Scarlet Nation), it looks like we pulled his offer just a day after he verballed. We're nowhere near having a full class and it's not like we're seeing a bunch of blue-chip players commit to us, pushing out lesser talent or something. Does anybody have any information on what the deal is here?
-
Akron, born and raised.
-
It's been a week now since the Zips became NCAA champions. Has it sunk in for you? Do you better understand the implications? Very few schools outside the BCS have won a championship in any sport since the NCAA established Division I in 1973. This opens the door for us. Not many schools win just one championship, which means that winning one makes it more likely that you can win more in the future. Like some of the players said, this is important for more than just the men's Soccer program. It needs to inspire the other Zips teams to perform, and show them that it is possible to win as a Zip. The most immediate benefit would be for the Women's Soccer program, I would imagine, since they get the shared benefit of the stadium and the reputation of Akron as a "soccer school" to boost recruiting.

No official word yet on our OC John Latina moving to Pitt. If he really is gone, it's in our best interest to announce it and begin finding a replacement immediately. The less confusion our recruits have about who will be coaching them, the better. At any rate, here is the story of JD Brookhart.

Verballed to Syracuse.

Thinking about it and what I saw at the game today, I think the biggest impact McKnight has on the team is that he brings toughness to a team that often plays weaker than they should. McKnight isn't afraid to face down the other teams' big uglies, while most of our guys let themselves get pushed around. Hopefully the new guys learn something from him in that regard.
-
In just 10 minutes, Brett went 3-4 for 6 points, 2 rebounds, and a steal. But more importantly, as soon as he came in the game changed and we went on a run to tie the game after being down 14 when he first came in.
-
Dambrot appears to have softened his stance. McKnight won't start, but he might see some minutes if the situation is right.

I'm probably not the average fan, but I like to see what talent levels are at practice, who is working hard, who is getting yelled at, who is getting the bulk of the work, what plays are being run, what is being taught to whom. After gathering this information, it helps me enjoy the game when I attend, it gives me more things to watch. I enjoy watching specific players away from the ball to see how they are performing to see if they are helping or hurting the player with the ball. It also helps get me pumped about the upcoming season. It's also interesting to see who isn't there. Who left the team and if there are any new faces we didn't know about.

Straight from Clayton Moore's Facebook account, he will be an Akron Zip! Since he is signing in the early period for JUCO transfers, along with OL commit Vinnie Rizzo, he will enroll in January for the 2011 Spring semester and so be eligible for Spring practice and to play in the Spring Game.
-
You would be surprised how many teams come August will be sitting in film rooms watching some scragly video shot of their opening week's opponent's spring practices. When teams open up their practices to the public, it happens, and RI knows this because I'm sure they sent some GA's out in the spring when he was at ND. After all, Charlie Weis did come from the same coaching tree as Bill Belichick. Our opener is OSU. I wouldn't be surprised if their spring game was broadcast on the BTN in full HD from multiple angles, and all of the practices up to that point are open to the public with a $20 gate charge. Our coaches will have no problem getting film.

You know that the First Merit building will have a ZIPS written down it, like they had with the MVP earlier in the year.
