For the first time this season, I'm starting to question the "truth." I was hoping he would progress more, and become comfortable running coach Bowden's offense. He continues to run plays into the teeth of the defense. I would love him to audible out of some bad plays that kill drives. He needs to throw multiple inside slant passes in practice until he can consistently deliver that play on time. He throws a nice go route, we need to take advantage of that more. Time to step up this week, or consider another option.1. BSU has a very good offensive line. 2. Wenning is the best QB in the MAC. 3. Sneed is a future NFL player. 4. I was extremely puzzled when the JC7’s attempt to go over the top on 4th and short wasn’t at least reviewed. 5. The Cards defense is not very good. This will hurt them against NIU. 6. The student attendance, coming off the 1st road win in 5 years, reached an all-time low. 7. As CK stated beforehand, the Zips need to improve in the red zone and that remains the case. The final score should have been closer. 8. After incurring the wrath of Zipsnation for much of the season, JC7 has turned in 2 pretty nice games in a row. Hopefully, he can make it a trifecta. 9. I’d like to see more screens or safety valves involved when the defense is loading up for the rush on obvious passing situations. 10. KP16 was obviously too inconsistent with his passing, but his ankle looks the best it has since he hurt it against UCF. The read option has become a nice little weapon with him back at nearly 100%. -
Agreed. But I would add "outside of the MAC" to the end of your sentence.BTW -- ex-MAC coach Doug Graber was pretty good -- but Reghi should stick to basketball. -
488 Thanks, that was fun to follow. Wenning is the the real deal.I'll go 400, which is a good 150 less than their combined averages. -
That was the longest of his career...and untouched.65 yards against Ball State. -
Not worth it's own thread, but I found this interesting. This weeks ESPN the Magazine features LeBron, and has an headline article entitled "The Lost Stories of LBJ." Interesting in-depth article worth the read for non haters. The second part of the story focuses on the relationship and paths of LBJ and Maurice Clarett. The end of this section reads:
But while the NFL may not want Clarett as a player, the league did have him address this summer's rookie symposium in Aurora, Ohio. Colleges pay to hear him speak. And in August, he heard from Romeo Travis, a member of LeBron's inner circle. He asked if Clarett could counsel Alex Abreu, a guard at Akron, where LeBron's old St. Vincent–St. Mary coach, Keith Dambrot, is the head man. Abreu pleaded guilty in June to one count of felony drug trafficking. The 22-year-old, who is no longer enrolled at Akron, needed to comprehend that his path was running closer to Clarett's than to LeBron's.

I was originally thinking the rain or cold would not effect passing yards. I have made that mistake one too many times in fantasy football predictions. Wind IS an issue. It's gusting pretty good this morning. Otherwise it's a pretty nice October Ohio day. Sunny and 45 degrees. I'll still take the OVER.I'll go 400, which is a good 150 less than their combined averages. -

Power of the pen. I wonder if the resignation is a step to start some kind of legal action. The principle handled this poorly. Hopefully the great grandson of the guy from Nantucket never enrolls in his institution.I'll be darned. -
Not sounding like it.I would hope there is more to the four day suspension than just an artistic expression. Here is what Rittman principal Brett Lanz told WJW in a statement:
"[The student] wrote a mean and disrespectful poem about another student and our athletic director/head coach. [it was] hazing, harrassment."
Does a mean-spirited poem read out once in a public classroom really constitute hazing? Neither Andre or his mother think it does, and one prominent Cleveland civil rights lawyer agrees with them.
"The breadth of expression, even in public schools, is virtually limitless," Cleveland-based lawyer Avery Friedman told WJW. "Unless speech is creating material disruption to the educational process, which certainly isn’t here."

What would you put the over/under for combined passing yards for both teams at Saturday? With the weather for Saturday looking to be cold and dry, but blustery, these two “pass first” teams could both struggle a bit in the air. -
This guy is very good about forwarding emails to the proper person.Does anyone know who to contact about a bit of misinformation on the new back the zips website? -
Maybe writers are hedging their bets knowing that paperwork needs to be filed properly in order for that to happen. At what point is the charade that Harney and Tree are seniors end? Everyone knows they will be in a Zips BB uniform next season. -
"The face plastered on billboards throughout the area and the wrap-around ads in the Beacon Journal reveals an heir apparent has risen to prominence for the University of Akron basketball team. Senior forward Demetrius Treadwell will see his profile upped significantly this coming season, but that’s not nearly as important as what effect he will have on the team."
Finally, someone is getting it.
PS With the B&W graphics, "Back The Zips" is starting to grow on me.

I would hope there is more to the four day suspension than just an artistic expression.Blake Dennis made Deadspin today and so did Akron -
He should officially change his name like Chad Johnson did. That way it would force people to use that name. Worked for Chad. For clarification the media wonks learned that Big Dog wants to be known as Big Dog. -
The rule is specifically AWAY from the basket. For a coach that emphasizes defense, I would think it will definitely be an issue.Zeke is not playing for us, so fouls will not be the issue they were in some past years. -
I'm half kidding. I have too much respect for Joe to ask that silly question, but I would LOVE it if he did. AND it might generate some talk about the show. If he did it, and there was a youtube clip of it, I would forward it along to SI's Hot Clicks....I just learned that Jimmy left!?!I didn't go there. If you want you could fire off an e-mail to Gregg Bach. He is in charge of producing the show. He was amazed at how closely the fans follow the show. They are definitely interested in feedback from the fans. -
Good. More entertaining. The Zips staff should follow suit. The NCAA is emphasizing offense. -
On? On Joe?The correct helmet will be on the set for the next show. -
Good call! I would guess this might be an option for some, considering the weather forecast.Game is also shown locally on channel 5.I wonder if this will be HD?
-
Good idea. I enjoyed them.
I posted one here with a few minor technical comments.

Thirteen votes, not one for the Zips?

Jerrod Dillard talks about getting his first road victory as a Zip with George Thomas.
Assuming this was shot on a mobile phone. Mobile Phone tripods are helpful. If you shoot on auto white balance, don't shoot faces with widows or bright lights behind them. Thanks. Enjoyed the video.

Starting in the 2014 season, the Class AA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians will be known as the Akron Rubber Ducks.
In an event at the Akron Civic Theatre, team owner Ken Babby announced that now is the time to dig deep, and create a brand that’s fun, and will mark the fan experience.
Rubber Ducks general manager Jim Pfander says they are thrilled to be part of the new brand, which was chosen as a way to represent Akron’s history in the rubber industry. “This is part of our heritage. This is part of our history. This is part of our future,” said Pfander
Babby says that when he bought the team, he wanted to improve the fan experience, and feels he did that in 2013 with discounted tickets and more fan-friendly activities. He says he also committed over $3 million in improvements to Canal Park, which he now says will total $5 million by the opening of the 2014 season, including a new restaurant at the ballpark.
Babby has a 25-year contract with the city of Akron to keep the team at Canal Park.
