Memorial Hall is the old Basketball arena that the JAR replaced. Carrol Hall was/is the building inbetween Memorial and Buchtel Hall. It has the marble pictures of greek philosophers above the doors.

i hope you guys wont be taking up the whole north end...that's prime heckling area. Go ZIPS and excuse my loudness tonight.I do believe that the south end is the prime heckling area. Maybe we can get something going back and forth between the Rowdies and Oldies tonight.
-
Heard they were starting the two freshmanThose two freshmen have the ability to be some of the best players on the team this year. They just need more playing time and experience, and tonight they'll get it.

Ced needed to be resting for a while now. He's hurt.I hadn't heard about Wood, but I am not suprosed considering that he is pretty much our only guy down low, and is constantly facing monster players with little to no help.

Injuries are really hurting us, but we're at home today. Now is the perfect chance to see who is able to step up their game. Bardo and C. McKnight will have their chance, and we all hope that they will make the most of it. I believe in willpower, and that having a strong will can overcome a lack of talent or experience. The seniors are pushing this team, and you can see their determination. You can also see the lack of it in many of our underclassmen. The home crowd is also able to push a team and keep them going, like we saw at the Ohio game. Tonight it's up to the home crowd to push our younger players. So if you can be at the game, clapping and the occasional cheer is not enough. We need to be intense, and hope that intensity gets reflected on the court.

Does this mean we have reached our scholarship limit? -
Aint happening. It would be nice to try and get some revenge on them for ruining our home winning streak, but ESPN won't go for a re-match.

Just saw this message appear on the University's Zipline student website: This is the first time I can remember them ever mentioning any sports at all on Zipline other than their generic calender which includes all events. Is this the start of some marketing program aimed at the students? If not, it should be. We always talk about building the fanbase, and many times it involved getting national attention or even mentions in neighboring cities. But the most important peices to the fan support puzzle are the students and the alumni. We can't possibly hope to build a strong athletics program without the support of those two groups. The best thing to happen to fan support might just be a concentrated marketing effort directed towards the students instead of the surrounding communitty.Either way, good luck Keyla. Let's hope that no only do you break the record for most 3-point shots taken, but also eventually the record for most three-point shots made.

I'll ask my younger brother, who is a senior at Hoban along with Will.

Central is very tough at home, but they don't stand a chance against a pissed off Zips squad. Just keep the emotions in check (no fighting), and we should come out of there with a win.I would be very worried about this game if we had won at Can't, but I'd rather lose at Can't than at CMU for RPI reasons. A loss to CMU would be devastating.

Not suprised, but Akron GETTING ABUSED!!!
ZachTheZip replied to Zip90's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
This is the same thing that happened to OU in Akron, and people on here were calling them cry babies when they questioned the refs for it... Not you GZ, I'm just saying...MAC Refs are bad. No, I take that back. They're not bad, they're TERRIBLE. Not just against us, not just against a specific team over the course of a season. They screw teams on a regular basis, but it's spread out. They have an agenda, and it's obvious that they want certain teams to win certain games. They may completely screw over a team one game, only to favor them by a ridiculous amount the next game. It has to stop. The only wasy to stop it is to go directly to Rick Chryst and complain. Even then, it may not do anything because of his incompetancy as head of the MAC. -

You might have just received your wish. According to Rasor's Blog, Deryn Bowser, a four-star JUCO Wide Receiver from LA, has just committed to the Zips. He's 6-3, 215 lbs, and runs a 4.5

Charged-up Zips await electric atmosphereOhio.com article.I'm pumped up for this one. We need lots of Akron fans there, and we need to be loud.
-
Rodgers is most likely the answer, and CJ at least has a year's worth of experience. If all else fails, we have three more QBs on the team, whom would be KC Patterson, Kade Wagner, and Jordan Miller. At least one of them has to be able to lead this team.

Just to Get in the K.e.n.t-Hating Mood
ZachTheZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The ZIPS are coming. They're just excited to have a sold-out game this season, is all. -
Does this mean we get 6 home games, or only 5? I guess it depends on how the MAC schedule works out.

ALL students get in FOR FREE. We have free pizza for everyone before certain games. It is only $10 for a Rowdies membership which gets you a t-shirt, Rowdie Rag, and what essentially amounts to courtside season tickets. You get free trips to some away games, and discounted tickets to watch the game at Can't. What else could you possibly want? Have a deal like that at almost any other school and you would have lines wrapped around the building to get in on it.Weekend games draw less not because students go home; there are at least 10,000 living on or very near campus, and we can't get 225 (the max seats once you factor in the band) to show up. Most are out at parties. What needs to happen is to create a party atmosphere within the JAR. Go to a few games and you see that besides the on-court action, there isn't much happening. Yeah the cheerleaders throw t-shirts and we have the dance team. Occasionally we get a good halftime show, too. The thing is, the people there don't seem all that interested in it. Especially the many many senior citizens that show up to the games. Nothing against them, I'm glad they care enough to support the team, but it creates a boring atmosphere. The fans have to create the party, there's only so much the production guys can do. When you're there you NEED to be wild. This goes for both students and alumni. You need to be passionate about your Zips. Show your emotions, don't just sit there and clap a few times when something good happens. Stand up and cheer after a dunk. I realise that we're all walking a thin line between wanting more people to show up and chastising the ones who actually DO show up, but something needs to happen, and it starts with being able to awaken the fans. They're a slumbering giant for the most part. You've seen the JAR rocking with nearly packed houses where everybody is screaming and jumping and going nuts. It needs to be like that most of the time. The OU game was a good example of an incredibly intense crowd. The BG game was a blowout, but the crowd kept the team awake by refusing to let up even when we were winning by 40+. We're starting to "get it", but there's a long way to go.
-
This is such a blowout that Dambrot put in B. McKnight and D. Robberts in 6 minutes into the game. The result has been an incredible game so far, played mostly by the bench. This is just the experience and confidence boost our younger and underdeveloped players need before heading to Can't.

The Medina "Campus" has opened and already has classes.http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/13929497.htmlThis is a good thing. Medina is one of the fastest growing counties in the country, and now we have a "campus" in the heart of it. It is hoped that this will get people started on the path to a degree that wouldn't have attempted it before.

It will be on Zips Zone.

Can't State @ OU on ESPN Classic
ZachTheZip replied to Bleacher Bum's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I hope he misses our game, which is the next one they play. That would be an extraordinary break for us. Way to stay classy, Can't. They had 3 Technicals called near the end of the game. -
It's going to take a strong contigent of Akron fans to be there and to be maniacaly loud. We need the type of fans that we had at the OU game. The ones that can drive a team foward when they're not doing well.
-
That win moved us to #70 in the RPI. We finished last year at #66. Beat BGSU and then beat Can't before we play the west, and we'll be in a much better position than last year. Plus we get to play Miami, Ohio, and Can't another time to help out SOS out a bit after it takes a hit from playing the pathetic West.
