  1. im surprised you can stream period. Depends on what network youre on. I know UA's wireless "rootown" essentially blocks pandora from streaming
  2. GOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! Darren Mattocks assisted by Nagbe
  3. Serious post uses comic sans - Its not very effective!
  4. Maybe it's enough to put the ribbon all around the Info. or finish Coleman Commons
  5. I cannot stress how much I agree with this statement. Generic names are great and all, but Id much prefer a name that has a history and a reason for being the team's name rather than a name chosen purely on "fierce and menacing" reasons.
  6. I wouldnt say that. We've come to expect a certain level of excellence and success from our soccer team that a loss is a disappointment. It doesn't mean we expect them to be perfect, but we expect them to be damn near close to it. Still, I wouldn't read much into this loss. I want to say that this was just a fine-tuning match that Coach Porter used to try a few things when the consequences weren't as large. Id also suspect he put in some of the younger guys to get them some playing time, but can anyone confirm this? Just a thought.
  7. Please tell me that ZNO isn't getting soft... Its the ROWDIES' job to give the opponent hell while on our turf (and occasionally when we take our talents to their turf), regardless of their former affiliations. Its all part of what makes playing the Zips a daunting task. Everyone knows it, and I am sure they knew it when they saw they were coming here to play us because they were on the good end of the ROWDIES' taunts.
  8. To those who think this is a terrible idea because it doesn't put butts in the seats... You need to expose our product (the team) to a larger audience before they will WANT to come to the game, especially during those colder games. STO provides a channel (literally) for NEOhio to view Zips futbol and football. Futbol will undoubtedly get people to come out since they team is good, but football NEEDs to do well before people will get interested. Win some games, get some highlights on ESPN, get lots of local media coverage and the general public will slowly catch on to whats going on here. Like it or not, but you have to do these kinds of deals to get attendance up!
  9. #8, tho by extension of #4: Getting us the much-desired Akron soccer jerseys
  10. Ive been in EJ twice in the 3 years Ive been there. I have had absolutely no desire to see anything there. What musicians they DO bring in are has-beens from 3 years ago, no names, or genres a very small percentage of the student body would be willing to see. What EJ needs to focus on is bringing in talents in other areas aside from plays and these lame "concerts". EJ is the WRONG venue for concerts. I don't know about you guys, but I like to stand during my concerts, not sit. Love it or hate it, EJ isn't a place condusive to those events. Concerts need to be held in the JAR if they want any chance of bringing in good names and getting students to come. There's one thing that EJ could do that would bring in good crowds: COMEDIANS. Students love them as do the general public.
  11. My highly uneducated and completely non-expert opinion is that they'll have the stands generally completed by the end of the week. It looks like the building under the stands is structurally complete, leaving only the stands, press box, team benches, and all the final cleanup and aesthetics. As we all saw with the Info, the bleachers won't take very long at all to complete. However, the pressbox will probably run them another week or so to get it assembled and all associated wiring installed. My educated guess is that the pressbox for the soccer stadium will be very reminiscent of the one on the softball field given the similarities between the two stands. Id be willing to bet that most of everything will be completed, aside from generally cleaning up the place with landscaping and minor details inside the locker rooms, by the end of next week.
  12. They should make it a sports bar type campus restaurant for students and the general public. Keep it open 365 as a hub for Akron athletics. They already have a license for alcohol. THIS.
  13. Thats it... Im tired of it. Clevelanders are absolutely NOT entitled to LeBron's loyalty, and as such cannot demand any respect from him. Akronites, on the other hand, have a right to ask loyalty from LeBron. I hate the argument, but in this case, Akron is NOT Cleveland, and vice versa. It should be mentioned I am one of those who don't care that LeBron left (Im glad he did after that fiasco), but lost a lot of respect for him after the way he left. Glad to see LeBron has a tiny sliver of good in him, even if we have to wonder if he doesn't whole-heartedly mean it all the time.
  14. FSN was... meh... But STO is a much better network for regional exposure. It'll get a lot more local people watching our games especially since STO is available on pretty much all cable and dish packages in this area
  15. Bleachers are the least of my worries... As long as they are expandable (which they clearly seem to be), Im good with it. The priority list of things they needed to address with the soccer stadium: 1) Soccer pitch/drainage 2) Lighting 3) Increased bleacher seating 4) Indoor Plumbing Restrooms As far as I am concerned, all the issue listed above have been fully addressed.... 1) The drainage system should be able to handle a hurricane's worth of water 2) The lighting is now tv-spec, won't be leaning over, and won't have darkspots 3) there's a lot more bleacher seating, especially behind the goals where the AK-rowdies can make more noise 4) no more portable toilets. Im happy with it.
  16. Anyone else catch the bit about the Akron radio broadcaster that got a picture of lebron flippin the bird at him? I swear this LeBaccle is the best form of reality TV ever conceived.
  17. Found this while working on a project here at work. I thought you'd all enjoy it. Im pretty sure this tops my list of the most impressive goal celebrations:
  18. Dang it! I thought it would have looked nicer with them gone i think this is more or less an end result of funds. As far as I am aware, the tennis courts are still due to be removed as part of the Coleman Commons project. Considering their current condition, I wouldn't expect it to be much longer before they get the axe.
  19. Funny story about starbucks... Supposedly they are opening one in the Exchange Street Dorms next door to DQ. That brings the total to 3 starbucks locations within the confines of the UA campus (Polsky, Student Union, and now Exchange). Id love to see a Chipotle open near campus, but I don't see that happening since there's 2 within easy driving distance of campus. A Chick-fil-A, however, would be a good addition
  20. obvious troll is obvious... pretty sure that place was the most shady-looking business on exchange this side of rt 8 (excluding the plasma center - thats a given)
  21. I noticed that they were tearing down the CD/Game exchange building on exchange across the street from the stadium. Anyone have a clue whats going on there? That place looked like crap anyways, so its probably a good thing its being torn out.
  22. When lebron didn't sign a maximum-length contract a few years back, it really made me wonder what he was up to. If he was as committed to Cleveland if he was telling everyone he was, he would have signed a long-term deal to give him the best chance to live up to the word. Ill admit it, before this decision I thought LeBron was a man of his word. What we all learned is the painful truth of the immaturity of an athlete surrounded by peers of the same upbringing, not people who could provide the advice and support needed during a decision like he had. He let a lot more people down than just Cleveland by making a mockery of the Cavs and I hope one day he realizes what he did. He can come back to Akron all he wants, but it will be VERY difficult to ease the anger many have towards him. I can only imagine what will happen when the Heat play the Cavs at home.... let's hope the concession stands aren't selling beer in any kind of bottles.
