This policy will also be in place for the Indiana game. After that, I think they're just going to let you flush your Zipcard to get in, but if this is a success they might have to do it for the Can't State game because that's the one where the most students will show up.

Yep. I'm stuck wearing it for the next two weeks. :-/It's a great advertising tool, but it was surprising that it is non-removable. Still, I'm glad that there was a line for these, along with a line for GA tix. I hope that as much as it annoys us to have to wear these, we'll be glad we got them early because it sold out. I hope, anyway.

Bump. They're available for pick-up right now. The JAR is full of students looking to get their student wrist band. If you want to go to the game, and if you have friends that want to go, get them now. They won't last the week.

2009 CapitalOne Mascot of the Year
ZachTheZip replied to Baker's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
We're Akron. We have to earn things the hard way. Nothing is given to us. -
Don't sell Akron short like that. You really can't believe that he picked Akron over BG and Toledo?

Last year, if we had the offense that you guys are confident that we'll have this year, we would have likely had at least 9 wins and maybe more. Imagine not blowing the Temple, Bowling Green, and Ball State games and beating Cinci, Buffalo, and Ohio. Finishing off the Rubber Bowl era with the best season in history. But we didn't because of game-killing turnovers and epic collapses. We need to average at least 35 points on offense because we don't know how the defense will be. Can Jacq cut down on the fumbles and INTs that allow a team to gain the momentum to come from behind in the 4th and beat us (Cinci, Bowling Green, Buffalo)? Can he not go on INT sprees that keep us from ever having a chance (Temple, Ball State)? His job is to keep our defense off the field, not to put them out there with a short field to work with. I hope you guys are right. I hope Jacq and everybody else on the offense is supremely confident and is aiming to blow opponents away.

Lot 17 will not be used for gameday parking. It is being used right now for the construction crews. And the houses that you're concerned about have mostly been demolished to create the lot. There's pretty much nothing lest east of Spicer but greek houses these days.

My family and I talked to a few players and one of them mentioned that they were looking at a few other schools including OU, but that Akron's campus was nicer and easier to get around (OU is apparently too spaced out). He also mentioned the stadium was a big factor in his decision. GREAT job today though. VERY impressed with the stadium and how the event was run. It was fun just to walk around and the fact that they let you walk on the field was awesome. PUMPED FOR THE MORGAN STATE GAME! GO ZIPS!!!!Hey ill be honest with you, OU's campus is a bit less spaced out than Akron's. Especially with the parking situation this semester, that has made it not even close. But i'll be happy that this player thought that it was the case and came here because of it.I didn't think ANY campus could be less spaced out than UA's! I haven't walked around the OU campus so I can't comment, but the heart of UA's campus is really crammed in there as a result of the early days!It seems crammed in, until you get that one class that requires you to walk from Olin to the Polsky building in 15 minutes in a raging blizzard. Then it couldn't be any more spaced out.

It's game week!

http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/56121957.html Sounds like we got heard.

Did anybody ask the players whether they're going to beat Penn State?

He just verballed to OSU. Proof that winning is still more important than facilities (but the facilities do help a ton!).

http://www.cleveland.com/collegesports/pla....xml&coll=2He's confident, but I'm not. He looked great with the exception of three games, but those three games he was horrible. Until I see that he won't have lapses like that, I can't be confident in him.

I heard they ranked us #2.

You would think that the LA Harbor people would be better about that. I understand when some small-town high school guidance councilor screws up the process, but this is inexcusable.

The MAC most certainly is in a position to say "goodbye" to someone. We can dump one team and not lose the championship game. The MAC has all the bargaining chips when it comes to Temple. their football program is just becoming mildly respectable, and if they don't want to lose that by being dumped back to Independent status, they'll join in basketball. Then you can drop Can't.

http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/...n_michigan.htmlAn Akron-WMU MAC championship game would be great. Also,

The whole MAC should be "looking beyond the MAC". If there are schools that are satified with where this conference is right now, they need to drop down to 1-AA before they are forced by the NCAA citing a lack of commitment. If all the schools in the MAC were focusing on making themselves appealing to the BCS conferences, then you would have a conference like the MWC, and we wouldn't have to look elsewhere. But when only a few teams are doing it, you get dragged down.
-
Setting a minimum of 6 non-conference basketball home games would help you avoid some of the killer schedules that can hurt good MAC teams, while also providing more potential wins which increases league RPI more than the collective SOS does. You could do the same thing in football, to a lesser degree. Require at least 6 home games every other year, or even every three years. It is a minor change for most schools, but it could bring up the bottom of the league a bit.
-
Interesting that would even mention the possibility of leaving the MAC. My guess is that it was discussed during the interview process.

You know, it's funny. You look at the reaction around here and it's like he dropped a bombshell. Honestly, stuff like this should be standard for any new AD at any school. It just goes to show how much we were missing. It's the little things, the simple, easy to do things that we were missing. How much trouble do you think it was for him to take an elevator to the press tower with a cheap camera and talk for one minute? I bet he spent a whole five minutes (if even that) coming up with what he would say. My point is that there's so much that can be done for absolutely no cost, no effort, that go a long way towards creating a feeling of legitimacy when it comes to the athletic department and marketing, but they were things that either didn't happened, or were done half-assed in the past. I take this as a sign that this will be changing soon. Tom, please do your best to lay down a strong foundation for communicating to current fans and drawing in new fans, something that your eventual successor can maintain after you move on, whenever that may be.
-
It adds something that was missing. The press tower looked like a nice, beautiful, modern building but it also looked bland. Now hang a giant banner next to the observation window and we'll be good!
-
No surprises on offense.Andre Jones not doing any kickoff/punt returns surprises me. It's hard to imagine that we have at least four guys who can return better than he did last year.I assume that Bain is being listed as second string NT because of his injury, and that if he can heal he'll take over the starting role. The D-line overall is very deep and very young but experienced. Should be a major strength, barring more injuries.

Attendance will be up if only because people want to see the stadium for cheap (never mind that we've been giving out free tours and open houses all summer, these are the people that won't actively seek out any information until it's forced upon them).
