Could have been an informing/entertaining show, but Zips Live is CANCELLED tonight. Bill Morgan will speak with head basketball coaches Keith Dambrot and Jodi Kest in the next installment on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 7-8 p.m. at Johnny J's Pub and Grille in the Valley.

Len Paul brings Tree back written by GT
There’s a reason to believe he might be a reason this situation is soon resolved. He arrived at the same time as Zips great Len Paul. Paul has served as a mentor to Zips players and Treadwell in particular for more than two years. When asked if he brought Paul in to have a heart-to-heart with Treadwell, Dambrot wouldn’t comment.
-
The drama seems to be over with Treadwell. He returned to practice Thursday after missing a day, leading to speculation the 6-7, 235-pound Euclid High product was looking to leave the program.

As mentioned here by DIG I thought this deserved it's own thread.
University of Akron football head coach Terry Bowden has received a two-year contract extension, President Dr. Luis M. Proenza announced on Thursday. The extension, which is pending approval by the UA Board of Trustees, will keep Bowden at the helm of the program through the 2018 season.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the progress we've made," Bowden said. "I'm proud of the dedication of the players and staff, who have never given up and are starting to see the rewards of their hard work. This contract extension is a product of their efforts and I appreciate the continued dedication the University has made to Zips Football. That dedication of resources was apparent when I interviewed for this position and helps with every aspect of our program."

Moving in the right direction. Is this success evidence of moving in the right direction or is it a function of competition
Winning record should be the goal now. What are your projections for next year with a solid recruiting class coming in
Akron's success? I'm in the minority, I will take the better teams in the MAC on our schedule. I want to beat the best, it makes you a better team at the end of the season. Beating up on crummy teams this season was nice, gives the kids some confidence. Next year, we should be passed that phase in the program. To be the best, you have to beat the best. A team this year that comes one play from Michigan is going to complain about playing BG, Toledo, NIU...please. On top of that, playing crummy MAC teams is not entertaining to me. I like the Pitt, PSU, OSU, Tenn, Mich games. Especially since Bowden is here. I understand we have to play a MAC schedule, and some teams aren't good, but I don't have to like it.How big of a role do the MAC schedulers play in determining success
Most? Hmmmm, I would say coaching staff. I'm not sure how long you had in mind writing "sustainable", I'll just answer with, Coach said he's not looking to move on, so all I can do is take him at his word. He has a pretty good track record.Where have the Zips shown the most improvement and is it sustainable? -
I'm a little surprised that it went as I suspected, especially the over/under. Akron can compete at home against the team that played last night. So what's your scouting report so far? -
I hope Tree does whats best for Tree, whatever that is. I love watching him play, but don't pretend to know what has been said or done to him to cause his actions. Like Elton wrote, this could be a hiccup, or a major domino. So far, he has missed a practice, I'm not getting overly excited. Good luck Tree.

Think bigger. "Do both" —J. TaylorJust so it’s perfectly understood, I expect Tree to be back playing hoops at UA before too long. But, I’ll always be somewhat enamored by his gridiron potential. He and KD will work it out. -
I'm going to pass on any advice Benedict Saban has to offer.Sometimes tough love works too. It's not like the program has only won three games in three years. Nick Saban: Sympathy for the Devil -
I'm guessing Tree needs some time right now. For whatever reason if he doesn't find his way back to the court, I like him at tight end at 235lbs. Line him up in the slot, no safety can get a high thrown ball away from him, and few linebackers could cover his seventeen yard sprint. That position seems to translate well between the two sports. I always thought he looked like a TE.Get on the phone with Tree, TB! If you can’t talk him into returning for hoops, maybe you can solve some of your own D-Line depth issues in 2014 -
If so, I would guess cooler heads will prevail. KD needs a happyMethinks KD suspended him for whatever he did at the end of the last game and Tree wasn't a fan. Hopefully he wises up -
From the Ohio.com story by George
When asked if Treadwell had quit, Dambrot said: “I don’t know.” When asked if he has suspended the 6-foot-7 senior forward, he said: “No comment.”

"Only time will tell if this is an early season hiccup, or a major domino about to fall." -Elton Alexander
Major domino? Can someone grab the wheel on this ship! Time for coach Bowden's advice...love em up. Make a few practices fun.

I wish him good luck. We are truly going to miss him. My expectations for the team have just been reduced.Personal issues.Kretzer on crutches with ankle and foot taped Thanks for the quick response George.
What an awful day to be a fan of the team.

Jake Kretzer not practicing. What's going on GT?
-
With the risk of hijacking the integrity of the thread, I'll pass. It will come to you.Now that I looked at your link I had a better view. I was mistaken about how many defenders are on the field. They are only missing one instead of two. It's still much easier to score on 10 instead of eleven guys. Where is the missing safety? Count for yourself.Edit: Incase it hasn't come to you yet, this will help. I'm not the only fan of the play, BTSC featured this play this morning as his favorite play of the year.

Dri had his most carries of the season. He is what some like to call a "game changer." 3 TD's on 15 carries for 138 yards. He has been injured (ankle) all year. When we played him, he mostly played in the slot. I'm only guessing, since I can't look this up, but I bet he was only in for half the offensive snaps against Akron. Some of the other reasons: coaching (including game plan), schedule, injuries, suspensions, penalties etc... -
George just tweeted that he is practicing now? source

I've had this play in my head for two years now (for the Zips), to see it work on the biggest stage, at the most crucial time of a game, was pure delight for me.You forgot to account for the safety who will prevent your play from being successful. -
If you had the opportunity to call one play against Toledo, what would it be? Feel free to explain your personnel, or reasoning for the play. Most of us have sat in front of our TVs, or at Infocision stadium this year saying "why don't they just...." Let everyone know what you have been thinking or saying. I'm assuming Gruden is selecting spider two Y banana, but what would you call?
Here is mine. Toledo will look at many wide receiver screens on tape soon. I want to take advantage. I mostly hate the wide receiver screen, but I have always thought, why not pump fake that and hit the other receiver on the go route. Obviously the defense has to be aligned properly to make this work, and I think this play takes advantage of Kyle's sideline accuracy.
Here it is my submission to AJ:
PS If offensive isn't your thing and you want to give Coach Amato your play, feel free.

Good to hear. I hope this VERY good game is not his ceiling. The winning TD on the bubble screen was KP16's own call. TB said he had a VERY good game (noted the drops) and that this especially was revealed over his head set (implying that KP16 was getting the team in the right positions/calls more often than not).
