  1. I didn't get to see the oakland-baltimore game.
Watch or record the game tonight (8 pm) on NFL replay. Come back tomorrow and post your thoughts. This is not just for zen, for everybody....GP1 included. If anybody has not got a chance to watch NFL replay, if you record it, you can watch the whole game in about an hour by ffwd through the commercials. They do a great job of editing the game, by taking out some of the boring 3 and outs.
  2. Getsy & Hixon. For bringing me my all time favorite Zips sports moment...by far!
I don't know...We got two guys (Hixon and Blackburn) who got Super Bowl rings and STARTED for the Super Bowl Champs the following year.Hard to beat that at Akron.
The Steelers had 3 MAC players win a ring with them, Harrison, Batch, and Leftwich. One of those being the Defensive player of the year, Now thats hard to beat.
How do you leave Ben off your list?
  3. The new head coach sad he was going to heavily recruit Ohio an Northern PA. we are from Michigan, so YOU. are rite WE CAN SEE THE WRITING ON THE WALL.
Since Shuford was already on the team, what does this have to do with the price of eggs? I hope he doesn't run into any adversities with his new team. Life is full of them. Good luck to him. :thumb:
  4. I don't think the 3-3-5 decision was made by the linebacker coach.
3-3-5 was JD's decision. His thought was that the MAC played a lot of spread offense, and the 3-3-5 was the best way to stop it.Sticking with that decision throughout his entire time with Akron was his worst decision IMO, and one of the reasons he is no longer here.I'm sure JD will land on his feet somewhere, he is a hard worker. I wish him and his family nothing but the best.
  5. GoZips.com football staff pageIt gets updated as the hires become official.
I'm pleasantly shocked they're updating it in practically real time. 5 GA's(?)...that will help keep the costs down. Is it good to hire unit coaches before the coordinator? I guess RI is being very selective about a DC.
Its possible that some of the hires won't be announced until the bowl season is over.
Is it possible that we have an offer to a DC that also may be in the running for a HC job?
  6. Do you think that your hatred for the 3-3-5 makes you bias and that don't recognize that Florida won national championships using a similar scheme? Or that West Virginia was the pinnacle of the Big East using it? And that it's quite possible that it was the lack of aggressive play calling (hardly any blitzes) that caused the defense to have issues? And remember before you comment...This is a thread about the new coaching staff.
I absolutely realize that Florida runs the 3-3-5. And that is where you have to be to run such a gimmicky D. You need LOTS of speed. That's why it works there. You are not going to be able to recruit kids that can make that defense work at Akron. THAT is why I'm opposed to running that D at Akron. Learn to walk before you run. My new years resolution is going to not mention the stack D in another post throughout 2010.
  7. This thread is about coaches for Akron. If you want to use this thread to show your hatred or jealousy go for it.
Since your a Columbus State fan, is it possible that you just don't like ND and since your second tier team is hiring all their former coaches it just irritates you? I would also point out that a lot of assistant coaches can get "set up" to fail. Example: Akron's DC. JD's first week on the job he announced on Zips Live, "I'm going to run a defense in the MAC like they have never seen" Whatever DC we got at Akron was destine to fail. This DC could go somewhere else and succeed. I'm not sure how somebody can speak bad about coaches that are hired until we actually see them coach a few MAC games. How can you evaluate someone that has not actually preformed in the environment that they were hired in? I wish Rasor could do a closing interview with JD. I wish he could ask, do you think you were stubborn when it come to your defensive scheme, do you wish you changed your scheme at any point and time here at Akron? Do you think having more than one offensive coordinator imputing plays confused your offense? How would have you have handled the CJ situation any different going back a year or two? Is head coaching different than you had envisioned? If you got to hire any two coordinators that work in college football, who would they be? It's too bad I'm not Oprah, I would offer JD a million to sit on my couch for an interview.Maybe ND is just a stepping stone for Akron like this poster suggests? :D
  8. That same school (Akron) is interested in Bison receivers coach Terry Samuel
Some NDSU fan (so take it for what it's worth) is posting (at 1 am this morning) that a local tv station is reporting that this is false. 2nd post from the bottom (RedRiver)
WDAY TV Sports reported tonight that Coach Samuel stated that he has not talked to Akron and that he does not plan to talk to them.
I checked WDAY's web site, but can't find anything------------------------------------Same/but different news: Former ND defensive co-coordinator Corwin Brown interviews for UB head coach1276469.jpegCould coach Ianello and Corwin be waiting before they see if Corwin lands a head coaching job before being offered or accepting a job at Akron (purely speculation by me)? Only because I'm dying to know who will end up as DC.
  9. Let's hire the entire ND coaching staff: they did such a bang up job there.
I'm not for, or opposed to hiring ND staff. For one, you go with what you know, EVERY coach does it. Coach Ianello knows what kind of coach he has in John Latina. He was a successful play caller at Ole Miss, so why couldn't he be at Akron? Plus he's from Western PA. Both Camp and Latina were assistant coaches on their previous staff. Just because you don't succeed at one place, doesn't mean you can't succeed at another. It's up to coach Ianello to find the right "mix" and put people at the right positions to be successful. I'm am most interested who is going to be our DC. I'm DYING to know. I don't have time right now, but somebody should research defensive guys that were associated with coach Ianello and put a list together.
  10. If Charlie ends up with my team, I'll throw myself off of a bridge. There is enough losing going on with those guys.
Don't do that! I know a guy that once said:
most teams have three QBs. There are 32 teams. There are 96 QB getting paid. Only about 20 (and that is on the high end) are worth a crap. That means there are 76 guys getting paid a heck of a lot of money for not being very good at what they do for a living. Frye can certainly be one of those 76.
    :D
  11. In five minutes, the Big 10 is having a press conference on future expansion.
According to ESPN "There will be no press conference to make the announcement"Are they going to change the name of conference so it represents what it is? That should be the story. If they do maybe the MAC should take their old name. At least we would have our own network then.
