I never heard of Rob before yesterday, but like I predicted back in September if you followed Tom's past you would find our next head coach in there somewhere. I was really hoping for a defensive minded coach, but we will see who Rob brings in as defensive coordinator. Rob is supposed to be a great recruiter. While he had the luxury of using the ND money and name to recruit against the big schools, now he just has to recruit against MAC schools? Hopefully his success will transfer. While I see the title is the same as JD had when he was hired, I think the similarities end there. I'm pretty sure that I was not going to attend as many games next year as I did this year if JD was still running the same mess I watched this year. I am now excited about the first game next year. I'm anxious to see who Rob is able to recruit here, and I can't wait to see his coordinators and what kind of offense he runs and what kind of defense he runs. Welcome aboard Rob, and good luck....your gunna need it.
You can follow Rob on Twitter....Urban, Lane, Charlie, Pete and Tim do. He already knows Stams.ND fans not happy losing RobWill he bring any ND coaches with him to Akron?

I hear they are just negotiating what his assistants will make.According to our sources, the contract is almost finished with the University Officials. -
BINGO!
Ianello was assistant at Wisconsin for two years at the same time that UA Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill worked in the athletic department for the Badgers. -
You could have great facilities and continue to lose...know of any place like that?I hope I get a chance to complain about a head coach that is 61-5 (.924).school with facilites that rival most 1-A schools (complete indoor facility, the whole nine yards), and he's got every advantage to win at GV. -
I agree! Resume seems a little thin. In 1999, he was named one of the top-10 recruiters in the nation by ESPN.com and one of the top six recruiters nationally by Sporting News.I love the recruiting prowess, but no HC experience, or even as a high level coordinator makes me nervous. If he is the pick, I'd hope that a staff is put together that compensates for this. -
I'm starting to like Chuck the more I read about him:Maybe TW wants/needs to wait until after the D-2 Championship game this Saturday before he makes a final selection?
JD said it was hard to recruit DL, so he run the stack. Chuck can suspend three, and still play four at a Div II school?!?Able to adjust the defenseThe GVSU defense didn’t budge much, though. Despite the absence of three suspended defensive lineman from their usual two-deep roster — end Blair Hollis and tackles Andre Thomas and Ryan Wheat — the Lakers held the nation’s No. 1 rushing offense to 65 yards in the first half and 177 yards overall. Carson-Newman averaged 349 yards per game with its unusual split back veer option.I might have to set the DVR for Saturday's game on ESPN2 at 1 pm....just in case.

Sources indicate that Stoops was “very impressive” during the interview at FSUI'm telling you guys (well just eguin), you (YSU) need to get DJ Durkin as your next head coach. After jumping through all those hoops these YSU fruit loops are saying "Whoops! Stoops might not even give two poops about this job!" -

I agree, good luck to him, and if it doesn't work out, who knows, he might end up back here at some time anyway.I dont think it is right to be angry at high school kids over recruiting. They have a lot of pressure on them at a time when they are trying to figure out a lot in the lives. -
Or he is using YSU as a negotiating dummy.
At least he is interesting in playing ball for us, not the Kangaroos down the road in Akron.
How can that be? I thought he was just negotiating his coaches salaries and signing on the dotted line? Something about hitting a home run.he could be the surprise pick to get the job at FSU, in that case, we'd likely hire Eric Wolford, another Youngstown product, this one from Ursuline. -

This just in, ZN has learned that eguins is on suicide watch.Florida State: FootballScoop has learned that Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops interviewed yesterday with Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher. -
My guy will have played TE in college, coached defense in college or pros, and maybe has some head coaching experience, his first name might be Mike...(I'm not speaking of a specific guy, there are a few of these guys out there)
People who play/coach defense have the brains of an ant. Anyone with half of a brain plays offense. We need an offensive coach who won't run a gimmick defense and we will be fine.IMO I feel that defensive guys make better head coaches because they know the game better. -
So...hard...to...agree...with...UAkronkid...must...resist....I'm still of the opinion that it is easier to get a good offensive staff than a good defensive staff at Akron (my proof is in the last two decades of Zips football). I want my head guy to be from the defensive side of the ball so that side gets more attention. IMO I feel that defensive guys make better head coaches because they know the game better. I know there are examples that prove this otherwise, but it's my opinion.
I can hire my OC off this team.

