  1. A few of those could end up with decent attendance. I wonder if we get to keep concession money and some of the gate money, too. The best part is that this will bring out the community to campus.
  2. I like that he's using Youtube. I hope this doesn't end up like lots of our past marketing efforts: used once then ignored.
  3. Tom's job is to raise money and sell tickets for a few years to greate a large sustainable fanbase, then move on. Then we can get someone else in here who is able to either get us out of the MAC or transform it into somehting that we want, and then that guy moves on. It's at that point that we can go after a long-term guy who will keep us at the level we're moving towards currently.
  4. Now Scout.com is saying that Henderson will be joining the Zips in 2010. I hope he gets his academics sorted out.
  5. I heard that Chris Henderson is gone. He went back to Milford Academy.
  6. Until Akron is at the lever we want to be, there is no reason to go after a long-term guy whose job it is to maintain a program. We're still moving up and pushing forward, and so it is fitting to have an athletic director that reflects that.I think that after Tom leaves, we will have one or two more short-term guys that that work toward aggressive growth, and by that time we'll be ready for a guy to keep us where we want to be for many years.
  7. I have to say, as someone who grew up in the Akron area and seen what it does to people, I hope we never hire somebody who is very familiar with the area before coming here.
  8. Bobcats think they got him. ESPN has him going to OU, but everywhere else has him going to the Zips.
  9. This is why you never want to be picked by the media to win your division in the MAC. It's a jinx that has been working for almost a decade now.
  10. Scoutingohio.com says we recruited him as a Safety.
  11. Hey, somebody had to.
  12. I wonder who replaces him on the NCAA selection committee. And Dix is off campus. It's at least a half-mile from any other building at the university.Been there many times. All the land between buildings is owned by Can't State.Sou you;re saying that if we owned a swath of land from Buchtel Hall to the Rubber Bowl with nothing but trees and some roads, it would have been on campus?
  13. Alright Tom, there are two rules here: 1. Don't screw up what's already working. If you so much as hint at replacing Coach Dambrot, Coach Porter, or Coach Mitchell with one of "your guys" at this point in time, I hope that President Proenza threatens to fire you.2. It looks like you're just passing through and that this won't be a long-term relationship with the University. That's fine, but don't make the mistake of trying to ride the success that we're building without doing anything, yourself. It's up to you to engineer a large increase in attendance at our top sports. It's also up to you to find a way to replace what's left of our older athletic facilities like the soccer field and tennis courts, preferably by next season, so I hope you work fast.OK, so there's a third rule, too: When the NCAA inevitably tries to royally screw us over again, you make damned sure that the whole world knows about it and that you're working to make sure it doesn't happen again (even though they'll try)

  15. They're going to name the AD this week.I'm dissapointed by the lack of a finalist list.
  16. The blimp was floating around during today's open house.

  18. Barberton Campus opens its doors.
  19. Words of wisdom. I hope the future AD reads this post in its entirety.
  20. The hiring of Hunter is still a rumor. As we've seen with the Houston and Rutgers openings, the SOP is to release a short list of 3-5 finalists and then conduct a final set of interviews with them. This allows the search firm to shop around the guys who don't win by getting their names out there.
  21. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/54170222.htmlAllen and Martin still being used sparingly thanks to injuries. Also, the thing on TV about the stadium is going to be an Infomercial. I hope it's not lame.
  22. The university has been reborn, but the growth is only just beginning.

  24. I think they had an estimate for an enrollment increase caused by the Landscape for Learning. I guess we're reaching those numbers now. I think the university could probably hold up to 35,000 students as it currently is (including the dorms and parking deck being built) but any more than that and we would have to expand significantly. Besides, in order to cause an enrollment increase of that size UA would have to add some more major programs, or elevate one or more of our smaller departments to the level of the engineering/business/law schools. Or offer more graduate and doctoral programs, which would also raise our academic profile.
  25. UA enrollment expected to go up 7% up to 27,400 students.
