  1. Tennis easily beats Cinci and IUPUI today to move to 8-0.
  2. Akron plays the winner of this game on Wednesday at the Q.Score is 56-53 EMU with 4:45 left in the game.Listen live here
  3. The game is at 5:00 PM tomorrow inside CSU's Krenzler Dome.Is anybody going to this game? This is essentially the home game for this year's spring schedule thanks to the work on Lee Jackson Field.Does anybody know if the stands are covered by the dome? I don't want to drive up there only to find out that fans can't watch. Also, does CSU have parking in the area?
  4. Can't was not more athletic than Akron. They didn't jump higher or run faster. The difference in that game was discipline. Can't had it and Akron did not. They patiently waited for the Zips to play wild and make a mistake. Akron would chuck up a terrible shot when they should have passed, or they would pass to a defended player when they had an open look, or they would scramble around on defense ignoring their assignments. All Can't did was take advantage of the stupidity of the Akron players.I'm getting tired of these allegedly "high-energy" guys being brought in who can't slow down long enough to see that they're hurting the team. I'm also tired of the guys who throw lazy passes that get picked off because they're not focused on the game. Is it possible to play with lots of energy but be disciplined? That should be KD's biggest priority right now. Find a way to get the team under control without sacrificing too much energy.
  5. Singletipsy's rap sheet. Also, some good information. For Akron, Bardo couldn't practice on Wednesday because of his ankle and I don't expect to see him play tonight. But for Can't, Both Singletary and Sherman were out with knee injuries.
  6. Playing Malone didn't hurt the strength of schedule. SOS is only calculated against Division I teams. What really hurt the SOS was playing so many of the teams at home. I don't think that will be as much of a problem next season.
  7. YSU is worse than half the teams you listed. CSU is just average. Are they really an upgrade?
  8. If Akron wins, the Buffalo gets the #4 seed and Miami is #5. If Akron loses, then Miami gets the #4 seed and Buffalo is #5.This is according to a MAC official.
  9. I usually tend to get to the games when the doors open, one hour before game time. There's always a group of Rowdies waiting for the doors to unlock. They get down to their seats right away. It's usually 30 minutes or more before a single non-Rowdie student walks through the door. The fact is, almost 100% the dedicated students are Rowdies. There is no other amount of students that show up early or for every game. There is no other group of students that starts their own cheers or makes noise to attempt to affect the outcome of the game. People worry about the Rowdies being too exclusive, but I don't see other students beating down the doors to support their athletic teams. I don't see dozens of students asking the Rowdies how to get the wrist bands to sit down low.Are the Rowdies being exclusive, or are there just not that many students who care enough to inquire about getting better seats or going on road trips. Any student can join the Rowdies. There are no mandatory attendance requirements, no restrictions on non-traditional students, grad students, commuters, or anything. You walk up to the table, pay your $10 to get a shirt, and you're suddenly eligible for seats behind the baskets in the JAR and you get contacted about road trips for every sport and discounted tickets to the MAC tournament. It's not complicated, it's cheap, and all we ask is that you wear a cool t-shirt.There are well over one thousand AK-Rowdies, and hardly any of them wear the shirt. Then they complain that they can't sit down low or that the group is excluding them when they can't fulfill the one and only requirement.
  10. WMU beats Ball State 67-52, giving CMU the MAC West championship and the #2 seed in the tournament.
  11. CMU beats EMU 56-55.Ohio beats BG 82-60.
  12. It's to prevent any Can't students from getting down there.
  13. I like the idea, but I don't think it can be done. The AK-Rowdies are just a student organization, and doing this puts them on a pedestal compared to the other student orgs. There's already some animosity between the Rowdies and various other groups thanks to perceived favoritism and doing this plan would set off a major sh!tstorm. You would get people asking why the Student Samurai club or the Geology club can't do the same.A large percentage of the Rowdies' recruiting efforts are already focused on incoming students. They're at Orientation showing videos. The only thing they could possible do more is to seek out members of organized high school cheering sections and get them involved before graduation since they are the people most likely to join.
