  1. Over the years Akron has been pretty successful recruiting in western PA. Coach has said many times that western PA is one of his focused recruiting areas. Today Jerry DiPaola of the Pittsburgh Tribune writes 5 star talent is becoming harder to find there. “The glory days of the WPIAL are past,” Farrell said. “If you look at the cities that produce the most talent, Pittsburgh is not in the top 10 nationally. Miami won with Miami kids. USC won with southern California kids, but Pittsburgh is not that talent wealthy.” This graphic is included in the article to demonstrate who recruits the area. Uncommitted talent listed in the Trib article: Tyler Boyd is a four star receiver yet to verbal. No Akron interest or offer. Robert Foster is a five star receiver yet to verbal. No Akron interest or offer. For reference, the PG list 22 top area talents: Post Gazette Fabulous 22 The Fabulous 22 is made up of the top players in the WPIAL and City League and a number of them go on to big things in college or play in the NFL. The team is picked by the Post-Gazette scholastic sports staff, with help from high school and college coaches. The first Fabulous 22 team was picked 31 years ago. Some of the former Fabulous 22 picks who are in the NFL are Darrelle Revis (Aliquippa), Rob Gronkowski (Woodland Hills), Steve Breaston (Woodland Hills), Paul Posluszny (Hopewell), Sean Lee (Upper St. Clair), Justin King (Gateway) and Charlie Batch (Steel Valley).
  2. Part of the solution, IMO, would be to wait until week 5 or 6 before you start ranking teams. This is only a start, but I have never been for BS preseason rankings. Teams start off too high that stay in the top 25 just because they were "originally" ranked. Some teams never make the top 25 because of the early over-ranked teams.
  3. What if Bobby is on the commitee?
  4. Looks like he has the fade to the pylon down. The one thing that sticks out to me, is something that I have heard TB say multiple times...."quick decision making."
  5. Maybe it was because Milan wasn't on the roster, but I didn't realize we got a 22 year old Serbian power forward for LBJ. That was some trade. Wonder if he ever went one on one with Cvetinovic?
  6. Now tell me again, what did the Cavs get in this trade for the greatest basketball player on the planet? I think I missed that in all the chaos that was created.
  7. Top Headline in the Trib!?!?
  8. 2011 Numbers Texas is king in total number of players - though it just edges out Florida (345 to 344). California (253), Georgia (170) and Ohio (144) are the only other states with more than 100 signees. NFL Talent...isn't to say warm weather is a prerequisite for producing top talent. Cities like Cincinnati (13), Detroit (13), Cleveland (10) and Pittsburgh (10) also produce Division I and professional talent at a high clip.
  9. Nike Advertising, very efficient.
  10. Feel free to discuss below. Here is Channel 5's Mark Johnson's reaction:
  11. If you google "akron zips basketball", gozips is the first three sites that come up.
  12. I stopped reading after the joke "football gets marketed to death." Now that's a funny one. You can add every basketball game to your electronic calendar with one click by downloading the ical file here. If you watched Zips Basketball with Keith Dambrot on STO on Mondays, they tell you when EVERY upcoming game is for the week, then they replay the show four more times. If you can't figure out when the basketball games are, your really not that much of a fan IMO.
  13. For those interested, you can watch the game live here. Gamecocks win 4-1 F. Roth pitches complete game two hitter with eight strikeouts! Portage County Hysteria comes to an end.
  14. My Great Aunt used to have a saying for what you just did...."trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s@!t" I'm with HT...
  15. 3-Star Scout Recruit Commits to MSU According to Rivals, Hicks' offer list includes Michigan State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Minnesota, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Virginia and West Virginia, among other schools. Akron offered, but he didn't visit and was listed as "not interested" I list this because of TB's comment in his radio interview on June 5th where he stated "We need to put up a fence around the Akron, Canton, Cleveland and Youngstown area. Any recruit not going to OSU, should be coming to Akron." Hopefully putting some W's up this year starts to change the minds of recruits like Darian.
  16. Okay, here you go: Ten Teams Banned for Academic Failings (the comment below the article made me laugh) I thought Toledo was one of the few entertaining MAC teams to watch last season. They have some exciting/entertaining talent on the team.
  17. What if that senior (that knows the offense) gives us the best chance to win our early games, but the younger guy gets more practice time (snaps) in to learn the new offense the first month(s), and then takes over?
  18. Dierdork wrestles with the rules of football Sundays in the fall on CBS.
  19. I remember interviews with Carlton Haselrig about how the skill set transfers. Carlton never played football in college. He holds the distinction of being the only person to win six NCAA titles in wrestling, winning 3 times in Division II and 3 times in Division I, all six for Pitt–Johnstown. In his third NFL season, Haselrig became a Pro Bowl offensive guard for the Steelers.
  20. I like the Keener quote! Don't be bitter Keener.
  21. Even the Zips are getting publicity out of Ken+s big run. Example Here.
  22. Ask Terry, I'm sure he'll give you the same answer he gave us.
  23. According to ESPN_Omaha The Gamecocks will play Can't State in an elimination game Wednesday 8pm ETon ESPN.
  24. For those of you that didn't know Sirius/XM changed the channel lineup on May 4th. This will effect where you listen to college football on your satellite radio this fall. Channel Lineup If for some reason your sirius radio did not update channels, see #3 here. You may have to refresh manually. I'll bump this back up at the end of August when the schedule comes out. MLB Bonus (I just figured this out last week) I'll share in case some of you don't know. All SiriusXM subscribers will be able to listen to MLB broadcasts through the SiriusXM internet radio.
