I hope Rasor gets us some info on this. Especially when Zack Campbell boomed a 76-yard punt Saturday (3rd longest in school history) I blame this on coaching, not the kids. I might go with JT, but I agree, I hope he gets a shot with an NFL team. He should hire DH's agent. IMO the pros outweigh the cons. The most important thing to me in a season is wins. I'll say 4 point underdogs. If that was a Topic headline on ZN in early August, there would have been some angry posts. It's up to Nicely how much work he puts in, but we are already seeing improvement each week.I think the one good thing that may come out of this season is the invaluable experience he is getting this year. He'll be here next year, because he is guaranteed the job of starting QB.

Run the ball, and stop the run. It's one of the oldest clichés, yet I'm not sure this staff understands it. 234 yards rushing to ZERO.Which is worse, giving up 234 yards on the ground with this bs defensive scheme or producing no yards on the ground on offense?Maybe next year when you stop by we'll have a staff that can even those stats out. It's embarrassing.

I know this is old, but I just wanted to hear the kid speak and see what he looked like:
-
Glad to hear that. That has to be small proof that the on campus stadium is making some difference. Does he still talk about the shirt he is wearing that night?

I used to really enjoy watching his show, I'm just far enough away from Akron now that I can't pick it up anymore.Steve isn't afraid to say anything, and sometimes pays for it with a totally wrong comment. I can understand hiscomments about JD, but I just can't see him keeping his job. It would be the biggest surprise in Akron football to meif JD is the head coach of the Akron Zips next year. I hope Steve speaks about Akron more on his show, sometimes Iwas the only caller to ask about Akron and that would be the only time he would mention them. BTW It's the only radio/tv show that I have ever called into in my life. I always felt like Steve knew the Akron info, but had to be prodded/calledfor the viewer to get it. At some point and time in his life, Steve should get some kind of award from the U.

Ken+ is finding ways to win, the Zips are finding ways to lose. We NEED to find a way to beat Ken+, it's the ONLY thing that can salvage this terrible season.

A real punt! Thank gawd some coach is reading ZN.

I can't find the post this week where somebody is insistent that our defense is the 3-4 now. Anybody notice that Stams keeps referring to it as the 3-5? Who's right?
-
Congrats to PN16, hopefully many more to come in the next four years!
-
I thought of that too, but decided to go with football since the Zips football fan could use a small smile right about now.Look for a Xmas or Thanksgiving dance latter.

Pretty funny ad spots

I'm guessing Ellen wrote that sentence to get a rise (get noticed) out of ZN. Consider the source.

Patrick, DeVoe, Brian, Andre & Almondo Get Into It!?!?
-
I'm guessing since they don't have it at the college soccer store it's going to be tough online. Have you checked at campus and off campus Zips apparel shops?
-
Seems a little odd that Gaffney would write an article on PN16 today if he broke his ankle yesterday?
-
Sorry Tex, I'm stopping my football road trips this year at two. No mas.

Simply fix would be to give your source of information. Example 1: The 22 year old girl that was our tour guide suggested that you will not be able to sit on the hill. Example 2: A student (or whomever) told me that PN16 broke his ankle today at practice today. PS If the info about PN16 is true, get ready for the wa wa wa wild....I can't even type it.

I am with you 100 percent. Have you ever noticed the team coming out in a second half of a game and changing something up? We consistently get out coached at halftime. Have our players progressed over four years of being with our program that they wouldn't have on their own? I would like to see more coaching and less gimmicks. If we took away all our gimmicks, lined up under center in a pro form offense, played a base 4-3 defense, lined up and punted the ball with hang time, I am confident a COACH can come in and change the win/loss record around (4-8 to 8-4). I just want to win games. The more I watch this years team, the more I understand why Jim Tressel is a successful COACH with his philosophies. (and yes, that pains me to type, but I am desperate)

Obviously it was a very disappointing loss. We thought the kids played extremely hard and they rallied. The young freshman, Patrick Nicely, for a freshman played well, for a veteran, he played okay. We had two turnovers inside the five-yard line against a team that we're fairly similar to and didn't get the victory. On the last drive, I thought we had it and our defense needed one more stop, which we didn't get. The last drive we threw a ball in front and had two balls tipped and it's very disappointing. We've got to make some more plays, we've got to be more consistent. I think the defensive is playing pretty good football right now.We did lose two other players to season-ending injuries, Deryn Bowser with a broken fibula and Aaron Williams with a broken arm. Williams, is an amazing story. He came out in the second quarter, hurt his arm and played 50-some snaps after that. We found out it had multiple breaks. He's tough, we didn't know until Sunday. He's having surgery today but I can't imagine that it felt good. I think it says a lot about him and about our team, I think that's a lot of what we're doing right now, we're fighting. On Andre Jones...He's helping out where he can help out. He's fantastic, a smart kid and he came in and did a heck of a job. Position-wise, he's a reserve at corner and nickel, he's moved to receiver fulltime, he's returning, he's on coverage units so he's doing a little bit of everything. He's also our wildcat package, should we need to go to it. As Dr Z wondered last TuesdayOn Aaron Williams...We had our staff meeting yesterday at three o' clock and Bill Droddy our trainer goes over the injuries. We went over the offense, we went over the defense list and Aaron is at the very bottom of the list and he told us about him. It's really amazing that a kid could do that. We're talking multiple breaks, which explains some things later in the game as you watched it.On the Wide Receivers...It would be a rare case to see Bowser back for the last game of the season. Right now, I think there are three young kids that could play but I don't think that's fair to them. Burning Patrick's redshirt was a real necessity. I think Andre (Jones) is in very good shape for one, he's also a talented player and he we have to use him both ways we will. Randy Greenwood, Dee Frieson and Jerrod Dillard are the three receivers that could help but I don't think we're there right now.On Syracuse...They are a very, very improved football team. I think that these guys play really hard defensively and it's a very confusing package defensively. They bring a four-man line, three-man line, four defensive backs, five defensive backs or six defensive backs. It's going to be a difficult game mentally. They are playing hard, their nose guard we'll play against is a lot like the guy from Penn State. Offensively, their running back is playing really well, they've got a stud-type NFL receiver that they get it to so it's a good, tough combination to deal with. They've got their run game, the play action and then the big play with the receiver, Mike Williams who was All-Big East two years ago as a sophomore. They play a very difficult schedule and they are a much better team than their record is right now and Coach Marrone has got them playing really hard right now.

What is the thriller video? Click here to find out Post from Feb 2007!?!?
-
It makes sense to do it the way the Steelers do it to get fans fired up. Useless right now in football, it would be a good idea for the scoreboard in the JAR. Worked with the 'Thriller' video (best piece of Akron video put together).
