  1. Speaking at teacher of the year celebration.
  2. Ahhhh, that makes sense. Thanks for the correction. I remember the after game tailgate celebration consisted of two cars in the entire lot.
  3. Im getting Déjà vu all over again. 2005, on black Friday the Zips played Ken+ on ESPN and wore alternate uniforms. We clinched the east that day, and went on to win the MAC. Attendance was...(cough cough) sparse, to say the least.
  4. It even happens in SEC games. I don't know if anybody got to see "The Book of Manning" on ESPN recently. Well done IMO. I wasn't born yet, but my favorite story was Archie Manning breaking his arm in the 1970 season at Ol Miss. He casted it and played. They showed film of him rushing for a TD, breaking tackles. Awesome. I appreciate anybody playing through pain. It happens pretty often in contact sports. Look up hockey players playing through injuries if you really want to be amazed. Book of Manning (YouTube) (start at the 24 minute mark if you want to watch Archie play with a broken arm)
  5. Bowden talked to his father, the legendary Bobby Bowden, the former Florida State coach. The theme of the conversation was: What do you do when you don't know what do to do? Bobby Bowden once reached out to another legend -- Bear Bryant -- for advice in that kind of losing situation. "Love 'em up," Bryant told the elder Bowden. And those words were passed along to his son. "That's what we did," said Bowden. "Instead of beating 'em up, we loved 'em up." The next day at practice, Bowden had the linebackers try to kick field goals. And he had the defensive backs punt. Linemen played quarterback. "Everyone played out of position," he said. "We got a lot of laughs out of it, and we also taped it." As the players watched the video, there were more laughs. Then Bowden said, "You know what this proves? You can't play someone else's position. So do your own job well." "I'm 57," said Bowden. "Like Frank, I've been at the top level. I'm at the stage of my life where I want to build a program at Akron. It's not about getting another job or anything like that. I'll never even be the winningest coach in my family." Full Story by Terry Pluto
  6. Not that it matters, but the financial upkeep of the Rubber Bowl was becoming a burden. If we waited to become a good program first, we would still be sinking money into that pit. The JAR is not in such dire condition. Hopefully in two years this conversation will seem trivial, and we will all be complaining about the new ticket cost due to supply and demand...."It took me a half hour after the game to get out of Lot 9 because of the traffic, what can be done?"
  7. I love Rian's game. I hope there are more of his type of player in the MAC this year.
  8. In this case, I don't buy it. He ran for an eight yard first down without a noticeable issue. It's football, everybody is banged up this time of year in one way or another. Hopefully he steps it up in practice given the extra time before UMass.
  9. Precisely. KP needs to work on his progressions.
  10. Nice job on the stabilization. Audio was a little low. If you get a chance this week, can you ask KP if his "injury" is limiting him in any way on the field?
  11. Found out last night from a reliable source, that this play was designed to go to #11. Finally somebody beat this crappy UM team.
  12. Ken+'s qb play made the defensive game plan easy. I was disappointed to see Archer release into his passing routes so easily when lined up in the slot. I'm amazed that his receiving numbers weren't off the charts. Every time that guy was underneath the coverage (which he was a lot) I would have the ball in his hands. I'll give the qb credit for one thing, he stepped up in the pocket to avoid our outside pressure multiple times. I'm disappointed we didn't attack the A and B gaps more often in 3rd and long. Ken+ is a bad team right now. I'm excited for any win over Ken+, but we should have stomped that team.
  13. Taiwan!?!? I might have a LONG talk with my agent.
  14. That is exactly what I will be evaluating the first time I am at a game...if he is playing. Possibly Dec 7th or 18th. For sure Jan 2nd.
  15. The Most Important Tree in Akron Keeps Growing by RYAN ISLEY on NOVEMBER 1, 2013 It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No – it’s Tree! If you are driving around Akron, don’t be surprised to see the face of Demetrius “Tree” Treadwell when you pass by billboards throughout the city. It’s just part of the University of Akron’s “Back the Zips” campaign for the 2013-14 basketball season. But don’t worry – while the 6-foot-7 senior forward likes the idea of the campaign, he doesn’t see that as added pressure heading into the season. “It’s a really good feeling, a really good honor. When I saw it, I was like ‘that’s me’,” Treadwell said at Zips media day. “I really don’t feel like there is any pressure besides handling myself day in and day out and being the best person I can be.” Continue reading by clicking here
  16. Overcast with possible rain showers Saturday. High of 48. Key to the game: Stop Ken+ running the ball, make them pass. I wonder how Dri's ankle is? He only had five carries last week. Ten carries the week before. He is still averaging over seven yards a carry on a bum ankle.
  17. Florentijn Hofman, a dutch artist, recently displayed a forty foot rubber duck in Pittsburgh. Maybe Akron can contact him. Here are 17 photos.
  18. NOW, I'm pumped for the game! (couldn't find a smiley with a hoodie smoking a cigar)
  19. I like this score, if we score first. If they score first I'll 24-20 Zips. PS So far, not one member has picked the Zips to lose, including me.
  20. Predict your score below. Always remember what's
  21. I do, I watch the games.
  22. Thank you! Thrush. That's it. Intial poll results not good. Can't wait to hear at the stadium.
  23. I stopped by a tv at a party that had the PSU game on Saturday night. There does not seem to be holding in the little 10. I remember that from the UM game. Zips didn't get called for holding in the first half, as I spotted it multiple times. Mac refs throw too many flags for too many things that don't effect the play. They ruin the entertainment value for fans. Little ten refs do a better job of holding onto flags. Steve made me laugh when referring to the refs the second half of the Ball State game. CK's sig reminds me...Ex Ken+ "attendee", alienates his only fans.
  24. BREAKTHROO, I like it. I might have went gold on the ROO, but still well done.
