  1. http://ydr.inyork.com/ci_13256631A very nice story about what happened to the Zips' Deni Odofin and how he's fought back from a horrific car accident two years ago. That kind of physical and emotional trauma would have ended the football careers of most people.
  2. Zeke seems like a guy who is at his best when he's under the radar, which is probably difficult to achieve when you're a foot taller than anyone around you.
  3. That's an interesting thought. I'd think it may give them a psychological edge whenever we are visiting any MAC school. Our players are going to walk into the other MAC stadiums thinking, "Wow, this place sucks! We are so much more big time than these losers!"That would be the same psychological advantage they've had over us for years.
  4. Those of you going to the Barley House, make damned sure you cheer and let everybody there know who you are cheering for. Ignore the other game, maybe give them funny looks when they're cheering for something.
  5. The fact that they put this up on ZipsZone is great! This is the kind of stuff i hope to see more of.
  6. Keep discounting our running game. I think you all will be surprised at just how good it will be. If we had an inexperienced O-line I would be a bit concerned, but the running game will be very good.
  7. Taphouse works fine for me, but I live closer to there than to campus. Not sure where another location could be.
  8. I saw him in class today. He certainly passes the eyeball test. He's still a freshman, but I think we will have a star LB in the future. Hopefully he is ready to make an impact immediately. We sure could use a star LB against Penn State.
  9. I have news for you -- If Syracuse has a better coach and better discipline than the Zips...Syracuse will win on October 24th. Most MAC schools would be ecstatic to have any player on Syracuse's 2-deep. I think this Zips team is very well coached and disciplined. We will beat the Orange by at least 10.I should have been more clear. Syracuse has a better coach and are more disciplined than they were last year. Akron is still ahead of them on both counts.
  10. Akron is a better team, and Syracuse is a worse team. They might have a better coach and be more disciplined, but they have absolutely zero depth. By the time we play them, they'll be worn thin.I'm looking for a 21-point win at least.
  11. It's interesting that Paterno mentioned in his press conference that he thinks that we could come out with a 4-3 defense.
  12. This is the biggest game of the year. it's the only game against an opponent that any non-hardcore Zips fan around here cares about. This is our ONLY chance to create the kind of excitement over the program that can last for years. We don't play another game like this until OSU in 2011.
  13. Im not sure really. I think its because the general student populous never really knew what was going on over the JAR. They may have had a schedule, but for some reason students are less motivated to go to basketball games. Ill never understand why. Most of the time we're complaining about non-existant marketing, it's about basketball.
  14. Here's an interview with Walt Harris about the game.It would be interesting to see the reaction if this gets posted on the PSU forums.
  15. It's exciting that there is real talk of an arena getting built. I have to assume that it will go where the Mayflower is currently. That would make that quarter of downtown fairly solidly on-campus, surrounded on two sides by the Polsky building and parking deck.Wisconsin coming to the Q would be OK, but it would have to be marketed heavily. Maybe if we would make it a double-header with CSU or Can't playing some other high-profile team either before or afterwards, especially Can't because then we could show up and heckle them for 40 minutes which would make the trip that much better.
  16. PSU's Brandon Ware suffered a broken foot at practice on Monday and will be out 3-4 weeks.
  17. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/preview09/ne...cfpredictions09Rece Davis and Ivan Maisel picked Akron to win the East. Of course, the MAC East had the most wild variation of teams picked to win it out of all the conferences and divisions. It's the most wide-open division in football. Still, I think we're flying under the radar when we're being grouped with the rest of the East.
  18. There's no such thing as a good loss. Ever.
  19. It may be a way to "filter" the students that get in. Many of the hardcore fans were there early, and unfortunately they got surprised with these wrist bands. After the word spreads, though, it ensures that only the students who really want to go will get in, since the rest will wait and risk not getting in. It's a way of getting the 5,000 biggest Zips student-fans into the game, instead of having the more casual student section who won't cheer as much or who are only there to be at the opener. How's that for some spin?
  20. They might have sold out already.
  21. We're up to 4,051 fans on the Facebook app. I can't figure out where they list how we stack up against the MAC anymore, but I think we can get up to 5,000 this season at least.
  22. That's a terrible marketing strategy. Also, you could argue that we haven't really had football for the past 50 years, at least not football like almost every other team in division I-A.Actually, I was going to suggest adding them to the MAC. They're already averaging more attendance than half the schools in the league. Speaking of which, maybe I'll go stir up some conference expansion trouble on the MAC boards...
  23. I heard something about it being at the Tap House (formerly Scorchers on Waterloo).
  24. http://www.umkckangaroos.com/ViewArticle.d...TCLID=204784089Definitive proof that Zippy is the best kangaroo mascot.
