  1. Some people get all excited when a MAC team competes with or beats a B10 team, but you need to remember that to the B10 team they are completely looking past the MAC team and for the MAC team, that is their season and they are very prepared for it.
Most of the time MAC teams are playing away against L10 teams. Home field advantage is a pretty big deal in football.
  2. Epic thread. Worth reading again in its entirety because it will make you laugh. Thanks for posting the link, Dr.
I did the same. I love the posters that think they know stuff because of what someone told them (general statement, not specific to anyone). I remember how lost the program was at that time. AGAIN, thank you coach Bowden for pulling us out of the pit of he#*.
  3. One thing I didn't see mentioned. Hopefully we learned something for next season. Toledo did an excellent job catching Akron in defensive substitutions. Many times yesterday Akron defenders weren't in position, didn't know the play, or weren't even facing the line of scrimmage after substituting in. Is it necessary to substitute after every play defensively? Overall this season, great job by coach Amato and his staff turning our defense around. I hope we only get better and better. Good luck recruiting!

  4. Now that the Zips are going to be good again, I'm going to make it a point to go to more games, in better weather, and tailgate in Lot 9.
Let me know when it happens, I'll help set you up. I enjoy reading your (and others) analysis when your at the game. I wish we had more that attend games post opinions. That's when I enjoy ZN the most. :thumb:

Funny, I cancelled my trip to NC because of the crappy weather there and ended up at the game.

While we were heading down the runway, all I could think was, "My feet are still killing me."
Best advice I ever got skiing in Aspen...buy one good pair of wool socks.
  5. After thawing out, I have a few more comments.
You were at the game and didn't stop by lot 9?

Chisholm..... What to say the day after a win that isn't too negative? Here is my best shot. The guy is very average and he does things that can kill a team because his head is somewhere else. He is just a robot that runs plays without thinking about where the ball is, down and distance, etc. A couple of cases. With two minutes to go in the half and Toledo having ZERO time outs, he runs on third down getting a big gain but does two things. First, he doesn't run hard enough to fight for an extra three yards. Secondly, he runs out of bounds stopping the clock.
That carry angered me (not his first this season), and it would have been his last carry of the day. Probably the wrong move for the future, but that's how I roll. I hope we can upgrade this position next year.

Many have already mentioned Pohl, but his progress could be talked about for a while. He NOW has everything a team would want in a QB
While I think Kyle managed his best game yesterday, I am only cautiously optimistic after one complete game. He is still a work in progress in my mind. I hope he puts in some hard work over the offseason. Example of a one game analysis of QB play

Play of the game. We could have an entire topic on this subject as there were so many good and key plays.
Very true. I'll go with the fake punt.

Let's talk about who was really playing to win yesterday. The Zips played to win. They came into the game with a lot of confidence and momentum, they were well prepared for a very good team, made good play calls, executed a good game plan and generally played better than Toledo for four quarters.
I agree, many aggressive, well executed plays yesterday. Staff had the team well prepared, great to see.

This team can and did win against a good MAC team. Well done guys.
Makes for a more enjoyable offseason. Especially on ZN.org.
  6. Terry and Chuck jumping for joy!
I saw the same thing. I hope someone captured that with a quality photo. That scene was one of my highlights of the day. In my mind, it showed me how much they care about the program. I enjoyed seeing the raw emotion. That's the kind of stuff you hope that carries over with the team. You want the kids to have fun while they are working hard. I agree with you, great weather (for one game a year like that).
  7. Hasn't had a turnover in three games. He looked really good today. This guy may have turned the corner.
I suspect as many times as coach has used the word "manage" when describing Kyle's game recently, the staff has worked with him on it. Best complete game he has played. Thanks for the hard work. Keep it up. :thumb:

Here is a replay of the last play that put the UT coach in a tizzy.

  8. George

It’s just an exhibition game, but fans will likely see which changes, if any, coach Keith Dambrot made to his lineup. The Zips guard play hasn’t been up to snuff in their first three games this year. Point guard Nyles Evans started against MTSU, Carmelo Betancourt the prior two games…The Zips are 5-0 in these exhibitions against Malone

PS Who do we blame for this schedule?...Please save me the "nobody wants to play the Zips" line.

PSS Is the Zips home basketball schedule more accurate at predicting snow storms than the farmers almanac?

  9. 1.) Is this success evidence of moving in the right direction or is it a function of competition
If we can celebrate wins over a bunch of crappy mac basketball teams, why can't we do the same with crappy mac football teams? The answer to your question is, both. Akron football fans can be hopeful for next season. Beating Toledo would go a long way in the offseason. Columbus State losing by more than four to UM would be an even bigger boost for this Zips fan. Unfortunately, I think Akron had a better chance of beating UM, than UM has of beating CS.

I hope many fans will try and make at least one of those games (I'm planning to go to the Pitt game) A lot of fun bars and places to eat in Pittsburgh.
    Agreed. I'm in!
  10. I believe one of the Browns recent successful plays is adaptable to the Zips offense. The Browns use it to get Gordon one on one quickly down the sideline, I think this plays goes to Fransohn Bickley in the Zips offense. Once again, I think this takes advantage of one of KP16 strengths (accurate sideline pass).

PS If your watching the Cle\Pit game today, watch for it. The Steelers will not defend this the way it is drawn up here, but not the point.

  11. @skip-zip, now you're talking my language. :D "Almost" is an imprecise enough word that people can look at "almost every" and have different interpretations. And I do understand that frustration with not seeing the Zips pull off more upsets makes it seem even worse than it is. I'd try to do a stat study to see how the Zips rank among all college basketball teams in terms of upsetting higher-ranked opponents, but the magnitude of crunching all those numbers is more than I care to take on. ;)
If you bet a taco through KDs career at Akron OOC ATS you would not be hungry.
