  1. I really appreciate you bringing these post game press conferences to us. Great Job !!
    +1. Good stuff! Thank you!

Thank you for posting. This was not your normal post game press conference. KD is a fans dream during interviews. The dude is coaching during the interview!?! I enjoyed listening to Zeke. I like the way he thinks about his answers before giving them. I love the interaction between coach and Zeke, and coach and Josh, you don't normally get to see something like that. My favorite KD comments "when your potential best player is so unselfish, you can't help but have a good team.". Second favorite "Josh thinks he's good." Third best "we get along", telling statement. Says more about last years team. Keep up the good work ZTV. :thumb:

    Part 1

    Part 2

  2. It's a cliche, I know, but if you made something like this up, no one would believe it. LeBron has now, without prompting, volunteered that he identifies with Randy Moss.
I agree with LBJ, the sports media takes stuff way out of context all the time to make a story for Joe sports dummy. I also agree with Moss. I never understoond making players address the dolts in the media after a game. The players emotions are too high to answer reporters dumb questions. I think the players union should get together and write six answers that you can use on any question asked. Then the player can pick one of the six and repeat it to the media. Every player has to learn those six answers, then those fake press conferences can stop. I understand it in the old days when the newspaper was the main source of information, but now every sports fan turns on sportcenter to see the highlights of the game anyway. Every coach gives cliche answers and the media tries to harass them into getting mad and lashing out. I've always hated those BS press conferences, that's why I liked Belichick in Cleveland, because the media cronies couldn't get to him. As for LeBron, he is reaping what he sowed. In this case I really can't feel sorry for him. Speaking of the King of Akron, I went to the Cavs/Pacers game last night....BORING. That's probably my last Cavs game for a while, I think the Zips will provide more entertainment for me this year.
  3. I'll agree with everything DIG wrote too.

Different looking team. This team looks more exciting to me.

Diggs looks like a player to me. He needs work, but he is exactly what this team needs.

Abreu's passing looked good. He seems "okay", I would have liked to see a little more dribble penetration, but he looks like he has potential to help our team out right away.

I didn't see our pg turn around and dribble the ball backwards from half court to the three point line once (thank gawd), looks like we are in a hurry to get into our offense. Seems like we have more options this year. KD was right, I see an effort to get Zeke the ball. Zeke does look stronger too. Enger showed his hops. He is a high riser for sure. Missed two bunny dunks though. I sat in GA last night and there were a LOT of Enger fans around me. Looked like the same Nic to me. He still has potential to dominate, but he looks like he is thinking too much on the floor. This could all change after watching Tuesday's game, but I am excited to watch this team play. I see more offensive potential this year, and that makes for exciting basketball IMO.

PS I'll give Oldham a mention. I saw him moving people defensively on the floor once, as if he has a good understanding of where to be.

  4. What season ticket pricing adjustments do you think should be made for 2011?
None. It won't matter. The tone has been set. Why would someone buy a season ticket next year? Hold on to your premium seat? Donation?

What can be added to ticket packages to increase value to you, the likely purchaser?
There is no value in tickets to see the worst team in Div I football. Unbelievable tailgating atmosphere with good weather....& savings bond maybe.

Note: another great Saturday weather day coming up with no home game.

Do you generally renew these things early, or late? How can fans be incentivized to purchase and / or renew tickets early?
I like to wait to see how many times that Joe guy from the ticket office will call me. We'll see if he can beat his record this year which was close to TEN. I would renew earlier without the harassing phone calls, but now it's a game.

Maybe this relates only to single game buys, but should there be a premium game among the six home games? What constitutes a premium game?
Tough one. The die-hard fan is going to the game no matter what, so I feel they are taking advantage of him. I understand it is to take advantage of the guy that doesn't go to all the games, but it still gives the die-hard a "violated" feeling. A premium game is one that demand will outweigh supply, supply being 25k or so.

Good marketing guys can put more butts in the seats no matter if you are winning or losing. Good marketing while you are winning can carry you through the tough times while you are not. The University of Akron has missed most of these opportunities. Let's watch and see if the basketball season is marketed JUST like the football season since some feel that anybody can market a winner. Results always speak for themselves....I'll be watching and waiting for the magic. icon_popcorn.gif

  5. KD's direct quote is: ''He is deceptive. He looks like he's slow as molasses, but he's always getting by guys." He's not slow as molasses. He just looks that way. The deceptive part is that defensive players have a problem staying with him even though he doesn't appear to be moving that fast.

Thanks for the observation on AA D.I.G. I don't think we need a lightning quick guy at PG to be effective. I don't even think we need a scorer at that position on this team right now. What we do need is somebody that can get the ball down low, set up plays, get penetration to create space and move the ball. Hopefully your CP3 analogy is a good one. I think this team is better if AA can give effective minutes at the PG position. (insert horse beating emoticon here)

What I did not like about the comment, was that it was derogatory toward a freshman. I am guessing by what Hilltopper wrote that KD is trying to motivate AA to lose some weight. KD knows how "quick" he is, and knows he will read a comment like that. I just hope it motivates AA, and doesn't have an adverse effect on the young kid. I'm probably reading too much into it, but that's the first thing that came to my mind when I read that statement. KD is pretty honest when he answers questions or makes comments about the team. I really like that as a fan, but often wonder how it effects the team/players.

