Not sure if Akron would be allowed to do this. I asked this question some months ago and was told that it is not allowed. Lest, many, many schools padded their roster in this manner. But the soccer program giving academic scholly's (as has been sort of confimed on that board) to loosen up athletic bids is OK? I don't get it! Really, why cant the basketball team just name Bardo as a grad assistant? Obviously you couldn't pay him but just cover his academics. Is there a rule i dont know of? What if KD adopted him, would that free up a scholly?

The fact that the staff addressed the point guard position pleases me more than anything. I was going to have a hard time getting excited for next year if nothing happened. Now, I am intrigued for next season. My favorite quote from KD about Alex "ability to make others better around him". THAT's what we need at PG. I hope it pans out that way.

Soure PD (click here) AKRON, Ohio -- Opening day is months away, but Akron football coach Rob Ianello is hard at work trying to meet all the fundamental promises made when he was hired to replace ousted J.D. Brookhart at the end of a 3-9 season in 2009. A 6 a.m. practice is just completed, and Ianello -- who could use some coffee but doesn't drink it -- sits to answer a few questions about a team that, according to Akron athletic director Tom Wistrcill, is poised to be an immediate Mid-American Conference contender. "We have a lot to do," he said. "Just look at scheme," Ianello began. "We go from a shotgun, spreadlike scheme to a more conventional scheme. There's something as fundamental as the center-quarterback exchange. Patrick played in high school in the shotgun and his first year here in the shotgun. The young man who played center here last year is not with us. "So we have two new guys playing center, and a quarterback who has never been under center taking snaps. Just that fundamental alone is going through some growing pains." Ianello, 44, said simple fundamentals like that at several positions, including offensive line, are where Akron's cupboard is being rearranged. Offensively, one thing that will be novel for the MAC is that Akron plans to use a fullback extensively. Over the years, MAC teams have gone to variations of the "spread" offense, which features not a fullback, but backs and receivers scurrying all over the field, and quarterbacks with varying abilities to run the football to get out of trouble. "We've moved three guys to fullback [blake Fraley, James Heiss, LeVon Morefield] who have not played fullback before," Ianello said. Big-play safety Jalil Carter also has been moved to wide receiver, requiring another learning curve on offense. "We'll see where that takes us," coach said. The spring game is April 17.

Now your getting it. For comparison's sake, it would help if they played for the same team in the same era, but I'll let you slide for the point of illustration.

Great job Tom. I never understood how DLM couldn't walk down the street on a beautiful day like today a do a nice story like this. Looking forward to tomorrow. I hope Thursday is Special Teams, Friday is Offensive Line, Saturday is Running backs, etc... This quote is the easy part, now the execution (hard part). But at least we have the right mindset now.

On top of enjoying a great college basketball game, I couldn't help feeling extremely jealous of Butler last night. If the goal is a ten (1 out of 10) and Butler is the goal, I think we are at a 4 or maybe a 5. I was so envious of the dribble penetration that Butler produced to get open looks at the hoop and put Duke's big men in foul trouble. Well run offense, crisp passing, drive, kick out, quick ball movement, get the open look. Very intelligent shot selection. VERY jealous of that. The defensive ball pressure that they exhibited was fantastic. With the emphasis that our staff puts on defense, I would expect that kind of play on our defense. Congratulations to Butler, but to me that game was a harsh slap in the face at how much work is ahead of our program. Good luck to the staff in getting it done. I'll be watching from the JAR next year again. PS All year long I envisioned us using Zeke on the inbound pass the way Duke used their big man. That seems like taking candy from a baby to me?!?!

We can't win a home CBI game against Wisconsin Green Bay. We have a long way to go. Yes, but W-GB was only six RPI slots worse than us. Well here is sort of an answer to my question. I happen to golf with a bunch of Jackson alumni yesterday and one of the guys I was golfing with told me that the rumor is that Josh has a 40" vertical. I'm only repeating what I heard somebody say, I didn't get a chance to measure him myself, so don't hold me to this. I would hope that somebody in the media can find this out for sure. Or maybe GoZips can ask KD if it's true or not.