  14. Just checked. The Pistons/Cavs game is on ESPN from 7-9 followed by the Hornets/Spurs game.ESPN is really going after the NE Ohio market tomorrow, apparently. I'm willing to bet that the majority of people watching ESPN in Cleveland and Akron will be watching the Cavs game. But if we're lucky they'll flip over to our game during commercials.
  15. Ever walk around campus on a basketball gameday? The only clue that there's an actual game is the sign next to the JAR. 90% of the students don't even go near that area so they never see it. I would also hazard a guess that 70% of the students still think that they have to pay to get into the game. The athletic department could send out a mass e-mail on the day of the games. It's not expensive and it doesn't take up a lot of time to write if you develop a template to follow. It could also pound it into the students' heads that they can attend for FREE a Division I sporting event.
  16. I think you mean the south side. The North side is like 10 rowdies, 30 regular students, and a few recruits usually. Not to mention a couple NBA scouts on occasion.
  17. So according to Gozips.com, the Nigeria-born Balogun has just two years of eligibility remaining. Strange, since from what I have been able to gather, he has never played a college game. Another doff of the "Screw You" cap to (and from) the NCAA! Here you go, Michael. NCAA Michael BalogunI don't want to say too much, but he was ready to commit to another major soccer school before his NCAA paperwork got botched. In fact, he was in attendance at the College Cup in Cary, NC cheering for that other school.
  18. Look at football or soccer games. There are still cliques or just groups of friends standing together. The groups just happen to be next to each other instead of seperated by seats. If you're feeling isolated at basketball games it won't be any different in any other sporting event because people tend to socialize almost exclusively within their circle of friends.
  19. 2 out of 5 of the players on the floor. And what if the other 3 players are less athletic than Akron? Wouldn't that make them 20% less athletic than us?
  20. It's too late to change anything this year. Besides, TW hasn't even been here for a whole year yet so he hasn't had time to see how things work. I think you could make the student section the East chairs, and if it's a problem you could move the teams' benches to the other side.A unified student section exists for football games and soccer games, with every student able to sit there. You can do the same at the JAR. People join the Rowdies for the shirts and for the rewards that go along with it like organized road trips and early access to tickets. They'll still join without getting seats behind the baskets. And they'll still all sit together since they are the ones who get there early every game. But instead of being detached from the rest of the students they would form a strong core with all the other students around them.
  21. Wednesday at the Q. Akron vs. Buffalo/EMU at 6:00 PM (probably more like 7:00). I hope we can get a good crowd there. This team is good enough to challenge for the championship. They improve every game.
  22. I wonder how many tickets remain for the reserved seating. That's what never seems to fill up.
  23. A great win for the women, led by their two seniors on senior night. In their two years at Akron, the team has won more games than the combined four years before they arrived. They are a big part of the foundation for any future success. With the win, the team has clinched the 4th seed in the tournament and a first-round bye for the first time in program history. They have also set a record for the number of wins in a season.
  24. The CIT was discontinued, the last I heard.I preferred it over the CBT because it only took teams from conferences that had less than 50% of the teams in the NCAA tournament. It was basically a tournament of solid mid-majors.
  25. SeeTee, I feel more like you every losing season at Akron. That's another reason why our soccer program is rising by leaps and bounds. Next season, you may need a season ticket to get in the gate to see Porter's Prospects. Is there potential for men's futbol to be revenue neutral with a sold out stadium via season tickets? I'm not asking is it possible to sell out the season as season ticket packages .. what I'm asking, is there enough capacity at LJF that if you sold every seat for every game, would men's futbol pay for itself?Currently season tickets are $50 (great deal by the way, I only got to use mine once last year and still consider it a bargain). With 1500 seats thats $75,000 and thats not near enough to sustain the program when you consider the total budget (coaches salaries, scholarships, travel). Even if you sold out the entire new stadium at 4,000 seats that's only $200K which doesn't leave much after you pay Porter (who is worth it). So not likely the soccer program will ever be self sustaining. My guess is the only self sustaining program on campus is mens basketball. If the College Cup works anything like the basketball tournament, then the soccer team and the MAC should both get a nice chunk of money from that. I don't think it's possible for the soccer team to ever break even or make a profit, but making deep runs in the tournament every year will go a long way towards keeping it from being a money pit.
