  1. ...allow you to read an article by a guy named Mike who writes for Akron Sports Now.
Is the photo of the tailgate lot accurate? Looks pretty light out to be "around the time of kickoff"????

Lot 9 was dark around kickoff time, and it had tailgaters in it.

  2. i liked the play calls tonight. iCoach isn't a good coach yet. But he had us in a position to win. And it seems like the players aren't giving up. Nice to see players competing given the circumstances. That counts for something.
I liked most of the calls tonight. Except for one big one that stood out to me. Akron ball first and ten with time stopped at the 2:38 mark at the Miami 13. I called the play in my head before they run it. I wanted them to spread it out and run an inside draw to continue to run the clock and get a few positive yards. We were having success running the ball at this time. They needed to run clock and leave Miami with little time on the clock since they would only need a FG to win when we scored a TD to make it 21-19. Actual call, pass to the end zone. Incomplete pass, stops the clock with no positive yards. Best case scenario on that call is a TD. Now Miami has two and a half minutes to get in FG position to win the game. That's too much time to leave them with IMO. That call bothered me.

  3. FYI, I got to the game last night right after the 2nd half kickoff. Nobody at the gate to check my ticket. Didn't need one to get in.
They are using the new video recognition software that they installed this season for fans that enter after the first quarter. You will receive a bill in the mail. They are unable to use it with big crowds, but they have had very good success with individual recognition.
  4. This is the monetary equal of you or I giving a handful of change to that guy on the street.
Maybe it's more about the time and effort than the money.

James said he’s overseeing next week’s Akron events from afar. The families chosen to be part of the Thanksgiving giveaway are connected to the Urban League and the Akron Public School system. “Even though I’m not going to be there, I was on all the calls and making sure everything is ran right,” James said. “I mean, it’s not like I’m a rookie to the whole situation. I kind of know what needs to be done.”
  5. Per the PD, Brett McKnight has violated his double secret probation, and is now indefinitely suspended.

The Akron Zips announced Wednesday that senior forward Brett McKnight has been suspended indefinitely by athletic director Tom Wistrcill for violation of athletic department policy. This comes on the heels of McKnight's recently completed 30-day suspension from the team for violation of team rules.
  6. We can't have Steve running on fumes at the end of the game all season. I know Abreu is young and un-polished, but we need to get him up closer to 18-20 minutes per game. I think he showed last night that the game isn't too big for him at this level.
Agreed. On top of trying to dribble behind his back on the wrong side of half court is a recipe for disaster (see last night). I understand why KD calls Abreu slow, but he seems to be a good ball handler from the little I have seen in two games. Steve works so hard to get the ball to the front court, he needs help.
  7. Need to make tonight's game exciting for you?

Miami Ohio vs Akron 2010 College Football Picks Free: The Miami Ohio Redhawks (6-4, 5-1 MAC) will travel to InfiCision field (Wednesday 6:00PM ET on ESPNU) to take on the NCA betting underdogs, the Akron Zips (0-10, 0-6 MAC), in a mid-week MAC conference battle. The Redhawks held on for a victory over the Bowling Green Falcons last week in a game that was played under an incredibly dense fog. The offense looked pretty solid, but the defense allowed Bowling Green to pull awfully close to tying the game. The Zips are coming off yet another defeat; this time at the hands of Ball State as Akron has yet to post a victory in 2010. Online Sports Handicapping always offers the most accurate free sports picks and college football odds from our dedicated team of NCAA predictions experts. Find our winning NCAA Picks selections below.

The Redhawks average 19 points and 327 yards per game, and are on the road for the seventh time this season where they are 3-3 on the season. In their two MAC conference home games they drew no closer than 36 points. They are coming off a competitive 37-30 overtime defeat at Ball St as a 13 ½ point road underdog. Akron was able to produce 358 yards and converted on only 4 of 16 on third down. The team found some good success running the football with 36 rushes for 180 yards for a 5 yards per carry average. The Zips lost their 10th game, despite owning a +2 turnover margin. Quarterback Patrick Nicely completed 18 of 39 passes for 178 yards with four touchdowns and 3 three picks last week, and if he doesn’t make better decisions against Miami, then they can forget about being competitive in this ballgame. With the college football spreads point total at 47.5, look for the Over to be the smart play in this match-up that will see Akron playing catch-up early.

  8. I also would like to let you all know that we will be trying to bring you as many of these post game press conferences as we can. I know for the most part we will have someone on campus all throughout our Winter Break to get these post game press conferences to you, as well as into next semester, where we already are planning on some road games to Toledo and Can't State to bring you those press conferences.
Last night would have been a good one.
  9. It was a tale of two halves for McNees. In the first he looked out of sync and his shot wasn't even close. In the second he got his shot going and looked a lot better. He seemed to tire a bit down the stretch, but he was out there a lot of minutes. I'm afraid that our lack of depth at the guard spots is going to wear him down some at times this year.
It's a shame Steve is a senior. The kind of team that he fits on will be next years Zips team more than likely. That turnover and foul of his in the back court with 4:32 left was the beginning of the end.
  10. Like the quote from Dambrot about Zeke being unselfish. What concerns me is Zeke's comments about being so unconcerned with scoring the basketball. We all knew he was a defensive minded player coming in, but at some point he is going to have to develop more of a taste for offense. He's such an advantage over every team in this conference and most teams in the country IF he ever develops that attitude of "you know what, I'm going to score on you and there is nothing you can do to stop me." Hopefully KD can coax that out of him some more.
Agreed. "Zeke doesn't like the limelight" I think was KD's quote. I would guess the more comfortable he gets, the more he will take to scoring. One of my favorite qualities in watching LBJ play in high school and in Cleveland was the fact that he would try to involve his whole team in the early part of the game, and if he had to he would score. Maybe Zeke will turn into that type of player. Less practical to do it down low, but you know what I mean. I'm excited to watch him match up tonight.
