  1. http://www.uakron.edu/im/online-newsroom/p...place%20to%20be I love it.
  2. I think that's a horrible mistake. Early college is...eh... Let's just say that it's aggravating when you have to weave your way through swarms of screaming high school kids in the student union. They need to get that stuff OFF campus. Once, I heard a UA student say, "Do you guys even go here?" and some high school student screams back, "Its Akron, you dont have to go here to be here!" That's early college in a nut shell.
  3. Couldn't have said it better myself. ZNO is a tight group. Students, alumni, athletes....we are all one family. God bless Humpty and his family.
  4. Last year the heat was still on when we were moving out(May 6th?). Crazy.
  5. Unfortunately, I'm going to side with Jake on this one. He might be confrontational, but he's right. RHPB and the groups who organize campus gatherings dream up the corniest things ever. I'm amazed that the U is even having a beer garden. If they allow this, then why aren't they allowing beer to be sold at the stadium. And as far as UA not having a 'real campus' experience--you are just wrong Jake. RHPB may be corny but I'm sure that's true at practically every school. The real college experience is skipping the corny events and pounding some beers on Friday night. That's what makes memories. Do you really think anyone looks back and goes, "wow, remember that time back in college when we played the price is right--AKRON STYLE LOL!!!111"? No. They don't. Just being on campus the past few years, I've witnessed the mindset slowly change. More people staying on the weekend, more parties, etc. As I mentioned on the other thread, give this campus 10 years and the transformation will be complete. We will have a real live college campus. It just takes time. Look how far we have come since 2000!
  6. First of all, it isn't fair to compare UA to any of these schools except Cleveland State. UA borders Akron's downtown. Even other urban campuses like Toledo and Ohio State are further away from the city core. That said, I think Akron has a nicer campus than K-ent, Toledo, and Y-town. Those are the only 3 that I have seen firsthand. The area surrounding campus is an entirely different discussion. Can't State has some of the crappiest architecture on a college campus in Ohio. Seriously. It's like a campus full of Ayer Hall's(UA students know what I'm talking about). Give it 10 years, and UA's campus will be on the same level as Ohio State(as far as urban campuses go--on a smaller scale, of course). Just remember, in Proenza we trust. As shady as he might be, the man knows how to put on a fund raiser.
  7. If the MAC is weaker, nothing changes. We're still a one-bid conference with the only hope of going dancing coming from winning the MAC tournament. If the MAC is stronger, there's still a chance that nothing changes as far as going dancing. To have a good chance at an at-large bid, the MAC would have to pass about seven other conferences. So, the MAC getting weaker with Akron staying the same would seem to give us a better chance of getting into the NCAA tournament, because if the MAC got stronger it means a harder time through the conference tournament but maybe not a better chance at an at-large bid unless the improvement is extremely dramatic. Congratulations, Zach. You have discovered what we call a 'Catch 22'.
  8. I respectfully disagree. It starts with Akron making key shots in key games in the MAC Tournament. Sure, I can agree with that much. But Akron has the talent to play a better OOC teams. I'm going to hold my tongue on this topic until I see our schedule for next season(That, and the fact that Spring break is over so I will no longer have time for ZNO). And as far as Akron playing big name teams on the road(which I assume is what you're referencing to); I say go for it. What's the worst that could happen? If we can't beat a team like Florida State it isn't like we deserve an at large bid in the first place. That is, unless they expand the tourney to 96 teams. That's a whole 'nother can of worms.
  9. I could really care less how Ohio fares next season. Akron and only Akron can get themselves in the big dance and it starts with scheduling. I'd like to see the competition in the MAC increase but that automatic bid NCAA bid seems so much more obtainable without Armon playing.
  10. In many ways you could call this thread a compliment to Bassett. If Akron fans think that it's good news he won't be playing then they must think highly of him as a player. I wish Armon the best of luck with whatever he does(unless he's playing the zips, that is ).
  11. http://www.athensmessenger.com/sports/ohio...1cc4c002e0.html I don't have a subscription to the "Athens Messenger" but here's the gist of the article according to a bobcat fan: So Armon might split early for Europe. Personally, I would be surprised to see him leave. It just seems too good to be true.
  12. Elijah Macon I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. Scout claims that he's narrowed it down to Akron, Ohio, Ohio State, and West Virginia. He originally committed to WVU but changed his mind. Here's to hoping Akron can reel him in. Scout reports that he's already visited Akron(and only Akron) this past September. Does anyone have any info on him?
  15. Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES!
  16. He's from Ohio. What are you talking about? Ianello served as recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach at Arizona. Yup. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204846946
  17. If Ianello can find talent in Arizona then he's going to have a field day in NEO.
  18. Okay. You win. Believe what you like.
  19. Never looked at it that way. Go OHIO!
  20. News f-lash. Akron took OHIO U to overtime and Both Akron and Can't went 4-0 during the regular season against OHIO U.
  21. Thank you. This is a continual process. One win in the NCAA won't do it. Consistency is key.
  22. Believe it or not, some of us have hopes of being more than a one-bid conference. What does it say if Ohio wins a game or two and K-ent goes deep in the NIT? These are all small steps toward recognition for the conference. Now we just need to develop an answer from Basset and Cooper. Humpty? D-Rob? Helloooo? Anyone home?

  24. Georgetown has an obvious advantage with the big guys. They had better exploit that if they plan to win. Here's to hoping they don't! This looks great for the MAC. Akron even got a little plug at the end of the half.