Youngstown State: The entire city of Youngstown is anxious to find out why Mark Stoops has yet to be named head coach at YSU. We wonder if a major BCS program is interested in Stoops as a DC. Jimbo? Some people believe if Arizona AD Jim Livengood in the next few days, Livengood would turn around and hire Stoops as the UNLV head coach.sourceWhat coaching candidate would be negotiating the salary amount for his assistant coaches? I have heard from numerous people that it is Stoops' job for the taking. Although it will cost YSU a significant amount of money, the expectations here are a LOT higher in Youngstown than in Akron. -
I'm not a huge fan. Offensive guy. Who likes the Pirates, Taco Bell and the theater??? Sounds like an offensive coordinator to me, not a head coach at Akron.Warinner, one of three finalists this season for the American Football Coaches Association's national assistant coach of the year award, has coached the KU offense to the top three total yardage seasons in school history in three years on the job. Warinner and Akron make sense for each other. Warinner is a native of nearby Strasburg, Ohio, who attended nearby Mount Union College from 1979-83. He served as an Akron assistant coach in 1984 while working on his master's degree, which he received in 1985. Throughout his career, Warinner has maintained deep recruiting ties in Ohio. -
Tom better find a guy with a sense of humor. I think THAT is most important thing.

Hixon is Peter Kings special teams player of the week. Another MAC player is offensive player of the week.Domenik Hixon, PR/WR, New York Giants.Nursing a 24-17 lead with six minutes left, the Giants' punt-return team lined up for a boomer by Dallas' Mat McBriar. Fielding it at his 21, Hixon weaved and deked for a few yards, then found an alley down the right side. He got two good blocks and sprinted into the end zone. Ballgame.

If your a good coach, your a good coach, you don't change over night. Spurrier left Florida and was successful with SC, Saben left LSU and is successful with Alabama. You just can't say because someone was fired, we can't interview him, especially at Akron if you have a chance to hire someone that was successful as a head coach on a bigger stage.PS I hope you realize there is no "formula" to hire a head coach, or everybody would be successful.Raw deal or not, I am hesitant to take in a former BCS coach. Can anyone name just three coaches who were fired from a BCS school and then were successful at another FBS school? -
I was just putting a face with a name for ZN. What coach can impress being interviewed now a days? They use one cliche after another so as to not say the wrong thing. Ask me any question about Zips football, and I'll answer it like JD used to do. I can tell you his answer before you ask the question. What about that Mickey Matthews clip from the CAA media day is supposed to impress me? -
Rump, you have to win as the most doom and gloom, the sky is falling poster on the football board. You do realize that we have only had TEN division I victories that aren't Ken+ or EMU (who hardly count as Div I) in the past FOUR years. (Read that sentence back a few times until you realize how crummy that is, then continue.) So what ever we were doing, it wasn't working! You want an assignment? I'll give you one. Tell every guy on defense to start studying the 4-3. Tell the kickers to practice high booming kicks. Do this, & we'll double our wins next year. The underclassmen have no off season work out to take home with them -
I think Mickey Matthews would be a great hire!
-
Even though Virginia is going to hire him today, I like the type of guy we are interested in...defensive guy with head coaching experience.I am also glad that we are not only looking at local guys who some posters think we need because they can "recruit this area" I think that's hog wash.Akron has sought permission to speak to Richmond head coach Mike London. -
After 11 pts & 5 rebounds against A&M, Jimmy is starting to meet CK's high expectations.I predict 4ppg & 4rpg for Jimmy in 2009-10. Percentage-wise, it would be a big increase over his career numbers.
