  1. Bingo. There plenty of are tools to get around the filter, and you might even find some of them useful in other situations as well. http://tinyurl.com/
  2. Nearly two months later and Hartwick still doesn't have a coach. If they move down to D-III, the MAC as a soccer conference might be screwed. FAU is almost certainly looking for a conference closer to home, and if they get one the MAC loses its auto-bid for good, not just the probationary period that we saw this year. We need to look into joining either the Horizon, MVC, or C-USA in soccer. If Hartwick drops, the MAC and MVC could merge into a 12-team league.
  3. Tomorrow Akron plays a double-header against Michigan and Oakland. This is a good format for such a deep team. We could play different starters in each game. A Gold team and a Blue team. I hear that Oakland's soccer team is going through major turmoil right now, with possibly four players having been just kicked off the team.
  4. One crappy cellphone pic, coming up!
  5. Steve McNees has shown, as has Nicola, that he can slash to the basket quite effectively. Oh, and so can Humpty. The trick is to not have Steve droning at the point. But, I digress. Steve can either play the point, or he can slash. Very rarely has he done both at the same time. That's why getting a JUCO PG who can slash would be such a big deal. It improves two positions for the price of one scholarship. Getting a JUCO SG would cause all sorts of conflicts on the depth chart, though.
  6. A JUCO PG would allow McNeese to move back to the 2-spot. A PG that can slash is the kind of player that would put things over the top.
  7. Maybe. Or maybe it's because those dorms are the farthest away from any classrooms. Schools occasionally like to "punish" freshmen like that.
  8. Larry Dawson doesn't need the athletic scholarship. He is part of some deal through a local attorney that awards a number of scholarships to inner city kids. He goes to school for free as long as he maintains a 3.0 or better. I didn't know that. That's a cool program. But I really do wonder about the extra scholarship and any others that might open up over the course of spring practice. Looking at Rivals, there are some good recruits at positions we need help at who have yet to verbal to a school and have an offer from Akron. Could you be more specific for those of us who don't have a subscription to Rivals? What makes you think I have a subscription? I just used their advanced search page to find a list of uncommitted players with an Akron offer. search page For some reason I can't link directly to the results. 3* CB Brandon Brown 3* receiver Jonathan Aiken OL Taylor Miller JUCO DB Akeem Cunningham And more.

  10. You think that with Aaron Williams gone the coach will look to find someone to take up that scholarship? Or will they award it to a walk-on like Larry Dawson?
  11. His first move will likely be to replace Doug Martin. I think he'll have trouble at Can't. Laing kennedy was able to do what he did because he had the respect of their president. He could convince their president to approve of things that normally wouldn't happen with an anti-athletics person in charge like they have. Now Kennedy is being replaced with someone of the president's choosing, which could spell trouble for their programs.
  12. Michigan to install the 3-3-5 defense. Why doesn't this defense just go away from the college level? It doesn't work. As soon as one school drops it because they figure out that it sucks, some other school starts using it because the coach is desperate enough to try this gimmick.
  13. 3 new offers. OLB Cameron Lynch CB Tre Moore OLB Shaquille Petteway
  14. Nicely will win the starting position. I'll be shocked if he doesn't. Rodgers is enough of a threat running to use him in a wildcat formation occasionally, which also gives him playing time so he's better prepared in the event that Nicely goes down. But don't forget, we also have two recruits coming in with the ability to play QB.
  15. Randy Greenwood is moving from Safety to Corner. I think it's a more natural position for him.
  16. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/88964192.html Some good news and some bad news:
  17. Why did they fall out of the rankings if they never lost, and weren't even really challenged?
  18. I think they play somewhere in Stow.
  19. I wouldn't exactly call Butler a mid-major.
  20. I predict another losing season full of frustration and disappointment. Just like 90% of the earlier D-I seasons we've had at Akron.
  21. If the MAC is weaker, nothing changes. We're still a one-bid conference with the only hope of going dancing coming from winning the MAC tournament. If the MAC is stronger, there's still a chance that nothing changes as far as going dancing. To have a good chance at an at-large bid, the MAC would have to pass about seven other conferences. So, the MAC getting weaker with Akron staying the same would seem to give us a better chance of getting into the NCAA tournament, because if the MAC got stronger it means a harder time through the conference tournament but maybe not a better chance at an at-large bid unless the improvement is extremely dramatic.
  22. I don't see it happening unless he gets a good guarantee before signing.
  23. This kind of makes it more interesting. Their PG Stevie Taylor is a main target for the Zips class of 2011.
  24. ESPN profile. Same high school as Nate Linhart went to.
  25. Hitting clutch FTs down the stretch was a wonderful sight to me. That alley-oop brought the house down. Egner is the kind of player that develops best by getting actual playing time. I think if we redshirt him he'll never reach his potential. Hopefully one of the other recruits is the type of player who would benefit more from a year of practice and study.
