Sounds like a novel idea. I think a few ZNO posters are years overdue for a dipey changing.

Sounds good to me. Due to facilities, location(rural/suburban vs urban), and academics(undergrad focus vs grad/research) I can only think of three MAC schools with an outside shot of going anywhere: 1.Buffalo 2.Akron(t) 2.Toledo(t) And you're right, it's unlikely that Ohio will leave. The good 'ol four corners schools will be the very last to ditch the MAC(read: they will never leave). Actually, C-USA soccer is somewhat better than the MAC. Tulsa finished #7 in the country last season. Akron would obviously still dominate, but the annual conference championships that we have become accustomed to in the MAC wouldn't be a sure thing. I don't see that as a negative.

Do you know something about this situation that we don't? Or is this similar to your claim that Akron wouldn't get the #1 bid in the NCAA tourney last year? I'm going to second Z.I.P's sentiments and recognize the university for distancing itself from this website. For every poster who actually has some knowledge of what's really happening in zips sports there's fifty who don't. The real issue is that 30 of those 50 who know nothing keep posting as if they know something. Call me crazy, but I'm going to give the AD and Ianello a year or two before 'grading' them. They must be devastated, I know. I'm sure iCoach checks zipsnation daily for Can't State's current grading.

Have we extended an offer to him yet? If not, does anyone know why? I just can't understand how Toledo and Miami offer him before we do. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recr...ey-Smith-112584 http://scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-pro...1&srid=4795 http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p...2%2f975473.html http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p...2%2f976322.html

Ladies Football 101 - Thursday 6/10/10

No one is drawing comparisons between anything. Akron football sucks. Akron soccer is amazing. That's it. I'm not arguing the relevance of either sport. Regardless, I will see you guys this fall when Syracuse rolls into town. I will be yelling with Dreal like fervor regardless of the outcome... -

I think you're confusing the interests of an Athletic director with that of a fan. I fully realize that soccer is a small budget sport. But I could care less. As a zips fan I want to see a winner. Interesting. I wonder where all those alumni were last season? I certainly didn't see them at the football games. I also find it interesting that the AK-Rowdies were late to a football game last year because they were too preoccupied with watching the soccer team WIN. I also find it interesting that the AK-Rowdies dumped plans for a bus trip to watch Akron football. Instead, the took a bus trip to Buffalo to watch Akron soccer WIN. Of course football will bring more publicity--IF YOU WIN. Akron football has sucked. I'm not interested. And judging from our attendance, neither is most of Akron. -

I can't believe I'm the only one arguing with you guys. You sound like such neanderthals. You can't fix stupid, I suppose. -
Wait, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you one of the biggest opponents of hiring Hunter as the new AD? Something along the lines of, "we need outsiders with fresh ideas"?

But Akron MEN do. Go watch a bottom barrel MAC football team or go to a sold out Pouch and watch one of the country's premiere soccer squads. Your choice. I know where I will be. -
Oh, it's still all over the internet. It will take Can't State a long time to live that down. The best part is, when you start searching "sideline reporter fail" on google it will give "Can't state sideline reporter fail" as a suggestion. Epic.

I could see a Sun Belt merger if it meant dropping some of the dead weight from each conference.

If anyone knows any new admits to UA let them know about this: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/gr...wall&ref=ts There's only 416 members, but that's already 200 more than the class of 2013 facebook group. If that's any indication of how large this class will be then it looks like enrollment will crack 29,000 easily next year. When's the last time UA had over 30,000 students?
-
I can actually see where you are coming from. It could be interpreted as an admission of jealousy. Fortunately, that isn't the case. I mean it wholeheartedly. Everything about Can't sucks. Their students, president, campus, and most all, their football team. Your point is still taken. On the flip side, Can't's indifference has less to with superiority than it does pure apathy. Their most popular majors are fashion design and other artsy fartsy BS. The students at Can't State will never care about football. It just isn't in their culture. That's why there isn't a Can't-Rowdies. That's why there is no "flushnation.org", just some crappy site hosted(and paid for) by the NCAAbbs people. With the fan base we have already(a good number of people followed to watch the zips in the 2005 MC Bowl) then imagine how the culture will grow as the on campus community grows. On campus housing has doubled since 2000. In that time frame we have seen the emergence of devoted student(and alumni) support that's never been witnessed before in Akron. Someone tell me how the MAC basketball championship would have looked ten years ago? Akron wouldn't be there and you can bet that if they somehow made it to Saturday then you would see half the support you saw this winter. Most of the flush fans on NCAAbbs dismiss Akron as a commuter school with no residential culture. That just isn't true. Proenza has expressed plans to build room for as much as 4000-5000 students on campus. This would put Akron on par with just about anyone in the MAC. it would also make us the largest school in the MAC by a long shot(when you combine that with the non-residential pop, obviously). I'm excited for the future, and the rest of zips nation should be as well. Let's win some games, support the team and the 'marketing' will work itself out.

I would be surprised is Ted Curtis approves a Ken+ designed bridge. Actually, I would be pissed. -

Go to hell. That's a wierd response, ITZ. I'm not sure why you guys give eguins so much grief. I agree with him. I don't know how Ken+ is FBS, either.

6-6 9-4-10 SYRACUSE (W) 9-11-10 GARDNER-WEBB (W) 9-18-10 at Kentucky (L) 9-25-10 at Indiana (L) 10-2-10 NORTHERN ILLINOIS(L) 10-9-10 at Can't State (W) 10-16-10 at Ohio (W) 10-23-10 WESTERN MICHIGAN(L) 10-30-10 at Temple (L) 11-6-10 at Ball State (W) 11-17-10 MIAMI OH (Wed.) (W) 11-26-10 BUFFALO (Fri.) (L) Syracuse/Indiana are both toss ups. Kentucky will smoke us. Ohio/Buffalo are interchangeable. The rest of my in conference picks I feel confident about. I don't know how someone could complain about this schedule. This is what we should strive for; bottom rung BCS programs and at least one gimme. Perfect. Can't complain about the MAC slate, either. If this team deserves a bowl appearance, this schedule will give them ample opportunities.

+100000 All the gimmicks in the world can't make up for a crappy team. I disagree with placing the blame on alumni. Groups like the AK-Rowdies were non-existent as recently as 5 years ago. UA's only real hope at having a strong alumni following is to build more dorms and to be patient. On campus students are more likely to be die-hard fans, especially if UA is winning while they are on campus. In the mean time...win. UA is going to have to rely on Joe Akron to build this fan base. There will always be around 1,000-2,000 students who will come to games. There will always be 1,000-5,000 hardcore alumni. If we want 20,000 plus on hand there needs to be some reason for Joe Akron to come out. I don't think gimmicks will do that. The best marketing is winning. If it's the 2013 season and the zips have gone to three straight bowls, Joe Akron will come out to watch. If it's 2013 and the zips have even come close to sniffing top 25 once or twice then Joe Akron's presence will be even stronger. If it's 2013 and Akron has had one winning season in the past three years....

I was with them until they starting claiming that the government planned the 911 attacks. If you ignore the conspiracy theory side of it, it's extremely informative. To simply ignore because 'scholars' told you so makes you equivalent to someone without a high school education.

The mentality over there has changed over the years. Believe it or not, they actually sell out that stadium. Big 10 saw an opportunity to capture the NY market and took it. So if this is true, where does it leave Akron? Or the MAC for that matter? I don't see any huge changes coming, but I would like to see some of the dead weight(cough, EMU) drop to FCS...
