  1. Make that 28 players gone. Their top LB just left because he was "homesick". He was a JUCO.Akron should be able to run right over 'Cuse. Alex Allen getting 300 yards should be a possibility.
  2. Who says they won't be playing there? The Hoban SVSM game is being played there, as are several city-series games. I'm sure we'll also be hosting some playoff games.
  3. Cliff notes:A poster there starts a thread to coutdown until the Info home opener. Nobody replies to him for a day and a half, then other posters chime in about how nobody must care because of the lack of replies. A few people offer up some token interest, but not much. That's when I found the thread, wondering why high school football fans aren't excited to get out of the Rubber Bowl and into the best stadium in the state.
  4. Apparently you need to be logged in to view the forums there.
  5. Cool. You might make second string on our rifle team!
  6. What happens when somebody tries to shake Phil Tonga's hands?
  7. THAT gets the nomination? I must not be trying hard enough.Hmm... Here's something to top that: NCAA '10 complaints Can you believe the nerve of that videogame player? Maybe Akron's just a good team!
  8. It's easy to believe, when nobody says anything.
  9. Charlie played a decent game, going 7 for 12 for 80 yards and a TD. I hope he beats out Gradkowski for the spot on the roster.
  10. It's insulting, counter-productive, and a blatent grab for people outside the target demographic of the product.
  11. The thing is that Heisman isn't currently the face of another program. He's not out there doing everything he can to promote another school, one that he left Akron looking for "greener pastures".I can badmouth Tressel all I want. The more he gets involved in this stuff, the more Akron is viewed as a little school that he's patronizing because he has a token connection to it. It makes us look worse, blatently trying to cash in on somebody who's shouldn't even be thinking about us while he has another job. To think that this will create more Akron fans is absurd. Nobody will stat following Akron even casually, if anyting it will draw more people to OSU while putting Akron even more as a red-headed stepchild of a Big Ten school.I don't care if he cheers for the program or follows us or whatever. He needs to stop this. He can cheer for the Zips all he wants once he is retired and takes the nuts off his chest.
  12. Are there any inklings as to who the candidates might be? There could be over a hundred between the search firm and the people who directly contacted the school.
  13. Heisman is standing in front of old Buchtel Hall, and that picture was taken from the UA website. So Tressel graduated from Akron as a grad student. He was still only a position coach here.
  14. Associating the football program with Tressel does more harm than good. I'm glad he still like Akron since he left, but so long as he's an active head coach at another school, is name should not be thrown out there as someone who we look up to as an Akron greaty (positional coaches in general shouldn't go through this process, anyway). It feels like we're getting patronized, and I am sure the people that this move was designed to attract their attention also see it that way. It puts us below them. It's an active move by UA to put us beneath another school in some aspect, and that's fundamentally wrong.
  15. There's only one person I see going on tirades. Why should I give a rats ass what Jim Tressel has to say about Akron? So people have heard of him, this book is not for those people. It's for Akron fans, fans who know who Dennison was and what he did for the program.
  16. I have to think that a group of finalists should be named soon, possibly next week.Maybe it will be Jim Tressel, and then he can write more stuff in books about akron.
  17. So your incoming recruits are pretty good? I could say the same things about ours."Oh man, yeah we lost our RB but the guys we have replacing him are even better! Our D-line has just added two 4-star players and a monster JUCO. We have a secret weapon TE that just showed up on the roster. Almost every position lost to graduation is getting an upgrade, so we should be pretty good, and even much better than last year." See how easy that was? I just can't wait for football to actually start.
  18. I'll have to pick up this book at the bookstore next week.
  19. So you'd prefer more biased reporting? Guess you are a big FOX News watcher than. D'oh. :tomato:UN-biased. UNbiased.
  20. Rittenburg is a douche. He's the least biased writer on ESPN.com. I expect more people like him to pop up there over time, since ESPN bought the BCS.
  21. Last year had different circumstances. PSU's offense was great because they had a veteran O-line and the best group of receivers in school history. Those are both gone.Akrons' defense was bad because of injuries to the D-line forcing us to use our third string, and an inexperienced secondary. Both of those problems have been addressed, and possibly even overaddressed. It's a different set of circumstances, this year is a whole new ballgame for Akron.Paterno in his press conference said that he's sitting Wallace for one or two games. Either way, that puts him out for the Akron game.
  22. maybe I'm missing something but aren't they suppose to be contenders for the national title? I haven't been following this all as closely as I should so I would love to find out that I"m wrong if someone wants to prove me wrong I would be more than happy to listen and believe themDon't believe the hype. Akron's greatest strengths are matched up with PSU's biggest weaknesses.
  23. The more I read about Penn State, the better I like our chances. AJ Wallace will be sitting out for our game, for certain. Their kicking game is a question mark, and their offensive line is completely disorganized.
  24. As far as I can tell, the only Zip playing tonight is Charlie Frye for the Raiders at 10:00 against the Cowboys. It will be interesting to see where he shows up on the depth chart.
