  1. I think there are only one or two scholarships that are not currently filled, using just the players that we know for certain. You can have 85 scholarship players and 20 walk-ons for a 105-man roster. When Bowden was talking about having more players to get to a complete roster, he was likely referencing preferred walk-ons, who are guaranteed a roster spot. Using just the players we know, We're at around 100 taken roster spots with a couple that will go toward incoming transfers, leaving two to four open to allow for try-outs. Everything adds up, and nobody should be worried. We had exactly as many recruits as we were able to take in this class.
  2. I don't know the specifics, but the scholarships still come out of the 2014 class.
  3. Depends on how insistent the Rubber Bowl owners were when this league was coming together. Did they push to get in? Did they even know about it?
  4. Off the top of my head: DT Se'Von Pittman - transfer WR Anthony Lauro - greyshirt LB Jerome Lane - greyshirt LB Deon'Tae Moore - greyshirt DT Lavonne Gauthney - greyshirt Possibly OL Curtis Black, who is still hanging around from the 2012 class but hasn't made it onto the roster yet. Couldn't say who the rest are.
  5. Zeke had a pretty good game today in Canton. 9 points (shot 3 of 3 from the floor and was 3 of 4 from the line), 5 boards (3 off, 2 def), 3 blocks, and 2 assists in 19 minutes. Here's the replay:
  6. Considering Jake's current shooting slump, I'm guessing it was his shooting hand. The past few games, we've been shooting much better from the line. I know that it's been a point of emphasis in practice for a few weeks now. Seems to be paying off.
  7. http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/university-of-akron-proposes-end-to-55-degree-programs-1.464349 It's been over twenty years since the last time UA did an evaluation like this. It's long overdue.
  8. New seating is probably the biggest thing that could be done to help modernize the JAR. An HD scoreboard along with replacing the non-functioning stat boards with ribbonboards is the other big thing. Aside from that, rearranging how fans get to their seats would help, such as allowing people with lower bowl seats to enter from the ground floor, enforcing student seating instead of allowing them to scatter around the GA seats, closing off the upper north bleachers on low-attendance days (helps the crowd look better on TV) would all help. One out-of-the-box idea I have is to make the student entrance go through the "walkway to nowhere" that used to connect to Memorial Hall. It's closer to where the students are coming from, it's visible to campus and seeing a line there for big games would create some buzz among students (seeing other students gathering and being excited for something helps create more excitement, while tucking the student entrance away in a back corner of campus does the opposite), and it allows for an enforceable student seating arrangement, by only letting them go into the south bleachers (the walkway towards GA can be roped off to prevent students and GA from mixing). Best part is, it doesn't cost anything to implement and dramatically improves the gameday atmosphere. All of this can be done for less than the cost of a practice facility. The JAR can be so much better than it is. There's a lot of potential there, but it takes looking beyond the current situation to see it.
  9. And here are the standings again, golf style (road win is a birdie, home loss a bogey). It's a good indication of where teams really stand since teams have played different numbers of home and road games. Akron -3 Toledo -2 Buffalo -1 WMU -1 Ohio -1 Miami -1 EMU -0- NIU -0- BGSU +1 Can't +2 CMU +3 BSU +3
  10. So I guess that on the radio broadcast of the game last night, Wistrcill mentioned building a basketball practice facility as a possibility. Pretty sure we would be the only team in the MAC with one, if true. I'd rather see the money go into getting better seating for the JAR, personally. Still, the recruiting advantage that a nice practice facility should bring to the program is an exciting thought.
  11. So, how 'bout that officiating...
  12. Exact same situation as me. I probably would have stuck with TWC if I didn't lose my connection for several hours every week.
  13. So, 13 new players have signed today. One more is hopefully going to sign in the near future. Add to that at least four greyshirts from the previous class (and subtract one that's sitting out until next year) and some incoming transfers. This class might be small, but it has some big time players in it. In my mind, the highlights of the class are Chandler Kincade, Newman Williams, Anthony Clark, and Brock Boxen. The four greyshirts that I know of are WR Anthony Lauro, LB Jerome Lane, LB Deon’Tae Moore, and DT Lavonne Gauthney. There might be one or two more. We know Se'von Pittman should become eligible this season. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a couple 5th year transfers come in later on.
  14. Yep. And if there's too much there, at the very bottom of the page is a link for "Mark Community Read" to clear the active topics, so the next time you click it you'll only see new posts.
  15. Yes, the focus was clearly on the defense with this class.
  16. His academics are out of whack because he transferred to Orrville after the "incident" at Rittman.
  17. WR Blake Dennis signed, and is expected to enroll in Jan 2015.
  18. Quick summary of who has signed: QB Chandler Kincade OL Kyle Ritz OL Scott Boyett DL Anthony Clark DL Undrea Bullard DL Brock Boxen LB Newman Williams S Jamal Baggett DB Jason Williams CB Kris Givens
  19. No info to be found on Bullard. Looks like we stole Jason Williams from Western Kentucky.
  20. With the weather being what it is, I do not see a large crowd for this game.
  21. Austin Cull is heading to Urbana College. If any of the others are announced tomorrow, it means we have lost even more commits. I look forward to not hearing any of these names tomorrow.
  22. The A-11 spring football league is announcing themselves to the world on Thursday. Rumors that Akron will have one of the teams.
  23. Interesting news about Dennis. He should still be announced with this year's class, like we did with last year's greyshirts.