  6. From the bottom of the article, Central Michigan's coach:

''We've lost four games by a total of 18 points this year,'' Enos said Monday.

These type of excuses sound the same no matter what team/coach they come from. Terrible. I don't care if they are true. In the end, you (the coach) are accountable. Make a change to try to fix, don't give me an excuse. It rubs me (the fan) the wrong way to hear that because I already know it, tell me what your going to do so it quits happening.

  7. Alex Abreu could emerge as the starting point guard as a freshman.

If Alex is PG and Zeke and Steve can work an inside out game, Steve should get great looks at open threes. I think we go as far as Zeke and Steve working together takes us. I'm hoping (getting excited) to see a different style of game from last year.

I don't like the "slow as molasses" comment by KD. confused0006.gif I'll have to evaluate that myself on Friday. A better evaluation will come on Tuesday, but I'll still be able to tell by Saturday morning.

    Nice article BTW

  8. :horse:
I have to to agree with Hilltopper here, I like a joke as much as the next guy, probably more than the next guy. BUT, I think we get it, you (ZipRoo) think iCoach looks like Richard Kind. That doesn't mean you have to insert an image and large colored type in EVERY thread. Enough. Most people come here to discuss and learn about the Zips. Thank you.

PS Feel free to start a Richard Kind looks like iCoach thread in the Off topic, Smakes, & Jokes section, that's what it is there for.

  9. I think that one way Obama can survive is to more openly break with the generals and declare a definite end date to combat operations in Afghanistan. That would not just endear him to his base, but help divide the GOP branches of libertarians and neo-cons.
I agree with you. BUT the newly discovered 1 TRILLION in mineral wealth may have a lot to do with it.
  10. Not sure what prompted that, but whether or not you incorrectly only use one space or not, you'll find that our particular web page software sees any consecutive spaces as single spaces. So as I type this reply, this is a space with 1 space-> and this is a space with 2-> Not much difference online. In fact, there is none. This sentence follows 7 spaces. Try it out for yourself.
Cool. Never noticed the auto fix. I notice it when you reply to a post because it does not fix it there. Just a friendly FYI for educational purposes.

PS I know how to trick it too.mmDouble space after the period. :D

  11. Josh deserved some playing time this year, but with his ankle injury he is behind the rest of the guys. He won't be able to get by on pure athleticism all season long, he is going to have to know our sets and be able to play the brand of team ball that KD likes to play and I don't think he is going to be able to just pick that up on the fly.
He just needs to learn our offense, it's easy. :D

Coach Dambrot runs a combination of different offenses. First he runs a fast break similar to NC which tries to get the ball inside. From there on ball reversal we screen down and the get into baseline runner, with our 4/5 men on blocks and a player running off their screens. If the backside post helps we flush hi for a hi/lo look. We can sprint into on ball screens and either pick and pop or pick and roll. We run a lot of quick hitters always looking to get the ball inside and then play out of the post. Depending on what the defense does will determine which cut we run. We have set plays to isolate individuals in the post, sets designed to shoot the 3 and sets designed to drive the ball. We can run a set that is motion offense, we can spread the floor and use the ball screen to create total defensive rotations. We run a lot of different things to utilize our personnel. Hope this gives you a quick overview of our offense. source

PS You old school typewriter guys do realize there is no need to use two spaces after a period with the invention of proportional fonts right? The Chicago Manual of Style, the AP Stylebook, and the Modern Language Association all recommend using one space after a period at the end of a sentence. Specific explanation from Grammer Girl

  12. I disagree with playing Egner right now. His athleticism is un-questionable, but he still looks like he needs quite a bit of work.
Ask yourself this question "If he plays now, can he help our team win March 9-12?" If your answer is "yes", than play him, if it is "no", sit him.
  13. I Dissagree:

"The adversity we are facing now will only make us better in the future," Ianello said. "It should make us more appreciative of things in the future. It would also, I would think, make us strongly not want us to be here again."

    I Agree:

"Fans of our program, the strong supporters of Zips football, understand that it wasn't working before," Ianello said. "How do you grow the program? Well you make changes to grow the program and you have to work those changes. I think the supporters of our program, the fans of Zips football, understand it's a process that you have to go through to play championship football."

    I Dissagree:

Ianello understands fans will not see the improvements that he's seeing

    I Agree:

He maintains that he will be able to recruit well no matter the record this season, and he understands that Akron has a lot to sell for its size. Its facilities and stadium are among the best in the MAC.

    Bottom Line:

He is not concerned about his job security, and Wistrcill made it clear he does not need to be worried.

    File It Away:

He tells fans their patience will be rewarded.

  14. Note: its one dollar hot dogs and Pepsi (gack) night
You would have to pay me to eat a hot dog at the JAR. The concessions are as bad as the Rubber Bowl's were. Why is it that we have to get a new venue to get better concessions?

If it is true what you say about last "second", it is odd to me that nobody had a plan B if MSU fell through like you say. We should have been able to look at the schedule and say "hey, if this game falls through, what do we do" Millipede was the best they could come up with?!?!?
