Basketball-wise it looks like a good hire. Ohio is a mess with regards to team chemistry and player attitudes, though, and I don't know if this coach can do anything to fix that except blow it up and start over with his own players.

How's this: they get paid, but don't get scholarships. How many players would blow their money on tattoos and not be able to pay their tuition by their second semester? Heck, Akron's football players do this now with their meager stipend and then complain about how they should get paid. Maybe if they didn't get $200 tattoos every time their scholarship checks come in, they wouldn't be broke.

I'm not implying it. I'm stating it. They're in the exact same boat as the MAC, in regards to football and every sport but basketball, and they're losing Louisville so even that will take a major step back. Only difference is, they still spend like they're in the BCS, only now they don't have any BCS money to keep them going. They'll have major financial issues within two years. Temple was the first victim, having to cut seven sports this year. Others will follow in the near future. They can't sustain what they're doing.

You need to not lump in the AAC with the real power conferences.

So where do you suggest we move to? How do you suggest we make that move? Aside from maybe the Sun Belt, no conference would take Akron right now, and without significant investment in every facet of athletics nobody will want Akron in the future. So, how do you improve our situation so another conference wants Akron when the best way to improve our situation is to move to another conference?

And I haven't seen anything suggesting a potential cost beyond some professors finding the next thing for them to whine about. If it wasn't Tressel, they'd complain about something else. That's what they do.

Heck of a way to start off conference play, with a series sweep in dominating fashion.

Does a successful CEO need to have the same kinds of skills as the majority of his workforce? No. He needs to have the kind of skills that make a good CEO. It's the provost's and deans' jobs to make the academic side of things work. It's the president's job to make sure they are doing their jobs. It's the difference between managing people and managing a system. The president has many things on his plate. Fundraising, campus development, outreach, marketing, long-term planning, and so on. What does a life-long professor know about any of those things?

EMU was rated higher than Akron last season, though I don't think they played each other. To take the series from them is a good sign.

After letting Purdue get out to a 20-5 start, the Zips started fighting back and outscored them 29-26 the rest of the first half. Likely a case of nerves and getting caught up in all the pre-game stuff from the past few days. They'll look better in the second half.

Not surprised that his application doesn't say much. What's he going to tell the Trustees that they don't already know about him? Unlike most of the candidates, he's already been vetted and they already know how he operates and what his philosophy and vision are.
